Hobby Lobby is a store for crafters. I had a poster that needed a frame. They did an amazing job bringing additional detail to it by matching the colors in the poster to the boarder. Hobby Lobby is a shady company that types in prices by hand (wtf?) and I always end up paying more! The cashiers cannot possibly know all the sale prices. So they take out there circular for every freaking item! After waiting for 20 minutes in line I overpaid $10! Not worth getting back in line to try to get my money back. I just stopped in at what used to be my "go to" for art and hobby supplies and found out they are no longer offering their "40% off one item" coupons. I just paid full price for everything I purchased. According to Jesse, the cashier, "we are no longer doing that". This is HUGE for me and many others, I am sure. Apparently, HB is ONLY honoring the percentage that are specifically on the items on their email blast. Well, dang if I KNEW I was going to need an item, like wedding favors (not!) I would certainly purchase them when they are on sale, but my artistic endeavors are not that organized and planned out. Looks like I will be returning to Michael's. Sad but true. read more

If I need an artificial flower, a basket, seasonal decorations, or supplies for my latest hobby, they have never failed to stock what I need. The challenging part is that I usually have to rearrange my schedule or plan ahead to go (rather than just drop in) because they are not open on Sundays which is the day that I have the most time to run errands for the week. read more

Utterly ridiculous! It's the first week of June and I am looking for summer, 4th of July, and pool party decor, but the whole store is full of nothing but fall, Thanksgiving, and legitimate Christmas decorations. We are more than 6 months away from Christmas!! I understand that retail is usually one season ahead, but capitalism is getting outrageous. I needed help in the fabric department and a girl named Leah was working. I needed vinyl cut in different sizes, though I only asked for the complete yardage I needed. Leah cut every piece to the size that I needed which made it much easier for me when I got home. She even marked the pieces so I would know which piece was which. Leah went above and beyond in customer service for me. I hope she is appreciated at work as much I appreciated her cutting the vinyl for me. If you need fabric cut ask for Leah. I was there today 6-10-19 and they are open and well stocked. I like this hobby lobby seems to always be well staffed for the most part. I've been at least a half dozen times and was always clean. Hoping whoever thought they were closed changes it as it a nice store to go to. There is a lot of construction on Ogden which is a pain but looks like all the businesses are still open. My first shopping experience was uneventful. I am not an arts or craft person by any stretch of the imagination but if you give me a theme or color scheme, I will search high and low for options. That said, I went in with no clue as to what I wanted absent colors. I found adorable serving plates, silver doilies (which I loved) and lots of other things I did not need but could not leave. The lines were long for a weekday afternoon so it seems many people frequent this location. That said, there's little chance of running in and running out, but the wait is pretty tolerable. Very reasonable prices, huge selection and good location. A little better than Michaels IMHO. read more

December 19, 2020: I find myself in Hobby Lobby (Woodward) and was there in search for two black pull over hoodies. 1 Large Black (Youth) and 1 S Black (adult). Woodward had the youth size and didn't have the adult. So I asked upon check out how I can go about checking up see if another Hobby Lobby had the size I needed. They said to call the store. Okay. No problem. I called the Downers Grove location. I called: "Hello. Good afternoon. I am currently at Hobby Lobby (Woodward) wanting to know if you have an item in stock." They responded "Let me transfer you". They transferred me and someone else answered "This is ___ at Linens." I tell her what I need and she said "let me transfer your call". I was on the phone for 25 minutes! 25 minutes of waiting. I drove there being on the phone waiting and went in bought the sweater and drove back home while they had me on hold still. Crazy! I ended up just hanging up. As far as the store itself and not the employees...it is pretty stocked and tidy. read more

Absolutely the worst customer service. I patiently waited in the one line that was open for 10 minutes. A new register opened up and the girl, Emily?, announced that she would take someone at the register. Before I could jump over to her, a lady came from no where and cut me off. She hadn't waited one second in line. I mentioned to Emily? that the proper customer service procedure should be to take the next in line since people had been waiting a long time. Young Emily squealed that she did ask for the next in line. She clearly did not! She acted like a child and started arguing. I just let her be and she rung up my item that ended up being full price but I had picked it up from a section that was marked 50% off. I asked for a manager and Karen walked over. I explained the situation and she just stared at me. I asked for a response and she said that they weren't responsible for items placed in the wrong area. And she could care less about Emily's previous response to me. Terrible customer service! Terrible management. She literally looked at me and didn't even try to sort out any issues. She let Emily keep lying and condoned her childish behavior. It was crazy weird! read more

