We came back to Hiro after a not so good experience over a year ago. Tonight was starkly better. We made a quick decision to go out for a later dinner after we finished work late. We started with the spicy gyoza and then I had the soy broth shrimp. I added some chilly oil to it and it was delicious. So was the gyoza. We sat outside and Nate took excellent care of us. If it wasnt for the mosquitoes but cant hold those little buggers against the restaurant its just nebraska. read more

First time having Hiro 88 in Lincoln! We came here for Mother's Day because I knew I wanted sushi for the special occasion. As soon as we walked in I noticed how busy they were. Not sure if it's always this busy, but it was also a beautiful day. Most folks were seated outside and inside. Shout out to the staff for taking care of us! Alicia was our server and she did amazing. Now to the food -- we ordered the highway 80 and hiro 88 rolls. Along with the avocado cucumber roll for our toddler , salmon, yellow tail and mackerel sashimi. Everything was delicious! I've done carry-out a handful of times for sushi and it has never disappointed. I finally decided to do a sit-down meal, and the sushi was just as good. The prices were great since I came in during happy hour; I highly recommend going from 3 to 6 PM. I did have a pork bun, but it was a bit disappointing--the bun was crunchy and maybe overdone, unless that was the style they were going for. We had a family dinner for 7 people here Monday evening. We were seated at a round table inside right by the door going out to the patio. EVERY time someone went in or out of that door, the people at our table were hit with a reflection from the sun outside. It was like sitting in front of a strobe light. When we suggested that they prop the door open, we were told that wasn't possible. So we explained what was happening and were told there was nothing that could be done. So if you get this table for an evening meal, immediately ask force seating. We could not wait to leave! We ordered meals and sushi. Several people at the table do not use chopsticks. Food arrived and there were only 4 forks in the entire restaurant. Food got cold waiting for forks - imagine having a restaurant without forks! Finally, besides being cold, the walnut shrimp, sesame chicken and peanut butter chicken all were very dry and didn't have much "sauce" on them. This isn't the first time we have eaten here and never had this type of service or food. But all in all, it was EXTREMELY disappointing and since things have changed we most likely won't be back. read more

Team dinner is always better when it's sushi! This was my first time getting a sushi boat and the experience was perfect - highly recommend going with a group just for the presentation. The quality of the sushi is great and their rolls are pretty similar to some other places as well. I have found some more creative rolls at other places, but I think Hiro has some of the best happy hour deals at this point. The staff is always helpful and gives us more info on the rolls if we need it. It was a Saturday night and very crowded. We were promptly seated and tended too. I was craving japanese cuisine. And so hubby bought us here The ambiance is almost like it's a pretty upscale place. Pretty cool. Lots of people just hanging out and vibing. I ordered agedeshi tofu and hubby ordered shrimp tempura for starters. Food was hot and fresh. Tempura batter was good. But the sauce for the tempura and agedeshu were a little bland. Usually agedeshi tofu is cubed in smaller pieces and flash fried and the sauce would have a little more umami. I had to add soy to it to have a little flavour. Shrimp tempura was really not shrimp tempura- since there was more vegetable tempura than shrimp . I would recommend renaming it to mixed tempura. Again the sauce was not as flavourful as it ought to have been. Hubby ordered the imperial chicken asking for it to be extra spicy- this they did exceedingly well. He enjoyed his dinner very much. I ordered two rolls - hiro88 and the unagi roll. I was a little disappointed and confused. The unagi roll ended up pretty much very similar to the hiro88 roll except it had unagi on top. They look similar and taste similar. My unagi roll had a shrimp tail as garnish and that confused me further. I would probably come bsck here for the Chinese food. Not for the Japanese food. Just a little disappointed but I want to commend them on their service. It will probably be awhile before I come back for food. read more

Placed a large order 4h ahead of time. Went to pick it up at the scheduled time and it was not ready. Not once was there communication as to why it wasn't ready, that they apologized for not being ready or when they would have the order ready. An hour after it was supposed to be picked up it was finally done. By this time we had fed the kids at our house a different meal and everyone else had started snacking. Needless to say we had a lot of sushi leftover. Attempted to reach out to a manager the following Monday and the phone would only ring, emailed their customer service with no response. We have always had very slow service at this location but at least the staff was always courteous and the food was good. I understand being busy or losing an order, but good customer service and an apology can go a long ways. read more

