Much to my surprise, they said they could work me in and asked if I wanted to leave the car. Since I rely on my vehicle, I readily agreed. They called me not too long after to tell me that my clutch was kaput. Ouch. They gave me an estimate and I said I had to check to see if I could pull the money together for the repairs. As it turned out, I could and they went to work. They essentially had the work completed *and* threw in a diagnosis of another problem the vehicle has and added a quote for that work... and also did an oil and air filter change. And they were under budget for what they quoted me. I have always been treated fairly at Trottner's -- some other places will try to "put one over" on a woman who goes in by herself, but not this place. They are honest, they are fair and in this case, they were VERY prompt in taking care of the issue... even though I arrived unexpectedly. I feel like they may be a tad more expensive than other places (I haven't done the research to confirm that though!), but if they are, it's 100% worth knowing that I'm not going to be taken for unnecessary repairs -- and that, to me, is worth its weight in gold!

So I don't usually write reviews, but I feel it is necessary in this case…read more I originally had my car towed to Joe's Automotive as my car battery was drained(0.01V display from multimeter), I recently just installed a new alternator, brand new terminals/connectors for the battery, and a remanufactured starter. All the attempts to start had drained what charge was left from the battery, and I suspected the starter was bad and possibly draining the battery. To their credit they got the car started, but the only change was slightly different cable angle on the starter & alternator, and severely damaged battery terminals that look like they have been smashed in with a hammer, and tightened so tight that they can no longer be removed. I took before and after photos of the engine, and these are the only things that were altered, so I can only determine that they charged my battery successfully and slightly changed the angle of the battery connections, and then smashed in my terminals so they could no longer be removed. I was then charged $280 for this privilege. The only saving grace was that they also confirmed the starter was bad, which I thought was the case anyway, and once I swapped out and reinstalled a new starter it functions properly. (The starter ended up melting the testing device used at the location I bought the starter...) TLDR: They recharged my battery, shifted cable placement, smashed in my battery terminals so they are now permanent battery fixtures, and charged me almost $300 for that amazing service... Edit for owner response: Which specific wire are you claiming to have melted? There are only three wires/cables that connect to the starter, the positive battery cable, the starter solenoid wire, and the negative battery cable to ground. None of which were replaced OR melted. Do you have any pictures of these melted mystery wires? The bolts were also not tightened to the point that the report claimed, as my wireless ratchet wrench is not physically capable of tightening them to that degree, as it automatically stops when it meets resistance. It cannot overtighten things. The alternator was also installed correctly, there are only two connections to the alternator and both were fully connected and in the same locations before and after pickup. "would never damage parts of the vehicle to get things back on." My mangled battery terminals beg to differ, as my attached pictures can attest. They were brand new and installed that same day actually, not a scratch on them until they were brought to you guys. The damage didn't just magically appear on its own.

This…read moretrip is a major, loaded down with expedition; Ram 3500 diesel truck with a camper shell, towing 6000 pounds of boat on a tandem axle trailer - tons of gear and tools inside both, plus me and two dogs. Pure fate and luck that I happened to pull over to inspect an unusual noise/vibration for the second time and I was within eyesight of Martin's shop. Unable to identify the problem, I continued another mile or two down the road, again pulling over because something was just not right. Finally it dawned on me what the trouble most likely was, since I had experienced similar symptoms once before manny years ago. I crawled underneath the truck and verified that the rear axle driveshaft center support bearing (carrier bearing) was absolutely wrecked! The 2 piece driveshaft was slamming around inside a metal hoop that was the frame around the bearing- all internal parts gone. Had I continued driving substantially, eventually the driveshaft would have failed, with result ranging from stranded on the roadside to a catastrophic accident. I need to set the scene a little bit; this location is on the Guide Meridian, a busy thoroughfare that runs from Bellingham, one of Washington's substantial cities outside of the Seattle-Tacoma area. The road goes to British Columbia, and in between is mostly rural farm land, but the road itself is scattered with various businesses and homes. But there's not much around, including choices for automotive services. I pulled a uturn and went to Martin's, just on a hunch that it was meant to be. The owner, RC, crawled under the truck and agreed with my diagnosis. This is 2:00 pm on a Thursday afternoon and the shop closes at 5:00. Within a few minutes, the parts were ordered and delivered to the shop. The owner says there's no way he can get to my vehicle due to other customers ahead of me and have it done in the same business day. But he does tell me that he will come back after hours and begin the job, and most likely the truck will be close to ready when he opens at 8 o'clock the next morning. he gave me significant confidence that I would be able to resume my journey the next day. So there I was with two dogs, all my stuff, and no place to stay. I found a hotel nearby which was suitable and the shop loaned me a car. I end up having everything I needed to be comfortable, including wonderful hospitality from the shop owner, and his wife. My plan was to call the shop at eight in the morning. But as I ate my breakfast in the hotel lobby, I decided to wait a few minutes, so it's not to appear too anxious. I happen to glance at my phone and noticed a message from RC the shop owner Had come in between 730 and eight I just had not noticed it. It indicated my truck was ready and I should come to the shop. When I got there, the truck was all set to go and backed up to my boat trailer ready to be hitched. Overnight I had looked up the likely parts cost and tried to estimate the number of hours of labor required for the job. Let's just say Martin's Automtive charges were fair and more or less what I expected. I was in a circumstance where I could've easily been taken advantage of by less than scrupulous shop. And it could have side-lined me for days instead of hours. I feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon Martin's Automotive. My experience there was 5 star-plus. I took my beloved 2017 Ram 3500 to Barrett based on reading their reviews. The truck had 830,000…read moremiles on it when they serviced the Aisin Transmission, which is the original and never rebuilt. I noticed when I picked the truck up that the water and fuel light was on and I thought that was a strange coincidence. Over the years this light has come on two or three times after a car wash, and it's an easy fix to clean out the water in the sensor connection. I did that and even replaced the sensor in the rear fuel water separator. The light was still on, even though the fuel looked clean, so I ended up taking it to a shop in Oak Harbor before driving to the Tetons, as that light was bothering me. It turns out the technician at Barrett had inadvertently pinched some wires that ran along the crossmember below the transmission mount when he reattached the cross number. Thus the cause of the water and fuel light. Barrett was extremely honorable and covered the cost of those wire repairs, and the shops diagnostic fee. So the only thing I was out was the cost of a water and fuel sensor and time. At the time of this post, the truck has nearly 832,000 miles as I just did a trip to Teton Valley and back to Washington and the transmission ran beautifully. The service work the technician did was otherwise perfect and this type of mistake could happen to anyone, so I do not fault Barrett and I would gladly use them again and intend to. The fact that they honored this situation without question is an indication of a shop that has integrity.

