Popped in for some hibachi chicken and shrimp and put stickers... this was a slow lunch day for them, s as I was about the only person in the lobby. I would call it, quaint. Not sure how new this place is but stopped by for takeout on the way home from Love Field. We were back the next day and have been back several more times. The set up is much like a national chain. Both are so delicious, and remind me of faux Asian cuisine to a tee. There's a sense of sweetness in these dishes that is not present in typical Chinese cuisine, but that's not a bad thing. There are certain times I crave Chinese food and certain times I crave Chinese American food, and every time the latter happens, Ho Mei is the way to go. I opt'd for the premade food. Side note, there was a sign outside that said you get a free spring roll with a 1 Side and 2 entree box, only on Saturday and Sunday. I was offered a spring roll or chicken on a stick. I got Crab Rangoons, Lo Mein, Teriyaki Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, and Chicken on a Stick. All of that cost about $14. Keep in mind the Rangoons were $5 alone. Pros: Crab Rangoons were twice the size of other restaurants and served with a sweet and sour sauce. Chicken on a stick was great. Good flavor and not dry. Portion sizes were very large. Cons: Food was warm at best. Lo Mein was bland. Teriyaki Chicken and General Tso's Chicken were basic. They weren't bad but I wasn't super impressed. I was however given packaged soy sauce and orange sauce. I was a bit disappointed not having the red sweet & sour sauce. I'm not sure if they have it as I didn't see any. I will go back. I am conflicted. The portion sizes are pretty large, especially compared to Panda Express. However, I can't say that the food tastes as good. The Lo Mein is super bland and is basically seasoned with only soy sauce, and could use some white or black pepper, and maybe some vegetable pieces or something. The Green Curry was waaay too sweet and had jalapeños, which I am not sure usually comes in Green Curry dishes. The fault probably goes on me for ordering a Thai dish at a Chinese express restaurant. The Mongolian beef was fine, but the beef was a tiny bit dry. Might have been sitting under the heat lamp too long. All of the food is hot & fresh, the staff are pretty friendly, & the place is nice & tidy. In addition, we learned that they don't use MSG in their recipes. (This is a plus since one of my friends is allergic to MSG.) I really enjoyed my lunch today. The order was completed correctly with no items wrong and all the items were as ordered. Food arrived cold/room temperature. Spring rolls - Soggy. Pretty empty inside. Veggie only. Very salty without sauce. Even salter with sweet and sour sauce. Probably one of the worst spring rolls I've had. Dumplings - soggy, despite being fried. Not much filling on the inside. Pretty bland. Not inedible, but I definitely would not get these again. Orange chicken - this dish actually arrived hot. Soggy. Chewy. Mushy? Not much flavor. Served with broccoli, which was over cooked. The dish is drowning in watery bland sauce. Fried rice - Very bland & soggy. Despite having peas, carrots, onion, & having a "fried" color, it's surprisingly very bland for what it looks like - almost like they put food coloring for the color instead of frying it. This one arrived cold cold, like it was place in the fridge and not heated up. Combo Lo Mein - Bland. Beef was cooked decently - not dry. Chicken was pretty good - moist. Shrimp was insanely overcooked - driest shrimp that wasn't actually "dried". Overall, incredibly disappointed. very large discrepancy in temperatures. Food is very bland. All fried things were soggy. Think Panda Express but so much better. Some highlights...Crab Rangoon are big and tasty. Spring rolls fresh. Teriyaki chicken was our favorite entree -- tender and juicy with lots of flavor (like bourbon chicken). Everything we tried had good flavor..except the orange chicken, too plain. One issue, a few of the un-sauced chicken entrees were tough -- I'm looking at you Jalapeño and Korean chickens (though both still very tasty). The sauced chicken dishes were super saucy and sugary, which may turn some off, but we enjoyed the complexity of their General Tso's. They were also lovely people and passed out as many samples as us first timers could possibly want. The decor inside I thought was cool, like hole-in-the-wall Chinatown cafeteria meets a bodega. You can also order fresh food from their regular menu. But you just cannot beat the value of their pre-cooked food, they heap it so high it almost overflows the styrofoam box.