We have dined many times at this Hiro, and the service has been good. They have been very understanding of my gluten allergy. Unfortunately, when ordering from Doordash, I am unable to request gluten-free. I called regarding my order and spoke to a very kind manager regarding my gluten-free requests. She adjusted our order so my meal could be gluten-free. I appreciate the staff taking the time to make these adjustments for me. I want so badly to like this place. The location is beautiful and convenient. But - holy cow - the service and the food leave sooo much to be desired. We're sitting here - on a slow afternoon - and waited 45+ mins for our food after telling the server we were on a tight timeline. There are less than 10 cars in the parking lot and very few tables. The appetizer that did appear was PITIFUL (pro tip : the steam bun is crispy fried, not steamed - gross. The "bbq pork" is actually just soy sauce drenched pork - double gross ). The server dropped the app and never checked on us again. They've walked by our table a few times but otherwise we were ignored. Fun twist : when the food came out, the order was incorrect (server denied) & was so delayed we had to take it to go. We were seated quickly and the order was taken within a few minutes. During the lunch hour, it seemed the wait was longer than expected. My 2 piece Bento box consisting of salmon teriyaki, salad, and California roll arrived with the salmon being slightly overcooked. That was the only complaint about the food. Hiro 88 has been a go-to spot for my husband's family for years across Lincoln and Omaha, and has now been something I've come to crave often. This Hiro specifically off 56th and Pine Lake is by far our favorite! It's been consistent, great service, and super good -- something we can't say about all Hiro locations. I'd highly recommend Hiro for anyone who's craving sushi, fried rice, lo mein, or a seared salmon. I think it's menu isn't too big but large enough for anyone who doesn't love sushi to find something they really enjoy. Food was pricey ~$20 per dish and the kung pao chicken was so salty I actually couldn't eat it. I'm pretty disappointed after spending over $100 for the food that we all thought was insanely salty. It no exaggeration to say mine was inedible. I'm not picky at all but the level of salt was so high I had to throw it away. Very disappointed as this was very pricey. Our waiter, Bennet, stopped by shortly after we were seated and took our drink order. Our drinks arrived immediately after our order was placed and Bennet stopped by shortly after that to take our food order. I had placed a mobile order went and picked it up everything was fine until I went to eat it and it wasn't what I had ordered. So I called the restaurant and had spoke with the manager told him what had happened he told me that i would have to bring it back into town to make sure that it was made wrong before they would do anyting about it. I told him that we lived out of town and he told me that their was nothing he could do for me. Horrible service. Busy or not, they can't figure out how to get sushi out in a reasonable time. Place is empty? Expect to wait 30-45 minutes for sushi. Busy? Holy hell, now you're talking 90-120 minutes to actually get your sushi (they will always tell you an hour, but it's actually two). Other options around Lincoln are going after them...it's sad because Hiro88 was great at one time. Even more sad: it was well before the pandemic it started to go south...can't blame it on COVID-19/short staffed. In summary: Your brand is taking a serious hit in town. People don't want to wait two hours for sushi. Invest in training and developing talent. Pay your people enough to keep them. When it came out the manager came over and in a disinterested manner asked if our food was ok. We have been customers for Hiro 88 since they opened in Omaha... and later on... in the Lincoln Haymarket. Food is amazing and never had any complaints in the other locations. This weekend we visited the newest location- South Lincoln, and the experience wasn't pleasant. We had reservations for the party room, but our group wouldn't be sat until the half of the people had been arrived. They explained this is policy... but the place was empty and wasn't the high peak for dinner. Our waitress was great. The drinks and food as other Hiro 88 restaurants... excellent! Some minutes after we paid, the floor manager came to our table. She asked who made the reservation... instead talking with the person in private... she shared with the entire party that we have to release table for other guests. And reminded us that they were holding the table for more than 3 hours. I guess the food and drinks we consumed and the fatty bill were not enough to "hold" a table. She offered to move our party to the bar... which at that time was pretty busy. One star on customer service! I won't come to this location ever again. read more
