Wow! This is the best mustard style bbq I've ever had. This is a regional specialty in South Carolina and you have to try it if you're here for a visit or stopping through. The food was amazing and the ladies who work here are the nicest people you will ever meet. Can't recommend this place enough!

Almost forgot to get a pic before I ate it all! Hite's BBQ pork platter. Not pictured, good coleslaw that got eaten quickly.

You can smell the wood smoke for a mile as you approach. That's good advertising. The smoke penetrates the pork meat, so the light sauce that comes pre-applied is not overwhelming, though as another reviewer states, I would prefer my meat naked. This pulled pork is some of the best I have ever had. It rivals Sweatman's, and may even top it for depth of smoky flavor. The whole chicken is the smokiest, most tender you'll find, with perfect crispy skin and saturated with smoky goodness. The ribs are generously portioned and falling off the bone tender, and again the mustard sauce is not needed, though the smoke flavor shines through regardless. The coleslaw is simple: cabbage, mayo, and what I believe to be bread-and-butter pickles, but it is crisp and good alongside the smoky meats. The hash is only meh, and while it has a decent consistency it lacks flavor and begs for some hot sauce or other accoutrement. This said, I readily acknowledge I have been ruined by Sweatman's BBQ for all other hash. This is second only to theirs, so it qualifies as pretty decent hash: no weird chunks or gristle, plenty of meat. I read rave reviews of the skins, and took the advice of others to call and order a pound ahead of time, or miss out. The skins are different from any I have ever had, and while I am not sure I am a fan, I can't stop eating them. There'll be a bit that's tough and chewy, and then a bit that's puffed like pork rinds, then some that's meaty and fatty... it's an adventure and rather addictive, and when you get a piece that's good, it is VERY good, so you go fishing for more. The sweet tea was fresh and well-balanced, and the buns served with the meal as well as to go were super-soft and tasty, if untoasted. They were even better toasted at home later. We got a bag of buns, 2 pounds of pork, a rotisserie chicken, and a pint of hash to go in addition to our meals to eat at the cute picnic tables on site. There is a lovely lakeside green area to enjoy your food, but no bathrooms, so be aware of that before you head out. Also be aware that they take cash only, and local checks. But don't push it with these ladies, just give them cash. The prices are more than fair, and 4 people ate for under $40. While I'm glad I went, I can't say this is my new favorite. But they are a solid third, and should we find ourselves in the area we'll be stopping for some pork and one of those chickens, at least! ETA: Hite's got in touch with me to let me know they are happy to fix you meat (both BBQ and ribs) without sauce, just call them and ask. They also DO have a restroom. Somewhere. And I think they said they take cards now, too. Can't wait to get out there again. Don't forget to call ahead for skins!

I've been eating at Hite's for years. It is a few blocks from my grandparent's (now my mom's) house and has been a Memorial Day and July Fourth staple in our family. Last night at 10:00, we could smell the BBQ cooking and, as always, it was amazing. The mustard sauce is strong but good. The hash has a good texture to it. The sweet ribs are my favorite, and they were my grandmother's favorite as well. This is good BBQ.

Best bbq in west Columbia. Pit cooked right in the back can't get any better. Great dinners and sides. Family owned for years and years.

No frills, just great barbecue from a long time family run restaurant. Best barbecue in the midlands hands down.

Great spot for BBQ. The ribs were out of this world tender and delicious. No frills and only outdoor seating. Glad we discovered this gem.

I ordered a pulled pork plate with Hash and a sweet tea and we sat outside at a nearby picnic table.

It's a small establishment but those tend to be the best. It's a no frills aesthetic both inside and out. Very unassuming but when I tell you this is some of the best Jamaican food I've had in a LONG time I'm not lying. The service was amazing and the team is support friendly. The brown stew chicken was not only packed with flavor but it was fall off the bone tender. The rice and peas were cooked perfectly and the brown stew gravy on top was AMAZING! all in all i've been back twice in three days...it's just THAT good!

I have never waited as long as they take to put these meals together. They did come out with an order but was completely wrong. My impression of the establishment is a small cafe with a few Jamaican flags, wording, and music camouflaged up to attract the tourists. There are no Jamaicans taking order, the menu is always on the TV. There is an attached side to cafe with 1 pool table, another bar, and stage. Upon finally receiving our orders albeit after an hour wait the food was presented well but no damn way wait for amount served. We have come to expect that no one here in America can give it the jerk taste and this was no different. Yes it is fall off bone but only jerk seasoning not the taste cooked in. It is serviceable as far as American standards. The curry chicken was way salty and the side of rice peas was very small as compared to me I got very large portion rice. The food was okay but as long as we waited I was ready to get refund and leave. If you want horrible service come here but I will not again.

From the beginning he was quick to respond to all my endless questions regarding our wedding. We actually live in Asheville and wanted authentic paella so when I found out Hugo was from Spain I had to reach out to him and see if he was willing to cater our wedding. After trying his paella at soda city I knew he was the one. I made some very important decisions that day and I honestly feel I couldn't have done any better than spanish bite! We needed about 200 servings and he made it happen flawlessly! The seafood and the all you can meat were the stars of the show but the vegetarian had those animal lovers just as elated! I got compliments all night from how great it smelled to how cool it was to watch them make it to how awesome it was that they could get thirds!! THIRDS!!! Everything was delicious and very plentiful. We started with a number of tapas including gazpacho, serrano toast, skewers of manchega and tomatoes, and vinaigrette mussels. We then enjoyed the beautifully presented paella and ended with flan and churros with chocolate sauce. It would be hard for me to pick a favorite. Everything was excellent. Having Hugo cater a Spanish feast was much more memorable than just a dinner out at a restaurant. Our meal was a huge highlight of the family weekend.
