I had followed her from East West Hair to this new location at Richard's Hair World. well, I like this new location, parking is super easy, and her station is the one furthest inside the hair salon. Yesterday I went to get my first Japanese hair straightening done. I couldn't be happier, as my hair was very damaged from a past blow out and had lots of split ends from all the straightening. She was great. I got a digital perm, cost $200 total + tips. My hair was middle of my back length. Due to self-coloring at home, I damaged my hair a bunch. I told her to cut as much as she think it needed to be. But she saved most of it, my hair still over my shoulder about 3 inches. The length looks great with the perm. Styling wise: it takes time. I was very lazy before. but I can't anymore. Digital perm hair need to be style. 15-20mins is not bad for looking like a million bucks. I used to go see another hair stylist in L.A, but I didn't want to go that far to get my hair done and I also didn't like my last haircut, so I decided to go see Hiro. Hiro NEVER takes advantage of you. She gave me an honest advice regarding my hair. And she uses one of the best hair solutions for all perm so your hair gets REALLY SHINY! I recently got a straight perm from her. However, my hair returned to normal after two weeks or so, so I texted her let her know that I already see my old hair, and she asked me to come in and put the best treatment to prevent any damage and straightened my hair again (My hair was really damaged because my former hair stylist put so much layer in my hair and used a different hair solution). She already knew that my hair was damaged and the reason I dindn't get the best result from the straight perm was because of a straight perm I got from another hair stylist, but she didn't complain and made my hair perfect. Hiro really wants her clients to be satisfied so she tries her best to give everyone the best. She is humorous and super friendly (I laugh so much when I talk to her)! And on top of that, she tries her best to make you feel comfortable during your visit. My mom recently got a haircut from her as well and she was very satisfied. One day I decided to check out Yelp to find a good hair stylist and then I found Hiro (thank you Yelpers!) She has worked wonders on my hair by straightening it permanently (Japanese hair straightening) and cutting it to the length I desired. I was quite happy she was able to fit me on a day another person has canceled. What made the hair cut even better was the service: she definitely listened to me every step of the way and was able to answer any questions I had (for example: what are you putting in my hair now? haha) The only bad thing is that she wants cash or check but she did mention she is considering accepting credit cards in the future. read more

I have been to Hiro twice for Japanese straight perms. She is kind, patient and extremely good at what she does. These treatments are extremely expensive, but her prices are fair and she understands how to modify the treatment based on different types of hair, which is critical to avoid damage. She also gives a complimentary cut. I waited 9 months between treatments and my hair still looked straight and glossy (except for the grown out portion). I think my hair is actually healthier after her treatments which is amazing as I have fragile hair and spend a lot of time in the ocean. She is amazing. She does prefer for people to call or text her directly to make appointments and I find that to be super easy. Before I start this review, I should say that I have VERY FRIZZY HAIR. It is not curly, not straight. It has a bit of a tiny wave in some strands but not all. And it is very, very thick. I swear my hair when it's filled with shampoo feels like 10 pounds. For over five years, I had been getting Japanese hair straightening done by a different hairdresser. However, I can honestly say that when I went to Hiro for the first time, I realized that she blew my last hairdresser out of the water in terms of quality, efficiency, and overall understanding of Japanese straightening. 1) she knows what she's doing. She's had over 30 years of experience doing Japanese straightening and even uses the legit products so you know you're not being shortchanged. 2) she's attuned to the current styles. I hated that my past straight perms left my hair feeing stick straight and all the volume of my hair has disappeared. I explained this to Hiro and she understood exactly what I was talking about. I can honestly say that this straightening actually feels like this is my actual hair because it retains volume and is flows, vs my past straightenings which left my hair very straight and felt like it hung limply next to my face. 3) she's very efficient and is always keeping busy. The process was only 4 hours when I've easily sat for 5-6 hours for the same thing. 4) She makes you feel comfortable and very easy to talk to. Important because you're sitting for a long period of time with her! 5) she is very affordable and you can tell that she really cares about your hair and your style. I was contemplating coloring my hair and she told me that she preferred my hair in its natural color, even though she could have gone ahead and done the coloring and then charge me for it. I had a horrible highlighting job gone wrong and she took the time to fix the mess, as she called it a "work in progress". Took two visits to get the hair fixed as Hiro didn't want to damage my hair any more than it already was. She did a wonderful job fixing the highlight color and making me feel normal again. Hiro has good skill as a hair stylist for sure. I had been to this store for 3 times. However, I won't stop by this place anymore. The first reason is because I got overcharged. She told me that the price would be $138 including cut, and coloring (my whole hair, it was pretty long as I shown her the picture in advance). After I went, she said my hair looked pretty and she recommended me to do the root touch up color only so I could save money. After everything was done, I still got charged for $138 and I was too shy to ask her the reason. (I actually paid $180 because I never knew that you didn't need to pay for the tips if the hair stylist is the owner. This is actually the second reason made me not very happy. ) She was absolutely professional enough to notice that the new color on my root was much darker than the main tone of my color, so she offered me to fix it next time for free (which was sweet). The biggest problem is coming here now. We made an appointment to fix my root color. Unfortunately right before I was leaving home, I found that my period came (which was unexpected.) As far as I know that it is harmful to your health to color your hair during period time. I felt sorry to cancel the appointment so I texted her, just being honest and asked her if it's ok to dye my hair during my period. She said it's not a problem. Even though, I was still worrying a lot and my stomach did not feel well. As a result, I decided to cancel the appointment. I didn't want to take the risk. I told her that I was very sorry to cancel the appointment at the last moment but her reaction was so mean...she was like oh I could have made money from other customers if you told me earlier instead of at the last minute. I knew, it was my bad, and I kept saying sorry. Her attitude just made me feel that it's all your fault, I hate you now, and I don't wanna talk to you anymore, I don't care if you are gonna come back to my store again or not because I have so many people waiting for me. That was my upset experience. It happened like half a year ago and I did not want to write any bad review (I rarely write bad reviews). But I think people have the rights to know something that is true because it helps you judge better and also this is what yelp is for. I've been coming to Hiro since I was in elementary school and I truly trust her style and skills! I usually just give her the reigns whenever she cuts and styles my hair and I've never been disappointed! People always give me compliments after a fresh new cut which says a lot imo. I recently tried out the digital perm for the first time and it was amazingg!! Hiro said it would last about 3-6 months but my hair was wavy and voluminous for over a year!! And this is coming from a person who can't keep her curls for more than a few hours without a gallon of hairspray...it was just plain magical and the whole procedure did not take long at all, especially compared to regular perms. Plus my hair did not get grossly dried out because of the special japanese products she uses. I love my hair! I got the japanese hair straightening and it was the best decision I've made. A bit pricey but well worth it if ur tired of spending hours of blow drying and straightening. I dont even blow dry it anymore! I have done the brazilian blowout elsewhere and it left my scalp dry and my hair was never the same after. This is way better and i didnt get any reaction from the product and i dont have to worry about it washing out. All i gotta do is the roots as it grows. I've had series if horror stories with other salons and stylists. Hiro's method is the only one that I can keep getting it done and actually able to hire my hair long. The first time I spoke with Hiro she asked that I come back to her in a few months because I had highlights in my hair and told me that my hair would not do too well with the straightening process. This was refreshing as she was concerned with my hair rather than to just get paid. I did come back months later. She straightened my hair and it was amazing. My hair was straight and no longer frizzy. It was shiny and actually looks healthy. I get my perm once a year and each time I never regret it. She did my hair today, and again no regrets. Hiro is very personable and friendly. It's a 3-4 hr process but it didn't seem that long because we had good conversations.
