This could very possibly be the BEST meat I have EVER bought! We bought the group-on first. We went in and they told us this side was the group-on case. I thought "yea the group-on side." I took home two bone in Rib eyes. UNBELIEVABLY GOOD! Two weeks later I was still thinking about them. So I invite friends over. I go and purchase a 3" thick center cut Porterhouse. ($89.00). SEAR, ROAST, GRILL, REST. I mean my buddy and I literally jumped up and down as we sliced off pieces before plating. "DUDE!!!!!!!" We kept saying "DUDE!!!!!!!!" No butter just salt and pepper. Popped in on a whim. The staff was beyond helpful. While the prices are a little bit more than say, Fry's, the meat is WAY better. Obvious that they take pride in what they do there. The selection of meat is more than I expected. The bacon was awesome- still waiting to try the brats. Thanks to Yelp I discover great spots like Hobe Meats! I've been reading about Hobe meats for awhile and I finally had the chance to visit when in the area. This is your no-frills butcher shop. It's small shop with a long glass case filled with every type of meat cut imaginable. They also sell frozen meats and cheese. I also saw that they do a Saturday BBQ and they also make deli sandwiches. During my visit, I picked up some Italian sausage and a couple cheddar jalapeno sausages. Both were delicious, but the cheddar jalapeno ones were amazing! They were filled with cheese and had the perfect kick to it thanks to the jalapeno. I'm so happy I found Hobe Meats and will definitely be back for visits in the future. read more

I had never heard of Hobe Meats before reading about them in a Deal Chicken ad. Although a little leary of a place I hade never heard of, I decided to give them a try. It was the best online decision I had ever made. The gentlemen at the counter were very courteous and helpful. The meat was very fresh, not like what you find in your local supermarket. I tried meats that ranged from various cuts of beef and pork and WOW it is DELICIOUS and FRESH! A real butcher shop in Phoenix. I will only be purchasing my meats from Hobe Meats from now on. read more

I've always been very happy with Hobe in the past, that's why I'm at least giving them two stars as opposed to one. The quality of their meat was always my favorite and the customer service, excellent. However, the last several times the norm has been very much the opposite of what I'm used to. I've seen very different faces in there, that just aren't very friendly, kind, or helpful. The staff looks like they don't want to be there. They barely greet you and aren't very friendly at all. Not to mention I had to walk one of the guys through the transaction reminding home not to forget my coupon that was emailed or the percentage for paying cash. Then noticing once I got home he still over charged me $8. Obviously, it wasn't enough for me to drive back as I live quite far, I just wished he would have paid attention a little better and at least had some sort of personality. I'm not writing this review just because of a $8 loss. The week before that, I purchased 5 chicken breasts and put them in the fridge. The next day I opened my fridge to get the chicken to package individually and freeze and a horrible odor was coming from it. As I unwrapped the chicken it became stronger and I quickly realized it was the chicken and it was bad. Kinda quick for that to happen, as I had just bought it the day before. Very disappointing! Then a week before that, I purchased our favorite hanger steak and the quality of it was so terrible. We cooked it as we always do. We were super bummed! I'm hoping Hobe can get it together, otherwise I'm going to have to start purchasing my meat from elsewhere :( read more

Yesterday a few of us went to try out the new deli at Hobe Meats!! I'm not exaggerating when I say that the Dreamy Draw Deli Sandwich (smoked brisket in a soft roll with a mild horseradish sauce and carmelized onions)was spectacular! The others in my party had different sandwiches and said the same thing!! We all tried a cup of the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, silky broth with puffy rice, chicken, sausage and just the right spice!! Everything is made from scratch by Tracy including the smoked meats, side dishes and salad dressings!! Seriously, you have to take the time to stop by!! Let's give her our support!! read more

Big disappointment. Here's why. First of all I first found out about this place when I moved into the area. I enjoy cooking tremendously and definitely appreciate ingredients of great quality. I was so glad to know I can now shop conveniently at a butcher shop rather than a grocery store for meat. My first visit was two months ago when I first moved to the area, I came around mid afternoon just to check it out. I walked in and was impressed after initial survey of the products. I wanted to ask some questions however I couldn't get the worker's attention. All the workers carried on with their own conversation, while I was completely ignored. I don't particularly enjoy those shops where the greeting is too excessive, however I expect a simple "Hello" or "How can I help you" from any business. I stood there for a minute waiting to see what would happen. Nothing. I walked out the same way I walked in - as if I'm invisible. It's been two months since my unpleasant visit, I decided perhaps it was just that particular day. This time I walked in and was greeted after a few seconds in front of the counter. However each of my question was followed by a long awkward silence, her response is delayed for a good five seconds each. Meanwhile she carries on with her work. I end up walking out the same way I did last time. Did I stumbled upon a bad time again? Or was it this particular worker? I don't know and I really don't care to find out anymore. These two visits has concluded my hopes for a good butcher shop. I don't care how good their meats are based on other reviews, a great business should have both great quality of products and customer service. There is a Sprouts down the streets that I grew to like since I moved here, great products and friendly workers. read more

I went to Hobe because I wanted a flank steak that was larger than the usual pound and a half specimens found in the grocery store, and although I know how to do it myself, I wanted to save myself the work and have it butterflied by the butcher. One of the men behind the counter didn't know the meaning of the term - I should have taken the hint then. But somebody in the back said that he would do it. Since it was given to me all wrapped up, I couldn't see how the butcher had butchered that piece of beef. One third had been cut almost all the way through and was hanging by a tendon. The other two thirds hadn't been cut at all. I was forced to do that part of the process, plus find a way to patch up the severed piece. This was an expensive pain-in-the-flank. read more

