I loved walking through the serene pathways, bridges, and lush greenery while enjoying the sight of the koi ponds and watching the fish swim around. It's such a lovely spot to slow down, relax, take photos, or simply enjoy nature for a while. Some areas have been recently restored, and the garden has a quiet charm that makes it worth visiting. You can truly feel the peaceful atmosphere inspired by traditional Japanese gardens. Perfect for a peaceful stroll, reflection time, or a simple afternoon with family and friends. It's free to enter the park, just pay for parking. Definitely one of San Jose's hidden gems.

So much potential for this place! I came smack in the middle of a hot summer Sunday afternoon…read more There may have been water in creeks or ponds in the past, but not during my visit. Most paths were paved, while a few are dirt (maybe those aren't real paths)? Some benches sprinkled through out if a person wants to just sit and relax. The Japanese Friendship Garden connects to a bigger park with more trees and paved walkways, but most not shaded. Parking is $6 regardless how long you stay and there's a finicky kiosk that'll print out a ticket. Overall, I'd come again to see if there are any changes, but don't think I'll go out of my way to do so. #26/2025

Carlos, the…read moreowner of the company, is a delightful person to interact with because he is dedicated to providing the best product out there. We requested Carlos give us a quote for grass installation in our backyard, and he responded immediately, came out to take measurements, and gave us a great quote. Once we agreed, he quickly scheduled the installation. He and his men said it would take two days, and they were totally correct - at the end of two days we had an amazing yard at great value. It was an excellent investment; we loved spending in our backyard after that. We asked All Green Scape to come out again to install even more grass, and they once again provided excellent service in an incredibly timely manner. The grass has thrived beautifully- it is really high quality, both lush and soft. Kids love to roll around on it and play on it all day long. All Green Scape also does our weekly garden maintenance and it's been great as well. You can tell everyone at All Green Scape sincerely cares about making sure their customer's gardens are beautiful, and I really appreciate their expertise and hard wo. I would heartily recommend anyone looking to install grass and make their gardens beautiful reach out to Carlos at All Green Scape.

Thus, parking was plentiful on a Saturday late afternoon. The tiny oasis is part of Habitat Horticulture (founded by David Brenner), which crafts imaginative botanical installations and living walls. Projects include and can be found at SF MOMA, California Academy of Sciences, Tesla Factory, and many cafes and community centers beyond the bay area. Tranquil, aesthetically pleasing, and free to visit, it's worth spending a few moments exploring the scenery, or simply sitting on one of the two benches on site and taking in some fresh air. Though nothing too fancy, there are many elements to this place that can be appreciated, even a sculpture displaying the words "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me."

It is a beautiful quiet spot to reflect on your thoughts with living walls of plants that are so impressive. You may want to investigate how to do this yourself, but please respect the garden and stay on the sidewalk to protect it from being damaged. Moral of the story is to always take time to smell the flowers and enjoy the moment. Worth a visit when you have a moment.

But…read moreI spent time exploring and realized with a closer look that even during winter, there are still some beautiful flowers and roses to be found here, though minimal. One thing I liked is the Teaching and Demonstration Garden adjacent to the Heritage Rose Garden. They had informative signs posted about soil quality, efficient irrigation, pest problems (or "solutions" to be more accurate), and beneficial insects (with detailed colored photos and descriptions of different pollinators, predators, and parasites). There was even an Insect Hotel on site, which was intriguing, a cool little habitat for bugs to hang out. And for us humans, a few picnic tables and benches situated underneath a large tree (Guadalupe Gardens Picnic Area), though this garden/park doesn't look very picnic-friendly overall, or is very limited. At the center of the garden is a circular open space, which had two trash cans busted open and garbage scattered all over the ground on the day I visited. Nearby, glimpses of homeless encampments made the area and destination a little less desirable, though I didn't see many homeless people around, just a couple. The setting and feel of the place wasn't very appealing to me, and with a much larger, cleaner, and functional rose garden not too far away and in a nicer neighborhood (SJ Municipal Rose Garden), I don't really have much incentive to return here, not regularly at least. But I may check it out during the warmer seasons to see what it's like then.
