I was immediately impressed by Paul's depth of knowledge and unique experience related to native design which set him apart from the rest of the field in North Texas. Fast forward 10 months and two extensive design implementations later (front and back yards) I couldn't be happier with the results. The results are two of the most uniquely designed & implemented yards in all of DFW. The backyard is completely native southwestern landscaping with rock, cactus and agaves imported from all over Texas, Arizona, and California. In contrast the front is classic southern with original elements picked up in New Orleans and Savannah. In the end the pictures, which I have posted here, speak for themselves. If you are looking for someone to develop and implement a totally unique high end design Paul is your best option in North Texas hands down. His design acumen puts him in a category all his own in North Texas and on par with the best native landscape architects from across the country including places such as Palm Springs, CA and Austin, TX.

First to repair a rock wall that had not been built correctly by a previous contractor and was starting to fall over. Paul and his crew completely disassembled the wall, put in a more solid base and rebuilt the wall the right way. Second, we had Texas Nativescapes fix a drainage and erosion issue that was causing damage to our back fence. Paul and his team removed about 240 sq ft of grass and dirt and replaced with base of decomposed granite and river rock. Both finished projects look great.

And I didn't have to sell a kidney. They are flexible, have great communication and left my backyard in great shape. I thought the pricing was fair considering how efficient they were. Even though you have to book them weeks in advance, its worth it.

Instead of attempting to resolve my concerns professionally, Jeff sent me the following text message: "I flagged your account and deleted the invoice from today. It's a small price for me to pay to realize you were an issue to begin with and we don't work well with people like you." I believe this message speaks for itself and demonstrates how customer concerns are handled. Additionally, Jeff S., as listed on the review, posted a review about me personally online despite never having hired me for any business services "Do not recommend Stephanie R, very rude and callous" Rather than addressing the service I received, the response attacked me personally. It was also stated that I instructed the company to never contact me regarding the service. That is simply not accurate. As the property owner, I specifically instructed the company to contact my tenant for scheduling and appointment confirmations because I do not live at the property. I did not tell them to never contact me regarding the work itself, that is ridiculous- I am the one paying for it all. I believe businesses should respond to customer feedback with professionalism and factual information. Unfortunately, my experience after leaving an honest review has only reinforced the concerns I originally raised with personal attacks and name calling. ------- Original review: I called them out because my tenant admitted in writing that she had changed the sprinkler controller settings and wanted the system checked afterward. Before scheduling the appointment, I explained to the company that the service call was specifically to inspect and reset the system because the tenant had altered the programming. After inspecting the system, Jeff called me and immediately said the entire system was "all messed up," claimed the controller was "an old Home Depot one," and estimated approximately $1,100 in repairs. He also told me there was "probably nothing they could do" to reset the controller. After questioning that conclusion, the story suddenly changed, and I was told they actually could reset and reprogram the controller after all. What concerns me even more is that when I received the invoice, there was no mention that the tenant had changed the controller settings or that this was the reason for the service call. I specifically requested that this information be documented, and the company refused. The property was purchased in February 2026 and underwent a professional home inspection with no sprinkler system issues reported. I find it difficult to believe that just a few months later the system suddenly required extensive repairs, including replacement of 17 sprinkler heads, especially when the service call was prompted by a tenant changing the programming. I can't say whether the repairs were truly necessary, but I left feeling pressured into a very expensive recommendation, received inconsistent information from the technician, and was disappointed that the invoice did not accurately reflect the reason for the visit. Because of that experience, I will be seeking a second opinion before authorizing any major repairs and would encourage others to do the same.

You now reach a call center and management no longer communicates with customers. Called two weeks ago to inform them that my entire was not being mowed and that I had grass down the center that was at least 3 to 4 inches taller. Gave them two weeks to correct, still not correct- it's now worse, I have strips of tall green grass and burned grass to the soil. Was promised crew would be out on Friday or Saturday to fix. Waited until late Saturday and was then told they were waiting on the crew manager to reach back out to them and they would try for Monday. I asked to speak to a manager and was told the new management team no longer does this. To add insult to injury, they mowed off a sprinkler head in an area they mowed too low. After I shared I recently paid over $400 to have my whole system checked and repaired, they came out within a few days to fix the broken head. When I called Chorbie Weed Treatment, they actually made an effort to keep my business as they now serve as two separate entities. I hired another company to come out and mow properly. Yard looks great again. It's just hard to believe they just let a loyal customer go that fast.

