This is a relatively new Hobby Lobby, you can tell by the tiles being in pristine order and brightness! No random aged tiles here, no sir! The place looks absolutely massive on the inside. With the size so big, I noticed they got more themed decor in the place, along with actual toys, not just hobby toys. Stuff like Nerf guns, and Gundam build kits. They also embraced the gamer aesthetic, with whole aisles of nerdy statements and quippy signs that are all very much Hobby Lobby themed. Place is pretty well stocked for a lot of things.

Just had a few returns, including two doll stands that I bought the wrong size (needed smaller). Unfortunately the two receipts I had "did not match" the items, so I asked the (rather snippy) cashier woman if I could just get a store credit, since I was buying more items (which were laid out on the counter in front of her). She refused. I said, "Okay, I'll just take these home and try to find the receipt for them," and she didn't disagree. Apparently that's what she wanted me to do. After I get home, I went through all my Hobby Lobby receipts but couldn't find one that had two "Crafts" department purchases on it. (Since Hobby Lobby refuses to use barcodes.....) However, then I spotted the RETURN POLICY printed on the receipts...which says clearly: "You may exchange merchandise or be issued a merchandise credit based on the lowest selling price in the last 60 days." IT WAS RIGHT THERE! Yet this woman refused to give me a store credit / credit towards the merchandise I was buying, and instead agreed that I needed to go home, look for the receipt, and then drive BACK to the store -- wasting gas and time -- instead of just giving me the credit I could've had at the time. I really hate having to shop at Hobby Lobby. I can't stand all the sappy Christian crap (sorry, but I was raised Christian and now know the truth about that religion), and yes, I know, it's a "Christian-run business," but they have the kinds of yarn I need for my projects, so I put up with it. I should not, however, have to put up with apathetic cashiers working at the "Returns and Exchanges" register who seem to be unfamiliar with the store's returns and exchanges policies.

Linda on the framing team makes this easy even for those of us who don't know what we are doing.

I hadn't…read moreheard of the Jackalope Arts festival, which apparently appears every year just up the street from me in Olde Arvada. We went out on this sunny and warm October day, glad to enjoy some time outdoors in the sun. We were greeted, as well, with an enjoyable stroll through local venue booths sporting everything from beeswax products to locally mixed spices to jewelry made from local stones (think petrified wood and Marble's marble, among many others). I was drawn to the designs at a T-shirt shop, and when I couldn't find my size in the design I wanted, they assured me that I could email them and they would make it for me and send it along to my home. The jewelry maker at Waystone (mywaystone.com) promised that if I could bring her a piece of petrified wood that I had discovered in my backyard, she would make it into something special to display in my home. While she accepts items through mail, since she is just down I-70 just east of Denver, I mean to bring it right to her. I was excited to visit this arts fair, and came away with some nice items, along with the cards of some artisans to whom I will reach out for some custom items. What a great way to spend a glorious fall day outside!

When I got home I realized that the frame was cracked, chipped, and wasn't even in any original packaging (found this out once I went to a different location to return it). The inside sheet with the sizing was all crumpled up like it had been returned before. Then I needed to order a mat for the frame. This is probably the most irritating thing I've ever had to do. Whoever works in framing is so slow, only talked in questions, has no clue what she is doing, and talks rudely. I'm pretty dumfounded that someone like that can even work there. When I ordered the mat it was as if she had no clue how to do anything or even know what mats they had. "I think we have these, I think it's this price" etc. It took a whopping 30-45 minutes just for her to make this order and give me the receipt. Should have taken not even 5 minutes because I knew what I wanted. When I went to pick up the mat, she couldn't find it, proceeded to ask me "is this one the right one?", like how am I supposed to know. For her to just say "well I think this might be it so here you go". When opening the order herself, she asked me "Can't you help!" all snarky, backhanded, and rude. Like what do you mean, this is your job, and how do you think you can talk to a customer like that? Get home to find out it is either the incorrect order or made incorrectly. It's for a 24 x 36 inch frame and is literally cut larger than that. I repeatedly said it needed to be 24 x 36 inches, for it be cut 1/4 to 1/2 inch larger on each side. How hard is it to cut 2 feet by 3 feet? How hard is it to label an order with a name or even just an order number? I then had to call 5 times just to be connected to framing because they kept denying the transfers. At least they are remaking it, crossing my fingers I'll actually get what I ordered. Will definitely NEVER be going back to this location. I debated on not even trying to go there again for the remake and going to a different location, so we'll see how this continues. Extremely disappointed.

I convinced my creatively minded boyfriend into a Monday afternoon at the paint studio, and he, too, was sold on its awesomeness. Now, had I only realized how far away this place was, perhaps I wouldn't have purchased it. It is *quite* out of the way ... from everything. You'll likely be greeted by Sugar, the shop's bark-busy dog, and about six tables set up with plants and bottles of water for brush and sponge cleaning. The shop's owner was awkward, but friendly and gave us the 411 on the shop. You pick your piece (the price is on the bottom) and then the shop owner sets you up with your preferred paint colors, and you're on your way. I will say that I think the items are overpriced and the studio price was different than that advertised on the website. I chose a goblet that was mean to double as a Kiddush Cup (it's a Jewish thing), and the boyfriend chose what I would call a Cute Monster, and he would call a Scary Monster. We ended up arriving around noon, leaving around 1:30, and then coming back from 3:30 until closing at 6 p.m. Let's just say the boyfriend was meticulous. Luckily, the items were being fired on Thursday, so I was able to pick them up on the following Friday. After the long drive out, I picked them up and they were most excellent. I attribute this to our mad skills. Overall? There are closer places to the city, cheaper places, and places without a dog that barks at everything (which, when you're delicately painting, can be pretty distracting and ruinous to your project). Also? It was freezing in the studio, so bring a jacket or sweater or parka.

The previous owner was going to close down the shop so the new owner bought it from him. It seems that the new owner is new to running a business, but the place had a variety of pottery choices. I've been in 3 times to paint art since the spring and each time there is something different. If you live in West Lakewood or Golden then PYOA is in a good location for you. There are plenty of paint colors, and brushes. There are large glasses of water for cleaning your brush, and several choices for "add-ons" which can be fun. There are about 6 tables in the large room, but every time I've been in it hasn't been busy. I also teach down the street and brought in a group of teenagers over the summer. They had a good time too!
