I used them for 7 years, but im finally done. The sales person Lisa tells you one things then changes it when she starts recording you for your contract. She made my contract for one year and 3 months instead of one year and that's puts you into the winter months, so your contract prices are higher. I ask to speak with Tom Hirsh thinking he would care what's going on in his company, boy was I wrong. He called me today after waiting for 4 days for him to call he ask me how i was and i said not great, he said are you sick I said no I'm aggravated He say that's fine we won't delivery anymore and hung up on me. Buy your oil from anywhere else but Hirsch Fuels. This company delivered 82 gallons of heating oil to my mother's house by accident. The company delivered to the wrong address and didn't realize it until the oil was delivered. My mother is an elderly woman on a fixed income and had no means of paying for oil she did not ask for or deliver. She is also under contract with another oil company. Hirsch then proceeded to harass my mother for payment, which she said she can not do. They then suggested that they come and PUMP THE OIL BACK OUT of her tank. I've never heard of anything as outrageous as this. As a small business owner myself, when you make a mistake you own up to it and promise to do better in the future. You do not blame people around you that aren't even your customers! So anyone getting oil deliveries from this company please be aware that you could be getting the recycled oil from my mom's tank which is a mix of Hirsch fuel and her actual oil provider. Choose ANYONE but Hirsch Fuels. UPDATE: Immediately after posting this review I was contacted by Hirsch. They informed me that they will not be pumping the oil out of my mother's tank and that they will not be charging my mother for the oil they delivered without her consent. I'm very happy that this company ultimately did the right thing, and as a result I am moving the star rating from 1-star to 2-star. However, no one should have to work and advocate this hard for a company to do the right thing when the company acted in complete error. read more

My elderly mother (83) and late father ( who passed suddenly) used this company for over 20 years only to be told upon discontinuing service (and moving for health reasons ) that she could not break her contact. Insisting on $800.00 penalty... in my opinion this is a terrible way to conduct business. Zero effort towards customer care. Broken commitments, broken equipment and incompetent employees. Office personnel, service technicians and even namesake employees/owners have zero regard for customers. Every item in your "contract" is designed to dupe paying clients and Hirsch will shamelessly avoid responding to calls on contracts that have already been paid. This company is so transparently greedy and dishonest it's despicable. They'll take your money but they won't honor their service schedule, call you back, follow up, respect your property, take care with your equipment and on and on. A real Shame. Automatically delivered oil though my contract was up 2 winters ago. Said this was what they do... although they never have done that outside the contract before. I've called COD when I need oil for the last 2 seasons. I'm doing COD so I can shop around, DUH. Claimed this is so I don't run out of oil. It was September (heats not even on yet) and I still had over 1/2 tank... charged me a whopping 3.74 a gallon when the going rate for COD was nearly half that. Bye forever Hirsch! read more

This local Long Island heating oil retailer has been my oil supplier for a better part of 14 years! Always a hassle to negotiate a new contract every season. Fixed price, caps, full service contracts...tried and done them all! Bottom line, they've been ripping us off for years! When you negotiate with educated prices in the current market, they say they can't make a profit on you so we part ways! Chris Hirsch is probably the head honcho over there and the one who I speak to. Don't talk to him if you want any customer service, he is all about the bottom line. He couldn't care less about how loyal you've been, how long you've paid him on time, if he can't make a load of coin off you, you're not getting a fair deal. Buying oil is like buying a used car in a lot on Northern Blvd in Jackson Heights. Whatever you do, you're gonna pay too much, guaranteed. Move on to the next row of fuel oil suppliers, this one is disguised as a dry cleaners and they'll clean you out for decades. read more

THE WORST. Do I say criminal ? The tech came to do my yearly service On 7/23/2020 9AM appointment and on time. Ok so far. 20 minutes later he tells my wife all done and the boiler has not been this clean in a long time And HE PUT IN A NEW FILTER ....Ok. She calls me at work to say all done ... how? 20 minutes ? No way !!! Upon getting home from work I check out the boiler Just to notice the filter with the date hand written in marker. 8/2018!!!!!! THE TECH LIED AND SO DID THE EMPLOYEES AT THE OFFICE WENT I CALLED . I was told the tech only leave the shop on morning with 6 filters for the day And they ran out by my 9AM appointment . BUT THE TECH TOLD MY WIFE IT HAD BEEN CHANGED . Keep your contracts, record your conversions with Chris and Kelly . BUT HONESTLY GO SOMEWHERE ELSE ANYWHERE ELSE. .. complete garbage company and clearly you can see all the bad reviews for years . WISH I HAD COME HERE FIRST TO SEE THEM. read more

I wanted to start out by saying that I have been a Hirsch fuel oil customer for over a decade and they are the only fuel company that I have ever used for oil and service. I can tell you that the service technicians are five star, always show up, fast response, always professional, and honest. I wish I could say the same about their oil prices, I understand that oil prices vary from day to day, however this company has a bad habit of price gauging. I am a wise consumer and do research as to the current prices, NYSERDA is what I use, it is a New York government entity which monitors energy prices, I'm not using message boards or social media for my information. I have now on multiple occasions gotten an oil delivery and when I examine my receipt the price is well over what the going rates are, this has probably been going on for years but I thought I was dealing with an honest reputable company and never really looked. I recently got an oil delivery and was charged excessively per gallon, I do my research which confirmed that. I called the company, which I have done now numerous times as to what I was charged. I ask what the current fuel prices are and they ask if I am a customer, what does that mean? I then tell them who I am and why I am calling and I am transferred to someone else. I explain what I was charged and the price per gallon is adjusted by .45 cents per gallon, the actual rates, unbelievable, $92.00 savings on the delivery! The person I spoke with agreed to give me the current prices reflected by NYSERDA. I am a loyal customer and pay my contract and monthly budget, but I have had just about enough. There is way to much competition out there to be dealing with this on a routine basis. I was considering having my boiler replaced by them as well as getting a hot water heater but will probably use someone else, the trust has been broken. It's ashamed what this has come to, please do your research and look at your oil receipts. read more

