The house offered a home environment. There are two visitors allowed at a time in the room with the resident, and another two are allowed to wait in the living room areas. There is also a spacious backyard with tables and benches to rest. The volunteers also keep a stocked coffee bar and fresh baked cookies for family members. The house is so peaceful and quiet. A music therapist even came by to play guitar and sing. She sang a song in Spanish for my grandma. I was never aware that facilities like this existed and am so grateful for the compassionate care that the nurses, volunteers and music therapist provided.

There's comfortable chairs and couches. We had 3 nurses who were kind enough, gentle to an extent, and caring. I wish I got their names. However, Sue was the most appallingly abrasive, verbally abusive, insensitive nurse I've ever experienced, and I'm a nurse myself. I've never received care or witnessed care as careless and cold as Sue, and that's not even in hospice. And, in hospice, the nurses are known to be extra special, extra caring, extra soothing and gentle. Comforting, reassuring, soft. This woman will forever taint the memory of my dad's last 3 days. Fortunately, there are many positives with Hinds, and I'll try to focus on that, but Sue was so awful, it'll forever stand out in my mind. She fought us when we requested comfort meds. She downright refused sometimes. The very first time we met her, it was 3pm, nobody was sharing the room with my dad. And 4 of us were at my dying father's side. The moment she got on her shift, she started aggressively kicking us all out, in the middle of us praying and crying. It was terrifying. When I asked to speak with a doctor who had agreed to meds every 2 hours, Sue fought back and refused to give the meds until every 4 hours. This is hospice. This isn't palliative. The only goal is comfort. My father had the death rattle and she fought me hard. When she finally agreed to give him a comfort med, she dramatically crushed the med and said "you're forcing me". It was scary and appalling. There's more, but I'll leave it at that. The volunteers were so welcoming, so gentle and perceptive. The 3 other nurses who's names I can't remember were exponentially more kind, and one held and hugged me when my dad took his last breaths. The rooms themselves were comfortable. We were able to dim the lights. They offered a chaplain.

When we asked which resident she was visiting, she would reply bluntly with "a patient," and has to be asked multiple times before giving the name. Her expressions and overall demeanor is cold and give the impression that she's bothered by having to speak with staff. She has also stood staring rudely at staff who were on the phone with a family member until someone stopped what they were doing to assist her. Her attitude is unprofessional, especially for someone working in hospice as a social worker where respectful communication is important. I hope St. Mary's addresses this and encourages her to interact with staff and her patients with more courtesy.

They supplied us with everything we needed and it all came on same day when asked for. They provided a hospital bed, oxygen tanks and machine, adult diapers, pads, wipes, Ensure and all the medications. Our comfort care provider Alexandra ( Alex ) was outstanding, she came by 3 times a week to bath, shave, change sheets, pads and diapers. Her advise we really appreciated. The good thing about Oyuna is that when you call for help you get a experienced Nurse that answers not an answering service. We had bad experiences in the past with 2 other hospice services that weren't there when we needed them so we were hesitant to try it again. I'm glad we found Oyuna Hospice, they totally restored our faith back in Hospice care. Thank you, Oyuna Hospice.

I was able to prepare her meals in the kitchen, and our family gathered in the great room. They did everything in their power to help us through. My sister's pain was controlled and we were all supported. This is a super place!
