I found myself over at Bellevue for dinner, 2 hours before my hockey game. I wanted quality food…read morebut not super carb heavy but also not something that could potentially wreck my stomach. After all, can you imagine having digestive problems while playing hockey? I love barbecue so I thought I'd try this place. I walked in and it wasn't at all busy at 5:32. However when I finished my order, the line was out the door. I asked the cashier what was good and the manager (maybe owner) walked over and I asked him. I wanted ribs or brisket, but needed a 2nd opinion. He said he would choose brisket because theirs is USDA Prime and he would put it against any other barbecue restaurant in Tennessee. Those are some bold words. So I ordered the brisket platter (fatty portion) with green beans and cinnamon baked apples. What I received was 3 good sized portions (1/2 pound) of fatty brisket. The meat was tender, melt in your mouth without an overbearing amount of fat clumped together. The bark was salty and very peppery. It was actually good enough to eat without a sauce. Speaking of, there was only one sauce on the table, so I used that. It was a sweet sauce, definitely honey-based but not overly sweet like other honey-based sauces I've had in the past. The thing is I love everything honey-related, so I would definitely buy this to take home. It was so good, I was scavenging for brisket fibers on my plate. So I praised the brisket but I think the shocker was the green beans. These were hands down, the best green beans I've ever had...ever. Salty, tender, peppery, with chunks of meat and fat, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. Who would have thought that a side could be that good? Last but not least, the Cinnamon Baked Apples. I love baked/fried apples. Something about the tart and sweetness brings me back every time. The apples were soft, but not mushy. I would have liked them to be a little more tender and more slices of apples. I think there was more sauce than apples but nevertheless, they were great. Overall I'm glad I visited Honeyfire for the first time. I'm here often (near Bellevue) so I'll definitely be coming back again and again.

I know that's obnoxious to write but in my head I am still breaking news, not piling on. In any event, there's a reason why so many people have such good things to say about F&F. They're the real deal. Unlike many food trucks in Nashville, F&F advertised their location. So, on an unusually warm Friday night in late winter, I decided to venture over to Elmington Park and treat myself. Despite my best efforts, I arrived close to their closing time. I was afraid I was out of luck for this artisan goodness but the nice lady in the truck smiled at me, took my order and had me wait for what they were whipping up. As the sun set, I hung out in my car and waited for the electric buzz of happiness. After an appropriate wait, I buzzed, picked up my grub and headed home. Because I'm fancy, I poured myself a glass of cabernet sauvignon. Because I'm not classy, I left the pizza in the box rather than put it on a plate. At first appearance, my bbbq chicken pizza wasn't that large. This isn't a large meat-lover's from Domino's. This is artisan pie. The crust was fluffy, interesting in texture and flavorful (on its own) in taste. The pie, while small, was packed with flavor. I could tell these were choice ingredients I was eating. It was a bbq pizza so that means a bbq sauce base -- but to the bbq, cilantro was a present (not dominant) ingredient. It made each bite unique. This was not your usual bbq chicken pizza. Atop the sauce was a gouda/mozzarella blend that perfectly suited the sauce. Honestly, the pizza would have been good just like that. The marinated chicken (seasoned, not dry), bacon and onions added to the new spin on an old favorite. I enjoyed every bite. The fatty inside me wanted more but I can understand the restraint inherent within 'artisan.' That said, I wouldn't turn down a bigger pie. Like I said: classy.

You will not find queso, fajitas, or any of the hallmarks of Americanized Tex-Mex here. This spot is for people truly searching for authenticity, which Taqueria Azteca has in spades. I eventually found the English menu and ordered a few things I feel like I don't often see: two sopes (one pollo, one tinga) and a pollo gordita. Just regular water to drink. The whole meal came to about $13 and they take Apple Pay, which was a win. The inside is small and it seems popular to get food to go, but I decided to sit and eat. My food came out fresh, made to order, in about 10 minutes, and I had my pick of three homemade salsas. The red and the darker green were both too spicy for my weakling tastebuds, but the light green was perfect and I put it all over everything. The tinga was my favorite of the two meats, juicy and incredibly flavorful. The regular pollo was a bit dry and not that flavorful on its own, though the salsa fixed it. Both the sope and the gordita came loaded with refried beans, lettuce, sour cream, pico, onions, and cilantro. Truly needed a fork to get through all the messy deliciousness. Three items turned out to be slightly more food than I could handle, but man were they delicious. I'd love to come back next time I'm in the area!