I have been a customer for over a decade. I have tried to leave each year and then Kelly finally matches another companies offer and I stay. I should have left years ago. They try to rip you off until you tell them you have a better offer. The cherry on the cake is their office. When you call they are rude and talk down to you. If you need oil, but according to their records you don't need oil they wont bring it. Our friend was left so low sludge went through the system and everything had to be replaced. We watch so we don't go below an 1/8 tank an call them. This time we called Saturday and got nothing, called Monday and got told our ticket was pulled and we would have oil Wednesday. Wednesday night I called crying that we were on empty . Thursday I had to scream at the office to get oil. All the while they had my $500 but I was made to feel like I was a problem customer that I actually expected oil delivered before being on empty. I can't wait to leave them. They have pushed me too far by causing this kind of unnecessary anxiety. They never even returned my call when I asked for Chris Hirsch to call my work number. Had he called I would have told him how awful his office staff was, still assuming the company was innocent. Since he never called I know he is in on this horrible customer service policy. I will certainly tell the other people I brought to Hirsch. They don't care about their customers and they threaten that if you get oil without using them they will enforce a $700 fee that is in their contract!!! read more

I am a twenty year customer of Hirsch Fuels. Yesterday I had a new heating system installed in my home. I have to say that the team sent to my house did an excellent job. They took the time to make sure that everything was neat and working properly, as a matter of fact they were at my home for over twelve hours. Worst oil company on Long Island. I was with them the first year & 1 1/2 after I bought my house because the previous owner used them. They price gouged like crazy - at the time when every other contract oil company was charging $3.95 for oil, Hirsch was charging me $4.95 & up to $5.15 a gallon, when I asked why the oil manager was very nasty to me claiming I was absolutely wrong and what did I know, I was a female - according to him women know nothing about prices of things. At the end of the season when the heat was barely being used, they constantly made deliveries even when I had 3/4 of a tank and charged me claiming they gave me 180 gallons of oil when they really only gave me 50 gallons. However in the height of the winter when it was freezing they'd let my tank completely run out of oil - after the second time it happened overnight and they wouldn't help, that's when I switched companies. All of their service techs except for 1 had no idea what they were doing, and some of them were very nasty & lazy. This company should be shut down, I have never dealt with such a horrible oil company in all my life. read more

Their good service people have left for better jobs and when you ask about price they actually think you'll pay more if they tell you how high their expenses are...,,most of the big companies are giving people price breaks now due to the historical low price of oil. I called Hirsch and asked for a break, keep in mind I am a senior citizen and have used this company over 20 years. The women, was so rude and refused , telling about their cost. I hung up, she calls back when she see my contract ends in a month and wants me to sign a new contract so she can " work with me on a good price" Told her not interested ever and hung up... Hirsch Fuels recently replaced my old oil tank with a new one, they were on time, professional, and most importantly clean. They were able to swap oil tanks up and down a narrow basement stairwell without hitting any of the walls. They even went as far as putting up some padding on the walls in those tight corners. They went above and beyond to make sure they achieved customer satisfaction. I have always had positive interactions with the Hirsch Employees and their work, looking forward to continue doing business with them. I would highly recommend this company. read more

Called to set up an appointment to have an estimate done for an additional zone. After being interrupted mid sentence with the receptionist, she told me the service manager would call me back. An hour went by, then a day, then a week with still no callback. Obviously they had forgotten me but as fate would have it my boiler began a slow leak. I call back to set up a 2 bird 1 stone appointment and the service manager is apologetic and says someone will be out the following day between 10-noon. Noon hits the following day and still no Hirsch. 3:00 pm and still no Hirsch. At the 6:00 pm hour I call for an update. The receptionist takes all my info again as if I wasn't on the service schedule for that day. I call back again at 7:30 to cancel for the day as we were putting our 17mo to bed. I then get a call around 8:00 pm by the night shift tech saying he's sorry, didn't know what happened and we rescheduled for the following morning. Receive a call the following morning from the dispatcher asking if I still needed service. Are you kidding me?? He proceeds to tell me theres only one tech working and he was out east but I would be next. 3 hours later the tech shows up and fixes the leak and is in and out in 5 minutes. I have only been in my home and with Hirsch for 1.5 years but God almighty, is this how this company operates?!?! Absolutely incompetent, will be shopping after my contract is up. read more

Total rip off! The ultra low contract is priced low so they lock you into a contract, then rip you off later. They sent out a service man who smelled like booze and treated a woman with zero respect. My mother was in tears after the "service man" left. Somehow a perfectly working boiler that has been maintained and serviced needed all this work at an exorbitant price tag. We had hired another company to clean the boiler and they assured us that none of the "issues" that Hirsch was claiming were in fact true. Stay far away! Do not lock yourself into this situation.