I absolutely love Hobby Lobby because of the wonderful items and vast selection that's offered. However the people that work their mid-day to early afternoon are not customer service focused. I went the check out line and every register had a closed sign on it with four middle aged female employees standing around. What do I do now? Maybe it's nap time?? I had the feeling like I was surrounded by Zombies. My advice is either try going in there at a different time of the day and if you want to see Zombies I recommend going to the movies. I like the selection and prices at Hobby Lobby, though I have to say most items are overpriced to begin with, so their "sales" aren't exactly sales. The main issue I have with Hobby Lobby is the awful customer service. The lines are ALWAYS awful, no one ever is able to help you, and I can only imagine that Hobby Lobby must pay and treat their employees like total crap. I find it funny because they are so over the top about being a "Christian" store, and yet everyone there is unhappy. Today I stood in line forever, and being 9 months pregnant did not make me any the less grumpy. By the time I got in line, their cashier made me hunt through my bags for ten cents because she didn't want to give me change for a dollar. I was so uncomfortable and overloaded, but she didn't care AT ALL. Moreover, the employees never get out of your way. It's like they are annoyed you are even there at all. I was so excited to be near a hobby lobby having moved here from California where we didn't have one. But, every time I've been here, I'm more and more disappointed by the workers. No one wants to be helpful and act as if you should know where everything is...vaguely pointing to sections and muttering "it's in the art section". They act as if you're taking up their previous time if you stop them to ask a question. So disappointing. read more

I love this store for cute, inexpensive home decorative items. They have a lot of items that you would find at some expensive accessories store. I believe they are a Christian run company so they are closed on Sunday. Which I think is pure suicide for their business. it seems like that is the day that I always find myself wanting to go there, probably along with everyone else! They have the old fashioned registers that they have to key everything in separately, which takes forever!! I waited in line for 15 minutes last time to return something to only be told that they only did returns at the other register. I almost flipped! It would have been nice if that was marked! I had to go wait for another 10 minutes at the other register since I had to now go to the back of the long line! They need to get into this century and open on Sunday. The first time I walked into Hobby Lobby, I was in love. I'm a HUGE crafter at heart, and this place has everything I need at fantastic prices! Their scrapbooking section is AMAZING, and if you keep your eyes open for deals, you can stock up on all the scrapbooking essentials at a great price, like I did! So, why 2 stars? Probably the reason everyone else has given them low ratings.... Their customer service is POOR! I can't even tell you how many "hobby lobby runs" I've made in the past 6 months, and how very few words any of their employees have ever said to me. Probably could count them on 1 hand. Their hours are a HUGE drag (they close at 8), so I always have to go in the morning before work, which tends to be a "busier" time. I say "busier" because it takes at LEAST 15 minutes to get checked out... Since they aren't open on Sundays, I always have to plan accordingly when I have a crafting project. It's just one of those places where I feel like, I, the customer, have to work with them... No cashier has ever said "thank you" after they rang me up, which wouldn't bother me so much if they weren't so cold to begin with. Their inconvenient hours are irritating for a busy person like myself. And finally, when you bring your items up for check-out, you have to really weigh your options as to which line to enter, because you might get stuck behind someone who's returning 20 items, costing you 30 minutes of your morning. An update: Most of my review below still stands. However, I must give kudos to one employee, Dee Dee, for wonderful follow-up. I'd ordered an item that was out of stock for several weeks. She was excellent in following up on my order, and called several times to advise me on its status. It eventually arrived, and she ensured I received me item. Good job, Dee Dee! Wish everyone at Hobby Lobby were like you! You are about to enter another dimension: You walk in the door, and see signs posted that advise that Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays to give their employees time for relaxation and "worship." The place is loaded with all kinds of fun things at great prices. Okay, this is somewhat pleasant, if don't mind listening to the smarmy new-age versions of hymns playing in the background. Then, you notice: Nobody works here! There is no service to be had at all! I dunno. Maybe they're all out worshiping. You see huge lines at the cash register stations, and out of about five stations, only one is open. And that's the lane that also accepts returns, so you invariably have someone returning a $1.49 item, arguing with the lone sales clerk. You want to have some fabric cut. You ring the antiquated "ring for service" push-button bell. Nobody hears you. You ring again, and again. You feel you have entered the Twilight Zone. You walk away in frustration. You look for something in the many ill-organized aisles. All you see are other shoppers. Employees? Play that Twilight Zone music again. When I first got engaged, I was told, "Michael's will be your best friend!" I thought to myself..."I'm not DIY-ing much, why would I need to frequent a craft store?" Well, the advice giver was right and wrong: I didn't visit Michael's, but I could have lived at Hobby Lobby. I'm lucky enough that I live several minutes and also work several minutes from an HL. However, I went out of my way to visit the one closer to my work more frequently because its staff, merchandise, and overall layout was just better - and that folks, would be Westmont! When I would shop during my wedding planning, I found things I didn't even need. Our wedding was not only enhanced, but costs were decreased because I did stuff myself that I didn't even think would be feasible. From cocktail hour centerpieces to ceremony programs to bridesmaid gifts, HL always had something in stock for me. Fast forward two years, and I'm still visiting! Some of their decor has turned a bit too "rustic/chic" for me, and buyer beware: you're getting what you pay for, people. HL is not the place to buy a family heirloom. If you're complaining about quality, then it's ridiculous that you thought it would last in the first place. This is a great spot for seasonal, low-cost items. read more

