HiveXO is a tiny little boutique on an island in a parking lot near Salt Creek Beach in Southern Orange County. They sell small items and jewelry and things like that. They also sell vegan and dairy free ice cream sandwiches and that is what this review will focus on. It is very hard to find a gluten-free cookie sandwich. Let's be real, the cookies don't usually hold up! The good is that the sandwiches are very large and appropriately cookie sandwich sized and that they have multiple flavors on any given day. You cannot guarantee that your flavor will be there as the sandwiches are prepackaged and sold according to the batch they have made for that day. Fresh, but not versatile. For my vegan and gluten-free people, these are great because you will stay healthy and have a sweet treat. Downside is sometimes products in this vegan gluten-free category can have a bit of an aftertaste, and even though my strawberry cookie sandwich was tasty, I did leave a bit of a film and a bit of an aftertaste. Overall, I, appreciate what this business is doing and maybe once a summer will grab a sandwich. read more

We were in south county for a tennis match and lucked out going to this spot for a sweet treat. It's tough to find gluten free non dairy desserts, so I checked out Yelp to find this GEM! We were expecting more of a typical ice cream shop and were confused by the location and size, but you know what, size doesn't matter. We ordered two ice cream sandwiches (thank you to a reviewer that said she wished she ordered her own). I had lemon which was the perfect balance of sweet and tart and left my tummy with blissful satisfaction. My husband had the chocolate peanut butter and he didn't speak for the entire 10 minutes devouring every last bite and then I couldn't stop him from speaking raving about what he had just eaten. Very cute little kiosk that sells unique goods and yummy popsicles! We really loved the unique flavours and the owner was so nice. We tried root beer, lavender lemonade, vanilla chai and raspberry plum basil for the popsicle flavours. I appreciated that they had both dairy and non-dairy options and there were plenty of varieties of both. Got the Daily Specials: Snickerdoodle ice cream sandwich with vanilla ice cream and Oatmeal cookie sandwich with vanilla ice cream and chocolate chips. Both were delicious and made with good ingredients listed on the packaging. Our only complaint was that the oatmeal cookie was a little bit tougher/ harder to bite than the snickerdoodle, which was super soft. We liked the fact that the sandwich was premade and frozen ready to eat. The sandwich kept its integrity and avoided issues that build-your-own ice cream sandwich places usually have, like ice cream melting too quickly or exploding out the other end after taking a bite. I've tried quite a few vegan dessert places and let me just say they usually fall flat in some regard. Ice cream not creamy enough, cookie not chewy or too crunchy, etc but this place I swear it is as good as the best of them. I was surprised. I'm not vegan and I have regular cookies and ice cream all the time and I can safely say I could switch to this with no issues. The lavender and the lemon in that cookie were not just hints of that flavor they went all in and it was fantastic. They complemented the whole combination between the creamy cold vanilla (made with coconut I believe) so amazingly.
