Where to begin! I was visiting West Point for the first time to attend a basketball game at the…read moreacademy. The area around the academy is small and sparse as far as dining options. We found Benny Havens on Yelp and thought it looked worth a try. This place is what it is, a local institution that does what it does; if you want something else, go someplace else. It is of course unabashedly an Army bar. Sure it's a dive, but in the coziest, best sense of the word. The owner and staff were welcoming and the food was simple and honest. All they have is hamburgers/cheeseburgers and wings, and fries or onion rings! That's it! We had cheeseburgers and fries/onion rings and everything was fresh and tasty. The bar is a great big wooden thing and I bet it has stories to tell. The beer was cold and the whiskey tasty. It's cash only, so bring your greenbacks. I don't often have reason to stop at places like Benny Havens, but every time I do, I wonder why I don't visit more often.

We came for the burgers - and must admit was wary of going to a little pub for food- but they did not disappoint! The burgers were big and juicy and tasted like they had been grilled on a backyard bbq. (So good I forgot to snap a photo!) The fries were light and crispy (similar to McDonalds). We tried the chicken wings as well. They are fried and not as juicy as I typically like, but had a good flavor. It's a limited menu but there's a little something for everyone (chicken tenders, burgers, onion rings, mozzarella sticks). The waitress and bartender were both very kind and friendly to myself and my son, who were visiting West Point Academy for the weekend. We also met a couple of WP Alums who were meeting up and very nice and welcoming to us both. Def recommend if you're in town for a local experience - swing by for a burger and a beer!

I had the haddock fish & chips, my husband had the bangers and mash, and we finished with sticky toffee pudding and custard. Everything was delicious and felt like authentic British pub food. The atmosphere was fun, and we loved how the TVs are hidden behind what look like paintings when not in use -- such a cool touch! There's plenty of seating, even for larger groups. We'll definitely be back for future England games, and next time we may bring our dog since we found out they're dog-friendly too!

First off-the owners are so FRIENDLY and kind--you can talk to them about anything and they are happy to answer questions about any of the food and/or drinks. You can tell they love owning this place and meeting customers. I have heard so much about the Pub and went for the first time yesterday with two friends. We had one of their rotating cask beers and one of their bitter regular casks which is a staple of the establishment-each beer was delicious and tasty! I had the vegan curry dish which was very tasty with veggies, rice and great spice. My friends had a dish similar to Shepherd's Pie but slightly different and cooked with more like steak stewed meat rather than lamb and we all licked our plates clean LOL. We also shared two of the desserts which were vanilla ice cream with some type of coconut cookie in it and the other was vanilla ice cream with a yummy type of strawberry sauce I think. The atmosphere is so laid back as well-like traditional British Pubs you order your drinks and food at the bar and they deliver your food to your table with a number. You are able to sit wherever you would like and I hear it gets very packed for European football games. I can't wait until I get a chance to go again-there aren't a ton of food options being that I don't eat red meat-but I was able to find the curry and could also try the Fish and Chips which looked amazing and I have heard it is great. If you are in the area-stop by for a drink or two and you will not be disappointed-you feel like you are transported to England with these type of pub.

When I was a teenager in the 70s and looking for somewhere to slip into on the QT and get served underage... even MY standards were not met by the place as it existed then. It was scroungy, populated by woodchucks, and... not very respectable. Even well before that, when it was Ma Betcher's Trail Inn, it didn't have the greatest reputation in the world. One always wondered what was going on in the somewhat sleazy-looking second story of the building. Luckily, that's all changed now... at least on the first story. (2nd story is still looking a little sketch.) They got a name chef in there who's running the place as a labor of love... and it shows. The food is excellent and the decor is nice, simple, and understated. Gets excellent singers and small groups in there on certain nights. Great crowds as well. Man, I wish this place was around when I was younger!

I have to say the French onion soup was without flavor and cold. A real disappointment. The fried shrimp were very, very good. The mozzarella sticks were also very good. The chicken wings were very bad. They were weirdly distributed in like bit by bit pieces. Makes no sense. Really the only downfall to the trifecta. I really like this place and hope they can improve.
