Ok I know Tehachapi is a small town but it was unreal to us that we could get 2 movie tickets and snacks + drinks for all under $20. The only reason I ticked off a star was because the actual theater room was so dark and there were no lights on the walkway so it was really hard for us to find seats; a bit of a hazard on my opinion! The fact that Mr. Will Viner allows patrons to write a review on the Hitching post theatre is very impressive. However I have attended this theatre and on several occasions have had both projection and sound problems on different occasions. His answer to upset customers is totally unsatisfactory. Its a policy employed at small used car dealerships. For many years I supplied exhibition equipment to virtually all theatre chains as well as independants through out the country . No!! things don't go wrong occasionally. It's up to the projectionist to make sure the equipment is working properly. Mr Will Viner is obviously trying to keep operating cost down by hiring unqualified projectionist. Since his equipment malfunctions occasionally, you would think he would have a MONEY BACK policy when it does. I read his article on 3D and new digital projection equipment cost. Happy customers would be willing to pay a little more for a good professional non interrupted presentation. A good presentation is the reason many Tehachapians go all the way into Bakersfield to see a movie. Or perhaps Mr. Will Viner prefers not to pay attention to unsatisfied patrons and keep his current policy. In that case Mr. Will Viner should change his name to Mr. Will Screw you. read more

I've only gone once but it reminded me so much of the theater my sisters and I went to when we were kids. It had the same feel. I found it clean and pleasent and I agree with everyone else's comment that the popcorn is very good. I moved here because I wanted just this type of experience of small town life. read more

Tehachapi is very lucky to have Hitching Post Theaters. They have a great movies, reasonable prices and a very nice facility. The staff is friendly and welcoming. It is so nice to have quality entertainment without having to drive 45 minutes. Tuesday family fun day is an amazing deal and they have great coupons for other good deals as well. This past weekend I went out of town to Tehachapi. As me and my wife were walking around the small little areas that you my not see driving....er had come upon a western looking type of theater. Then we notice it was current style movies and get this only four dollars. Nice right. Then are thought it would have a dollar theater really to it... Not at all. This theater is small and only shows a few new movies each week... that is fine for us. We are lucky to have a theater in Tehachapi. The prices are great and there are coupons on their website to get $2 off the admission prices. Popcorn tastes great and $1 hot dogs! wow. Of course it's an older theater and could use some updating, but I kinda like the vintage, small-town feel to it. Parking is easy on the street or lot behind. read more

If you know me...I really hate going to overpriced, crowded, cattle prodding movie theaters. This place is the complete opposite. I love it here. It's clean, it's cozy, it's only $4 if your show starts before 6p. It is what going to a movie should be like. I am willing to spend the money in gas that I save to really enjoy the full experience in a place like this. I hope they never lose the honesty and clear purpose of this theater. More like a 3.5. Good theatre for this small town. Prices and snack bar items are good as well. Only issue I have is that the sound is too low...during every movie I've watched here. They just upgraded the seats and sound system. However they need to fix a couple of speakers as they are blown and sound terrible. Ruins movies for me. Not all the theaters have bad sound only 2 of them. read more

We live in Bakersfield but drive up here when they have special events. Tonight we came for the last night of their Harry Potter film festival (all 8 films, one per week for two months). I love that they do stuff like that. On Halloween they're having a schlock horror double feature, awesome! The fact that concessions are cheaper than in a larger theater paired with the more unusual offerings will keep us coming back. They even decorated quite a bit for the Harry Potter festival, with lots of posters and book quotes, how cool is that? read more

I was VERY mad and disappointed. 1st they ran out of warm hot dogs. Had to go back 15 min after movie started. Then after my movie was over the kid ate all the popcorn I wanted to buy more TO Take it home. NO. employees had to go pick up trash in theatre. There were 2 men just sitting In the office talking. Great theater, you get what you pay for so don't expect anything amazing or extra, but for seeing a movie on a big screen it does the job.

The Employees/Manager are really offensive and just plain rude. I asked for extra butter once and as I was walking away I heard them say some really mean things about my body , I've been going there for years , and it seems as it has gotten worse. The manager also talk about costumers and laugh about them , many friends and family of mine also had the same experience. NEVER going there again . Pathetic. -HM read more

I have been in Tehachapi for five years, having spent my whole life in Los Angeles. The Hitching Post Theatre is so representative of a charming small town theatre. Never have had a bad experience there. I do wish they had more movies for adults, and fewer action and animated ones, but beyond that, it is perfect! read more

Great small theater, right here in Tehachapi. Not sure how they manage to get so many films on four screens, but everything we want to see shows up right on time. Prices are great, all the staff are local kids and if you treat them like humans, they're friendly as can be. read more

Love this Theater. Great prices and coupons to boot! The employees are all friendly. The theater is old but that adds to the whole atmosphere and small town feel of it. Parking is awesome and SAFE.
