Rest assured the employee that currently works there is very nice! It was our first time at this store where we came in for warhammer and paint brushes. When checking out, the kind employee told us about their Facebook club which hosts games, painting nights, events, and more. The store is never ending and has anything hobby related you could want. been to this place three times. had a experience that would be expected. the first time I bring my family to show them, the employee chases after them and accused them of shoplifting. way before exiting as most parents do have to tell children to put items back. with nothing in had they were addressed. we do have a interracial family, maybe why the employe was so confident. read more

My son and I recently got i to Warhammer 40k. We were surprised at how fee places sell it. We went to Hobby Chest many months ago and many many times since. Dan is super nice! He is extremely helpful and loves talking to people! The shop itself is chock full of stuff! You can even use his tables for free!! Just clean up your mess! He had the battery I needed and he even checked to make sure it was in perfect condition and all the cells were balanced before I left. Hobby Chest is the absolute best hobby store I have ever been to. Dan has a huge collection of stuff from RC planes, trucks, and cars to games of all sorts. Lots of stuff on hand and he will order anything for you that he doesn't have. I have been visiting his shop since 2005 and have zero complaints. read more

Went to this shop twice in one week for some parts for a(n) RC Truck that I had gotten, but the guy was very rude and hateful. He talked down on me and other people that came into his shop. He wouldn't help me figure out what was wrong with my truck either, just criticized. You'd think and expect someone working in a hobby shop would have the professionalism and knowledge to help their customers who come in and help them figure out what's wrong with an object they have, but apparently this guy doesn't have a clue. Went in to purchase model, owner said it was on hold for some one for a month. I politely asked him to message the guy to ask if he was still interested in purchasing the model and he had agreed. Came in a few days later as he told me to and I had asked and said no, he never agreed on that and he would not sell me the model. Berated me infront of his customers. Went in for paint, got berated and called a liar in front of all the other customers. 1/10 would not recommend. Today was my second and last experience with Hobby Chest. I bought over $120 worth of items (mostly paint) a couple months ago, and had major discrepancies in the "new" bottles I purchased. Simply put, many had obviously been opened and used. The owner also rounded up every item to the nearest dollar when ringing me up, overcharging me for an incomplete product. Aside from that, he was very friendly and helpful. Today, the owner stopped me from opening bottles and asked what I was looking for, so I explained what happened. He instantly went full on the defensive and started yelling at me saying I insulted him. I reminded him, I hadn't done anything wrong in the first place or accused him of anything and tried to calm the situation. (Why was I the one trying to deescalate this??) I offered, it's possible a customer opened some bottles and used them in the store (many were currently there working on models), pretty standard for hobby shops. He said that was impossible and called me a liar, and said I blamed him/other customers for cheating me. This went back and forth a bit, me getting yelled at in front of every other customer in the store. It blows my mind that the owner of this store was so adamantly against the possibility of a mistake on his part that he would go so far to ensure the loss of me as a customer. I don't know why he caused such a scene but it was almost like he wanted everyone in the store to hear what was going on. I definitely didn't start anything trying to raise a fuss, but there's only so much yelling I'm going to take before firing back (again, I'm a paying customer getting yelled at by the store owner for his mistake!). I asked him about overcharging me at some point during all this and he said it was to save me money, and claimed he rounded up less than the cost of the tax. But with me, he rounded up AND charged tax so that argument is invalid anyway. Again, possibly a mistake, but he wasn't having any of that. This was going nowhere, so I left pissed off and empty-handed. Such a stupid thing ruined this whole experience. Mr. Dan, if you read this, you asked me earlier why I even came back to the store after my first experience. My answer; the first time didn't ruin hobby chest for me, but the second time absolutely killed it. And what could I possibly have to gain from any of this?! I didn't ask for any refunds or discounts. I just wanted to buy some paint. If you have any other stores you'd like to recommend I'll gladly check them out. read more

This is a good place for Role playing games and such but it is a bit cramped. The store is small but has a great selection! They don't have price tags but if you look at the item it does say how much it is on the cpu sticker. Besides this is probably the ONLY place to get all this great gaming stuff in Jacksonville so it doesn't really have any competition. I will definitely be going back though because the cashier was super nice and again it has a great selection of items. read more

The shop carries a large variety of items and is able to order any thing that he dose not carry however, the store is so full of stuff that you can't tell where stuff is and most items are covered buy other stuff most items do not have price tags and you have to ask about everything then u have to wait on him to look the price up on his iPad the last time I checked it was 2012 and we have the ability to make price tags and use a computer and cash register everything was run down and dirty. The only reason I will still shop there is becouse that is the only shop in town. read more