We had a special Julia Child Dinner Party and called Hobe Meats since we purchased specialty meats around Christmas time from them. Inquired if they had rump roast meat for Boeuf Bourguignon recipe. They had it and it was corn-fed beef from Nebraska. Price was great, cheaper than AJ's. The meat was perfect, the dinner was fantastic! Dinner party for 10 people, everybody loved it. Thanks Hobe Meats. I did have to drive into Phoenix from North Phx. but location was close to the 51. Highly recommend their quality food and very kind and helpful service. I visited this shop on a Saturday about 11:15 AM, big mistake! The shop borders a restaurant and another shop, they only have 2 designated parking spots and its VERY tight!! Your doors will be dinged so park away from building. They had 2 tables to eat lunch on the side walk in front of the 2 parking spots and VERY cramped! Safety wise, this is an accident waiting to happen, no barriers if the person parking guns the gas instead of the brakes, the people sitting at the tables will be crushed. The shop was busy, very confusing and VERY cramped. The picture is deceiving, its very cramped. I ordered 4 New York strips and a boneless rump roast, $83.00 After being stressed out from parking and ordering the items I do have to say the steaks were VERY, VERY good! Great taste and very tender, in fact these could have been the best steaks I ever purchased in Arizona. I cooked the roast for taco and burrito meat, awesome flavor. I will go back, during a weekday mid morning or afternoon. I will remind the owner again about the safety issue out front and to ask for additional parking spots. BTW, many people were buying meats with the groupon coupons, all were confused about the process and to be honest, it seems like a rip off but I don't use coupons and I could be wrong. read more

we were excited to shop at Hobe Meats/Deli based on reviews, but were very disappointed that the Deli had no ham, no proscuitto and the Boar's Head product we chose from the cooler was out of date. We bought deviled eggs however our aunt said they were not tasty--needed a bit of mustard; the fresh meats we purchased have yet to be evaluated but we found it odd that NONE of the staff were wearing masks. Why? So, unless the meat is super good, we will not be shopping here again. Very sad. read more

We love Hobe meats. For awhile we were buying most of our meat there and recently just got out of the habit since we got busy with life, but I plan to start again. We were making it a family tradition to hit up Hobe on Saturday when they had their BBQ as well. For $5 you can get fun little lunch after you stock up on meat for the week. They are helpful in suggesting new cuts of meat to try and give you suggestions on how to prepare them. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they often have groupons so you can save $ there too. read more

This is based on the deli side. Not much to say - microwaved beef brisket with cold BBQ sauce. Meat was so fatty and tough (because of microwave), it was not edible. I felt like I needed a shower because of the greasy feel. If you want the butcher side, have at it. If you are there for the deli side, stay away. read more

This is a nice meat shop located in a strip mall. They serve a BBQ on Saturday, although I've never tried in, but it did smell great. The meat selection is not that of a true butcher, since they have it shipped in from a company in Omaha, but it is nice cuts of meat. If you are looking to entertain and impress your friends, then grab a cut of meat from here. If you are looking for everyday meat, this probably isn't going to be the most bang for your buck. read more

I bought a Living Social coupon and I was limited to the prime meats, which I did not see, but that may be my fault. The prices seemed high being I received $60 in product which included two pounds of Tri-Tip, one pound Chorizo and two 1 lb T-Bones. I was happy with that. I cooked the Tri-Tip it was good and tender we enjoyed our meal. Three nights later (no kids) we wanted the T-bones, but they stink. We are afraid to cook them for fear of getting sick. I am hoping for replacements but apparently you need to buy and eat that day. read more

Since I work a 1/2 a mile from Hobe I decided to purchase a recent Groupon for some prime meats. I grew up not far from here but never had been inside. Boy am I glad I went in today!!! I decided to try a deli sandwich and the customer service was AMAZING. I think the gentleman's name was Josh who made my sandwich. I had the Dreamy Draw and it was OUTSTANDING! Then after lunch I went to the butcher side and picked some prime steaks to grill this weekend. Again, the customer service was AWESOME! I want to say his name was Joe who helped me get my steaks, ground meat and some bacon. I cannot wait to go back again for another sandwich and some more steaks. Hobe Meats is great on so many levels! The staff and owner are the best! They truly care about their customers! Yes, their steaks are AMAZING, they are a special treat for us. HOBE also makes all of my dog food. I used to make it myself until I realized they actually sold dog food, since I am a little bit more picky and my dogs are a lot more spoiled, I emailed and asked if I could have a certain type of dog food made. That was almost two years ago, and they never let me down even if I have a few odd requests. Bret is always more than helpful. I am not sure why it has taken me so long to write a review, but I am glad I did as I took the time to read all of the other fabulous reviews and realized I need to try their ribs this weekend. We have lived in Arizona for more than 35 years and although we relocated to Prescott 5 years ago, we still make our weekly pilgrimage to pick up the best meats in town! A groupon brought us in to purchase a rib roast and a prime NY strip steak. The rib roast was flavorful, but lacked tenderness. Overall, it was well received. The steak however was quite tough and nowhere near "prime". For these prices, I expected much more. read more

I visited Hobe Meats for the first time on 11/13/15. I bought 5 lbs of beef chuck and some bacon. The meats were excellent and my Wife won a chili cook off with their chuck. The problem with this visit and the reason for two stars is poor service from the man behind the counter. If I ask for 5 lbs, don't put 6 lbs on the scale and ask me if thats ok. If I pick out the freshest cuts, dont try to slip in the ugly brown cut from a previous day. Next was the bacon, again greatly over weighed from what I asked for. The problem that upset me the most was the condescending attitude I got in response to asking for correct weights. I was basically told that because I am not a butcher that I shouldnt be so picky and that i was making the purchase harder than it needed to be. Again, the meats I bought were great, but If service matters go elsewhere. read more
