Lovely cafe with an almost Nordic sense of design. They have the Brooklyn-standard offerings of matcha, chia seed pudding, and turmeric lattes, along with your usual espresso beverages. Prices are on the high side but not ridiculous. We had a juice and a bottled tea after our visit to the Horta Museum as it was a bit late in the day for coffee. We wanted a snack as well but the kitchen closes down in the evening, so come for brunch instead. The staff was really nice. It was a pleasant way to pass an hour in the evening; sad we missed the food here. read more

We chose Hinterland because it was across the street from our hotel. What a happy surprise. If you enjoy black coffee this place has delicious coffee. No doctoring needed. We ordered eggs and bacon, eggs and avocado, spelt and jam(s), French toast, and raspberry pancakes. No complaints on any of it. In fact, all of them are a must if you visit. If you are flying solo you need to make multiple visits. The atmosphere is bright and studious. There were several people working on laptops. The place is small, but not annoying. It makes Starbucks the equivalent to a truck stop. LoL. If you disagree I ask you to look at your size 48 waistline and ask yourself is Starbucks is doing right by you. read more

I love this place! It reminds me a lot of places I used to frequent in Brooklyn- clean and creative design mixed with interesting features like exposed brick. The coffee is good, and so are the smoothies! Haven't tried any of the snacks yet. I've been here twice and both times the staff were extremely friendly, none of that pretentious hipster attitude I was used to at places like it. :) A great place to meet a friend or do some writing/work on the computer. read more

One star is generous. Walked into this place after taking the tram here. Said bonjour. Was not greeted in return. Waited while seemingly overwhelmed staff packed up a to go order for a patron who walked in after I did. Waited patiently. Finally, they seem ready to take my order. As I begin to order from the menu which is in French and English, the waitress informs me that they don't have any of the egg dishes, açaí bowls, Buddha bowls and a few other items. She points to 2-3 things remaining on the menu as "available." It's 12:45pm in a Sunday. How does a brunch place run out of eggs 3+ hours before closing? Maybe run to the market down the street and buy some eggs? Looked around the restaurant, every ones dishes had eggs. Whether they freshly ran out of eggs, which is insane, or they didn't want to serve English speaking patrons, it is unclear. Had a lovely brunch at Jat, a few steps away. read more

I went to the opening evening of Hinterland and these young entrepreneurs definitely made a good impression on me. There was people standing all over the curb and the queue was pretty big. That being said, everyone was on their best behaviour for the opening and the place, even though bare, looked very fresh and inviting. I don't wanna use the word hipster, because nowadays everyone that tries to do something different is a hipster and I disagree with that. I always love it when you'd people start a business and try to make the best of it. I tried some cocktails and had a few Belgian beers and they also had samplers of the food they would be serving. Soup was excellent, popcorn, awesome, hummus was really fantastic. All in all a great night. Keep it up, hinterland! Will visit again soon. read more

Lovely place to have brunch or lunch, especially for sitting outside during summertime. Fast service and yummy food. The coffee is excellent and the toasts and cakes incredibly tasty. Excellent presentation is a plus. That said, I find that some menu items are a bit overpriced (e.g. acai bowl). All in all, a must-visit place in the always busy Chaussee de Charleroi. read more

I have been there a few times in the afternoon. The brightness of the place attracted me in the first place, thanks to the large windows, and the name "Hinterland, Urban refuge". A very simple decoration, reminding the Scandinavian design, pure and cosy at the same time. For so far, I have only tasted their coffees, but they tasted great! And another plus point, it's the music. It seems they feel what the customers would like to hear. And there are some plugs in case you might need to wander on your laptop. While the coffee and the cookies/cakes are good, the service is not the best. They are very very slow and at times even rude. May be it was my luck to have the same waitress three times in a row and everytime there was always something wrong. I am not sure I want to go there again, there are a lot of places offering great coffies and much better service in the neighbourhood. read more

We stumbled upon this place when the coffee shop that was highly recommended on Yelp was not open yet- honestly, who waits until 11 AM to get coffee? We had just gotten croissants from so we did not order food. Both the flat white and Americano we ordered were excellent. Hinterland, je l'aime bien depuis ses débuts. C'est vrai quoi, de jeunes créatifs qui sont venus un peu secouer la scène bruxelloise du breakfast et du lunch avec un concept trendy, à mi-chemin entre Berlin et Portland, avec une approche très design, on ne peut qu'être enthousiastes. C'est bien fichu et stylé : scandinave mais plus poussé que les autres. Tons clairs, bois blonds, murs briqués effet patiné, rondins de bois, photo de nature sauvage, et des petits "écarts" bienvenus : le carreau-céramique au sol ou le grand néon au mur. Total look, et on y ajoute les quelques magazines lifestyle et design pour être raccord. Et les étudiants en design ou artistes qui arrivent en fringue vintage pour déguster un soy matcha latte ne s'y sont pas trompés Le piège est qu'au début, le cadre était en fait le gros point fort d'Hinterland. La proposition food était correcte mais méritait de s'étoffer et la qualité du café ne suivait pas. Etonnant pour un lieu estampillé "coffee bar" jusque sur la vitrine. Comme si on avait voulu mettre la charrue avant les boeufs, ou le design avant l'espresso masterclass... Côté assiette, on a désormais une jolie carte, entre sandwichs du jour frais, goûtus, et inventifs, pancakes aux fruits rouges sympathiques (même si parfois hors saison), acaï bowls ou pain perdu satisfaisant, sans plus. Ainsi que de bonnes pâtisseries maison. Maintenant, côté café, ça reste un peu limite pour les palais pointus qui recherche le specialty coffee, dans une scène bruxelloise qui commence à légèrement s'étoffer. Gageons que leur nouvelle recrue très sympathique en droite ligne de Vancouver va élever la qualité... En ce qui me concerne, je continue pour l'instant d'aller chez Hinterland pour casser la croûte et apprécier le cadre, mais je prends ensuite mon café au Parlor... Super cute cafe, with golden milk and matcha lattes. Healthy options and cakes too. They have wifi here and have cool music if you are a fan of the cure. Very chilled out and a cool place to hang if you need to kill some time. read more