Bad customer service....few employees....messy store....blahblahblah The reason I come back, even with the same complaints as my fellow yelpers are the prices. The main items I buy at Hobby Lobby are scrap booking supplies. The stickers and embellishments are unbeatably priced! Along with stamps and ink pads. I am able to put up with the little headaches at this store to save some bucks on each item Im purchasing. As for the hours, I respect that they give their employees Sundays off and close the store. They must be doing something right because each time Ive visited the store is packed. read more

The pros: Lots of arts and crafts products, lots of sales The cons: I honestly can't think of the last time I was there and interacted with a kind or positive employee. The employees that check out customers at the end are gruff and crabby. This is sadly the case almost every time. They act annoyed and are just overall very curt. It's a bummer, because I really do love the location and the products. I think I will do as much shopping on Amazon going forward as I can and only go to Hobby Lobby when I need materials the same day. :( read more

I can't even tell you how often I went to this store. My sister loves it and even worked there briefly as a teenager, and I would go there for any crafting need, be it scrapbooking, knitting, fabric, sketching, or whatever. The selection really is great and very rarely do I ever have to seek elsewhere for anything, especially since there are almost always sales and 40% coupons. It wasn't until last week that shit finally hit the fan. I had purchased a dress form (their last one at the time) at the store a while back, and when I got home, the thing was wobbly and unstable. I went back to the store at a later date just to pick up some random things and noticed they had 3 more in stock. I asked the cashier if I'd have any problems exchanging my defective one for a new one, even if I didn't have my receipt. She thanked me for checking and said that no, I shouldn't have a problem as long as they still have the same item in store. I returned the next day with the wobbly dress form and asked to exchange it, only to have the manager (hiding behind the cashier's wall, with only her head and folded arms just above it, like a coward) refuse to take it back because "the furniture guy that puts them together affirms that none of the dress forms were broken when assembled, so it was not broken at time of sale." I LIVE FIVE MINUTES AWAY. Are they saying it's not possible that there may have been a defective piece loose inside the form that could have come loose simply via transportation? Or . . . that I'm a liar? It's not like I took the thing and bashed it up and down the street -- it was wobbly as soon as I removed it from my car! I called their customer service and explained the dispute, hoping they could resolve it with the manager and make her take it back. Not only did I not receive a call back (when I called them again, the guy claimed he had the wrong number . . .), but following up a few days later, all he did was awkwardly apologize and wish me better experiences in the future. An empty apology with no attempt to rectify the problem -- that's certainly not enough to gain my business back. As any savvy businessperson SHOULD know, the returning, loyal customer is FAR more valuable than the random one-time customer. Fail. Looks like I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I really love this Hobby Lobby! I always find what I'm looking for...and more. I had a great experience today with Glenn in the custom framing dept. I went today to pick up my order and noticed one of my framed prints seemed a tad crooked. He measured and saw that it was straight according to the measurements but that it did, indeed appear to look crooked. He opened up the frame, took off the back and everything and fixed it right there for me. He replaced the backing and sent me on my way. I told him that I appreciated the fact that he was willing to open it and fix it because I think that it was the actual print that I ordered from Etsy that was crooked and not their framing job. But, he wanted to make sure that it would look perfect when hung in our house. I appreciated his attention to detail and willingness to make sure his customer was happy. Thanks, Glenn! I only wish Hobby Lobby had bigger shopping carts, it's hard to shop with a kid or two in tow and have room for all of the fun things I want to buy. I have such mixed feelings about this location. Personally, as a teacher, it makes more sense for me to go to Michael's because they offer a teacher discount, which Hobby Lobby does not. I do enjoy their digital coupon you can use on one item when you're there though! My biggest issue is their terrible hours, and with them being closed on Sunday, just forget any teaching prep you have in mind before the start of the school week. The store often is all sorts of messy, and during the holidays they never have enough registers open. One time I was there, there was a manager standing around, while she could have opened a register, the lines were so long and the store was getting so hot, it was frustrating. Especially to see someone just standing around not doing their part to help out their employees. Beyond that, often times when I ask someone to help me find something, they look at you like you're interrupting their whole day, which is annoying since I am the paying customer. Hobby Lobby is great to go to if you want a good deal on one expensive item that day, but for the everyday stuff, I would avoid this location; actually you don't even have to try so hard to do that, considering their hours are so terrible! read more

