I visited the Hobby Lobby Store in Normal Illinois and purchased a few things for spring and hit the clearance aisle too. As I waited in line behind several people, an employee walked up glanced at the line and went over and opened another register. I went over and she admired my concert t-shirt and we talked about music while she quickly and efficiently wrapped my purchases. I am living for this store! Love the fact that this is much like a Michaels Crafts, but with so much more options. It is really taking me aback as I stroll through the aisles and just imagine the things I can now do to decorate and create some more fun filled rooms at home with. I came for a conference and got suckered into coming in (all alone) and wow I stood more than 4 hours. I totally was lost in space because everything is so interesting. This spot is really not super expansive and lets you create the most beautiful venues in your home with just a little bit of creativity. Nice vintage (looking) items to make your decor a hit. Look through national magazines for ideas then come here to re create it. Seriously you have to see how much of a hit this place is. I am really sure that if you come in you will be able to find something useful to bring to your estethic and everyone will truly believe you spent a ton of money on just a few items. read more

Fantastic and friendly employees, clean store, good atmosphere, and incredible products!

I've been here a couple times before my last visit, and I always spends hours in this store. I visted last week for Christmas shopping! I fell in love and bought way too much. I saw something on the very top shelf that I loved, but didn't want to bother anyone to get it done. I kept shopping but that item kept popping back into my head. I found someone who was putting more things up on a shelf nearby. I asked if he could get someone to help me, and he said he would do it. I showed him where it was and he happily got it done! Absolutely LOVE this store! Tons of craft creations in anything you can imagine. I could stay in here for hours putting all these great bargin craft ideas together. There is always a 50% off sale on something. I go in planning to get 1-2 items and always come out with a dozen. They also send you a 40% one item coupon via email. How can you lose. First to review Hobby Lobby? How can I pass that up? Hobby Lobby is located in the Shoppes at College Hills near Von Maur. From the outside, Hobby Lobby looks like a cardboard box. Ironic since they're called the "Hobby Lobby Creative Center." Once inside, you'll see that they really do have a lot to offer though. Not just a craft store, you'll also find some furniture, home decorations, picture frames, etc. It often looks closed but it's probably not, unless you go on a Sunday. It's closed all day on the Sabbath. read more

This location is a pretty solid Hobby Lobby. I always get into trouble when I come here because I buy so much. I always come with a 40% coupon that I find on their website, but I'm rarely able to use it because typically the store is marked 50% off, so pretty good deals throughout. It can get pretty busy here around Christmas time but the store is so large that I never run into any issues with the crowds. Also, the employees here are overall pretty friendly. read more

I will start by saying that the store itself has plenty to offer and the reason why I found myself there today. I was taking my time looking for what I needed and moving back and forth trying to find exact items for a project. Apparently I came off as suspicious, as an employee came over to ask if I needed help and then continued to follow me all throughout the store and to the check out. As I began to check out, the woman rudely told me to empty my pockets. I quickly complied turning them inside out, took off my sweatshirt and handed it to her for her own inspection. Looking defeated, she said "Oh, ok" and handed it back to me -- not a thank you, not an apology. There are plenty of other craft stores on almost every corner in the immediate area that I will be going to in the future -- where I can take my time to find what I need without being so rudely treated. read more

I've been to this location about 10 times since I've moved to the area. Just about every time I'm disappointed in their customer service. Their checkouts are horrible. Sometimes it is the actual cashier, but I blame it more on their lack of training. I used to be a cashier in college, so I understand that their attitude and ability is most affected by management attitude and ability. I usually go during my lunch hour to pick up a couple things and am always faced with a ridiculously long and slow line. No one is ever in a hurry or seems to know an answer to a question. Case in point today: Picture this. One trainee struggling through basic transactions on the only open register. His "supervising" employee blankly staring at the line getting longer and not helping him whatsoever. Five minutes pass before a very nonchalant call is made for another cashier. Five more minutes pass. At least 10 people in line now. No additional cashier has showed up. Employee still staring at the people in line. Second manager that passes finally recognizes that there may be a problem, but no one is in any hurry to correct. Missing cashier eventually shows up and the staring employee then decides she can start helping check out people. Thanks for wasting 15 minutes of my life, and more importantly my lunch break. Hey Management: At the very least, your employees should understand that if people need to be checked out, and they are able to check people out, then they should be checking people out. It shouldn't take 10 minutes and 10 people waiting in line before another cashier opens up, especially when one is standing at a register and staring at the line getting longer. Or better yet, you as a manager could help resolve the situation instead of continuing on your perimeter patrols and talking into that cute little walkie-talkie. read more

Hobby Lobby serves up a good selection of art and craft supplies with a big helping of Evangelical Christianity. This is not the best place to find top notch art supplies for professionals--much of their inventory is aimed at the home hobbyist, and their staff doesn't always know what "acid-free" means. They also proselytize prominently: lots of Jesus-y merchandise and fundamentalist Christian paraphernalia at the check-out counter (shop elsewhere for your Hanukkah decorations...). But if you need fake flowers, glitter, glue guns, or "Bible Mints", look no further. Just don't bother visiting them on Sunday when they're closed. read more