They repaired/reconditioned my Prius Hybrid battery about 23 months ago, but a few weeks ago, the dreaded trifecta of warning lights and fault codes reappeared, letting me know that the computer believed that the battery was kaput once again. For cryin' out loud, the whole car only has 460,000 miles on it -- I am determined to get it to 500k! I took it back to Unlimited Service, and they told me that because I was just within my 2 year warranty, they would take it apart and fix it for free (at least all of the components they had worked on, 23 months ago). I did not know that I had a 2 year warranty (I thought it was more along the lines of 90 days or $90). They had to remove and disassemble the battery again, replace some cells, and rebalance things - no trivial task. That was all covered by the warranty (yay)! These folks are top notch, and ill come back for other servicing needs as they arise

I had my vehicle over there somewhere between 8:30 and 9:00 AM PDT. The needed work and necessary repairs were completed by 6:00 PM. Even though the shop closes at 5:00 PM, this one extra hour shows dedication and diligence on the part of Rising Sun. I feel confident now that I will be able to get through this Autumn and WINTER without any automotive difficulties.

It was a Friday. As soon as he tried shifting (without needing to actually test drive), he immediately diagnosed a bad clutch pilot bearing. He then quickly checked the brakes -- also needing replacement in the rear. He offered to work on it right away and have it finished by the next afternoon! Wow. Most shops require weeks to schedule an appointment and require leaving the car in the early morning for whenever they might have time to get to it. Kai also provided a lender car. Sure enough, on Saturday afternoon, we picked up the car. The price verbally quoted (no need to sign paper authorizations as in other shops) was spot on, no surprises. He completed the work expertly, replacing the clutch disc, pressure plate, bearings, and resurfacing the flywheel, as well as replacing the rear brakes. This is now my go-to shop for both my vehicles!

I can't say enough good things about Armstrong Family Autocare without sounding like a paid…read morepromoter or something, but believe me, this was an OUTSTANDING car repair experience!! Be honest: how many mechanics have you dealt with who actually aim to reduce the cost of the service?! Alex did!! My old '99 Voyager was acting wonky; it would start but then some components would work while others wouldn't.. one day the windows operated, but the wipers or heater fan wouldn't; the next day NONE of them worked; the next day they all worked fine.. and so on and so on Got a brand new top-of-the-line Napa battery.. didn't help .. so then I had the alternator tested by 3 different places who all said it had a bad diode, so I reached out to a few companies here, got quotes, and Armstrong's was the most reasonable price (plus nearby my place) so I brought the Voyager in, crossing my fingers that some unknown -expensive- additional work wouldn't be urged on me, as I've frequently experienced with other repairs Long story short, Alex told me it actually wasn't the alternator being bad, it was the ignition switch, and I gotta be honest and say I was hugely skeptical because the other companies had advised me to get a new alternator, why would they recommend it if it wasn't the problem? ...but I decided to trust Alex, and the repair cost was literally HALF the cost of replacing the alternator (which was already a very reasonable price!) But this morning was the iron test: would everything work like it did when I picked up my vehicle? IT SURE DID --the wipers, the windows, the heater fan ALL WORKED AT THE SAME TIME!! That hasn't happened in forever! LOL This review is getting long but I wanted to share the deets because frankly, given the symptoms, the tests AND my belief in the test results... Alex could have very easily done the cheaper ignition repair but said nothing and charged for the more expensive alternator replacement that I was asking for -and I wouldn't have known the difference and would've just been happy to have things working- but he was honest and upfront and didn't take advantage of my ignorance.. like other shops around here have done or tried to do to me in the past How awesome is THAT?!