I went for the sales and it turned out not to be a bargain. Bought some paint brushes and a mat board. The lady in front of me must have pissed off the cashier because she was throwing the stuff into the bag. So when I get home I realize that the paint brushes escaped thru the hole the cashier made when she was having her fit. I sent a note from their website and they responded with, Thanks for letting us know and please continue shopping with us. The store is clean and there are a lot of craft items to chose from. The problem is the checkouts are always backed up and slow. I also hate the fake pricing that requires you to use a coupon for every item that is not already marked on sale. Hobby Lobby itself is a great place to go for crafty items, wall decor, picture frames, fabric, holiday decor, etc. This Hobby Lobby, however, has proved to be among the worst for customer service. I have NEVER once been simply greeted by an employee here. I've NEVER been asked if I need any assistance. I've NEVER seen more than 2 of the 6+ registers open, regardless of how long the line is. I've ALWAYS had to go on a (long) search for an employee if and when I do have a question. The employees all seem grumpy. Employees could absolutely care less if their carts are in your way while they are putting away items (again, they do not even acknowledge your presence!). There are a lot of dust bunnies floating around that I've noticed. Nothing is barcoded and the registers are very outdated, making the checkout process even longer. I witnessed a customer receiving a completely inappropriately rude response from an employee yesterday when she asked where an item was. It was so off the wall, I almost asked her if she was feeling okay (not knowing the employee nor customer) because it was so bizarre. It's weird because people are going to have questions at this type of store. It could be an awesome store if the customer service was actually present. I just don't understand how someone can run a business without providing proper customer service training and expectations. It's just too bad! read more

This store has so much stuff. If you are needing to decorate a room, come on down to Hobby Lobby. If you need some materials to do an art project, come on down. If you need candles, baskets, artificial flowers, picture frames, art supplies, children's crafts, beading, material, framing, this is for you. But really, wait until it goes on sale. It seems everything eventually goes on sale, and they are good sales - like 50%. So it is worth waiting for if you can. Prices tend to be on the high end. read more

Hobby Lobby is one of the better craft stores around. It's less expensive than Michael's Craft Store, and it offers more variety when compared to JoAnn Fabrics. The store is huge and has almost anything you could ever need to look for. It was the go-to craft supply store of my sorority (Kappa Delta) in Bloomington, IL. We even found a small tank of helium for party balloons. I recently visited the Westmont Hobby Lobby, and I must admit it was a bit hard to find an employee to ask a question. The one bad thing about such a big store is that it's hard to find what you're looking especially when aisles are not clearly marked. Hobby Lobby could use a lesson in wayfaring. On a lighter note, there are always great sales going on. Pull out your smartphone and look up Hobby Lobby on your browser and it's easy to pull up coupons to use at the register. I was surprised that they didn't make me have a printed out coupon. Hobby Lobby is tech friendly in that sense. Overall, I highly recommend Hobby Lobby for your craft needs. read more

