So I've been weighing up whether to give this a 3 star or a 4... Hintlesham Hall Hotel is about an hour and 15mins out of London, in beautiful Suffolk. My dad lives close by and I thought I'd take him to lunch for his birthday.
The grounds are stunning, and you are able to wander around them at your leisure.
We ate in The Parlour, a decadent room full of history, and chose the three course set menu. Decent amount of choices each course for under £30. The wine list is comprehensive... It took a long time to decide but we went for a red from the "current recommendations" page.
I chose the chill grilled prawns, with coriander polenta to start, and the roasted hoi sin pork with sesame bok choi for main. Can you tell I like my asian dishes?!
Well, it was well presented, hot, nice... But there's that word "nice".
I couldn't see or taste any coriander in my polenta... There was hardly a kick in my chilli prawns. My hoi sin sauce was lacking oomph, and I think I might have had two or three sesame seeds sprinkled over the veg.
For dessert I chose the coconut parfait with caramelised pineapple. Couldn't taste a shred of coconut! Again, it was nice, but please Hintlesham, be brave with your flavours! read more