The next day they came out and we were waiting on the sod. They are really highly self motivated. While waiting they just started to weed back and edge my front yard. The sod showed up and they went straight to work on the installation. These guys worked their back sides off. They had extra sod, so they prepped another area and installed the rest of the sod. They did an outstanding job. I don't have enough words to explain how good this crew is. This 5,000 sq ft of sod. I have 35,000 sq ft of back yard and hired Evergreen Lawn and Land scape. They have installed 20,000 sq ft so far. I will be hiring them for the next 5,000sq ft. This is a great landscape company and they have great employees.

I'll post before and after pics after they've serviced the new house.

Grass Roots was one of three quotes I received. I went with them because John was the cheapest of…read morethe three. What a nightmare it has been. I have text messages to back up all these details. March 2018 I contacted John to fix the flooding in my backyard, plant sod and update my landscaping in the front and create a backyard landscape. I asked for either oak leaf holly or green arborvitae and instead, I got lelland cypress and they are diseased and dying due to the way in which they were planted according to a disease specialist. Grassroots does not warranty its work. I also asked for 1 purple fountain grass and got two standard green fountain grass instead. They planted 1 Loropetalum, it died quickly because it was planted in front of a sprinkler and this bush doesn't like water so they planted it again, this time capping the sprinkler but it also died. They did not excavate any flower beds before planting, planted right over the mulch that was there. I learned this by watching the video surveillance. I confronted John about this and he got defensive stating his team planted everything correctly. They were also supposed to fix a flower bed leak but they did not. They had to come back after the bed was planted and disrupt the weed prevent tarp to fix it and it was never actually fixed properly so I had to have an irrigation specialist come and fix it and also move sprinkler heads because Johns team planted trees right in front of my heads blocking the water flow from reaching the middle of my yard. Due to this leak, my new flower bed was not getting good watering for 1 solid month. All of this said I do like my landscape design minus the dying plants and weeds and grass growing in them. On the drain work, I text him a drawing of what needed to be done and they followed the design but after the first big rain I still had some flooding in my swell and side yard. Originally they dug out my swell and planted sod so It could flow under the fence but it couldn't due to my neighbor's yard also needing to possibly be dug out at the fence or have a drain installed. I told john in text that the neighbor wanted a quote to fix the flooding in her backyard. I asked many times for this quote and never got one. The next thing I know, Johns crew dug up my neighbor's yard without her approval and no quote was ever given. To top it off it made her flooding worse in her yard. I told John this and he got defensive saying he did not charge her and everyone's yard would be a pond if we did nothing, he never admitted his fault. I told him that if I needed a second French drain to do it but instead they built the dirt back up on my side and I was told they returned my neighbor's yard back to its original height but they lied and never went back to her house after the intial dig. I asked twice for flooding in a rock bed along the side of my house to be fixed but they never touched this area. For my sod installation, the original plan and quote was to plant sod where they dug up the drain, along my foundation and patio and on the side of my house where it was dirt. They planted sod in areas I never mentioned and It took me asking three times to actually get the sod planted where I wanted it. On one occasion they left sod sitting outside for three days drying out before they planted it and it died in my yard after planting despite the same watering schedule as the original grass they planted that did well. John also told me to water new sod every other day and I did which contributed to grass dying. Google says new grass needs to be watered 2 x a day and kept moist. Also contributing to grass loss what a broken sprinkler head that I was told not to turn the sprinklers on and they would be back the next day, well they actually didn't come back for 3 days. The communication and organization was poor. In all of this both me and my husband lost our job and I have been paying my balance monthly but got a threatening message that he will come rip the plants out or file a mechanic lien if I don't pay in full. If you use them make sure you are home to monitor their every move so that its done right. If I had done this I probably would have caught all these issues and would not be having to write this review.