Nearing the end of an art project, I investigated Hobby Lobby for various arts and crafts kits. What I discovered was fairly standard: an assortment of plastic model cars from numerous eras, cross stitch projects, and paint by number kits. Some of the prices seemed rather steep. For instance, a cross stitch by number project was around $40. I do not know how those kits are priced elsewhere, but it seemed a bit much. My criticism of this store is lack of organization. Customers have to walk down each aisle to find anything. There are no over head signs indicating what merchandise is down each aisle. The signs at eye level on the shelves don't help much either. Most of them just delivered sale information, not what is available down the aisle. I feel this issue really needs to be corrected. The store is huge and contains a wide variety of crafts. What I noticed first was the vast array of fake foliage. As I traveled through the store, I thought the quality of the goods seemed high. In particular, the woodwork on the frames and artwork looked expensive. If you are planning a 1950's retro room, you may find some interesting signs and sayings here. I also noticed lots of Christian sayings, such as Bible verses and other inspiration. All the craft tools you need are here too. You can find paints, glue, stickers, and scrapbook materials, among other items. If you are a miniaturist, Hobby Lobby has a small collection of shrubbery for the outside of your doll house. I could not find any dollhouse kits or much in the way of furniture. In all, I think Hobby Lobby is a fun place to browse and gain ideas for projects. Be sure to allot enough time to shop, since it is hard to find specific items. read more

This store is obviously not known well for its customer service but I heard it sort of sucks to work there. I honestly don't really ever find the need to interact much with the staff other than to point me in the right directions sometimes but even then I usually like wandering. The store is pretty huge and there are always great deals. I always get picture frames from here (they're always 50% list price) and pretty much every other week on their website that have a coupon for 40% off a single item that you can print out and use in store and on alternating weeks they have coupons for other specific items in store. Every time I come to the store I can always find something else I want to buy. All in all, it's not a bad store, their customer service could probably use a huge improvement, but that won't stop me from shopping here. I read all the other reviews, and quite honestly, I had great customer service! I had a pleasant little experience towards the end of my encounter that I wished to share. I initially went to Office Depot because I was looking for something to carry magnetic signs I use occasionally on my car. When they're not physically displayed on the vehicle, I needed to store them. I previously had them in a large Rubbermaid container in the trunk, but for some reason, they always got dog-eared, and took several "smashing sessions" to flatten them out. Office Depot referred me to Hobby Lobby, and they spot-on! I found probably 15-20 different types and styles of flat cases with handles, you know, the ones that artists normally carry their works to and from their studios. I located one that I thought would fit my magnetic signs, and after I got home, unfortunately it was much too large. So, I returned to the store, met two pleasant clerks who handled my refund, then re-purchase of a right-fitting case with a handle that is just great! Why did I give them four instead of five stars? Because of their antiquated check-out procedures, an NO scanner for UPC's on their products. The "pleasant experience" was that one of the cases I selected did not have a price on it. I figured since it had a UPC on it, that the checkout clerk could scan it. I was wrong. I had to wait for a clerk from the art department to come all the way up to the register, go back to her department, then come all the way back to the register for my price. The checkout clerk politely asked if I would mind waiting while she checked out a few patrons in line behind me, and since I was in no rush, I said, "Go ahead." It took three people to check out while I was waiting. However, EACH AND EVERY PERSON who knew that I was waiting behind me, personally thanked me for allowing them to go ahead, and the last one wished me a Merry Christmas! That whole thing really made my day, and I was happy to see that people waiting (a short time thanks to my patience) were pleasant, kind, and actually gracious. Where do you see that these days? This store is nice, the employees are not! I have been to this location several times and not once has any employee ever been friendly! I asked an employee on the floor where something was, she glared at me, I don't think I was wearing my inverted pentagram occult necklace at the time, and was rudely told over by the flowers like I was suppose to know that. I then tried to check out. The card reader was not reading my chip, the cashier said "do it again" and again did not read it, that nasty cashier said "do it again" like 5 times but not once said "oh I'm so sorry just try it again." I can happily use my money somewhere else and as for it being a "christian store" they should read all their posters and sayings and attempt to adhere to those teachings when dealing with customers. read more

I come here from time to time when I need some basic supplies, such as glue. However, whenever I need something that few other stores carry- like a ball bearing or a poster board- Hobby Lobby doesn't have the biggest selection. It annoys me because they instead carry a lot of random stuff like stickers that clogg up all the shelf space. Not to mention, the store is very messy and disorganized. Finally, they don't offer the best prices. Its a convenient store, but I think there are a lot of improvements to be made. read more
