The food is outstanding. Each dish is clearly prepared with care and authentic ingredients. The flavors are rich and well balanced--perfectly spiced without overwhelming the palate. The momos (Himalayan dumplings) are especially memorable, and the curries are deeply flavorful with tender meats and fresh vegetables. Their naan and rice dishes complement everything perfectly. What really makes Himalayan Yak stand out is the authenticity. The menu offers a wonderful mix of Nepalese, Tibetan, and Indian dishes that you don't find everywhere. It's a great place both for people who already love Indian and Himalayan cuisine and for anyone looking to try something new. Overall, Himalayan Yak is a fantastic dining experience. Delicious food, generous portions, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere make it a place you will want to return to again and again. If you are in Milwaukee and enjoy flavorful, authentic cuisine, Himalayan Yak is absolutely worth visiting. PS, You can share one meal and still have leftovers...

Just one of the plates that I enjoyed!

I finally made it to Himalayan Yak's lunch buffet and it was spectacular! My friend and I enjoyed sampling a wide variety of Indian / Nepalese cuisine and thought the complimentary chai tea was a great touch. They had a great spread of meat and vegetarian dishes and was well worth our time and money. I got their chili chicken take out to bring home and that was a hit as well. I hope to be back soon!

Great lunch buffet right at lunchtime and it was not busy. The food was so good I had to go for a second plate. It's a buffet so it's unlimited at a flat rate and comes with a drink. This place is cozy, you can feel like st home with home cooked food and friendly staff. Make sure to use clean plates every visit. Tou can tell they definitely put a lot of soul into making their food. My favorite is the chicken tikka masala with the creamy sauce. I drank water since I don't drink regular soda. I didn't ask if they had soda water, that would have been my go to. I like how they were mindful in considering people's dietary preferences and put labels under the food indicating which ones are gluten free, vegan, non dairy, etc. Would definitely come back!

We came here tonight as a large group and everything went well! The appetizers were very tasty, we ordered a variety plate and a beef jerky plate. We also enjoyed tasting the complimentary chips and dips. All were delicious and easy to share with a group. Service was very attentive and friendly. We all enjoyed our entrees and loved the bowls of delicious rice.

Another tasty Asian place; get your sherpa and visit! Himalayan Yak has Nepali and Indian dishes, classics like briyani, butter chicken, tikka masala, but also less common: thukpa and palak. Everyone's food was very good. We got the tikka masala, vindaloo, Himalayan mix grill, and a mix. The portion sizes and costs were also very reasonable. I'm excited to try the buffet. We got the assorted app 2 samosas and 8 pakoras. The samosas were packed and had to good sauces. I wished it was under the boiler for an extra minute. The pakoras were basically deep fried veggie things, odd looking but very tasty. After we sat down the place filled up. We didn't get checked on. There was no water until we flagged the person down. It took a long while to get the bill as well. There was only one person.

OK, so I've only been here so far once before but when I was here, it was absolutely phenomenal. So I showed up on a somewhat strange day it was just a couple of days before Thanksgiving. The place wasn't incredibly full and we arrived around dinner time there seemed to be a bunch of takeout orders that were happening and I had to give it up to the fact that a lot of people were traveling and influx due to the holiday. We immediately took our seats and started looking at the menu. We ended up doing one of the giant non-vegetarian dinner sets - chicken tandoori, chicken curry, garlic nan and more. The server was very nice and then made sure to ask for all of our specifics for the selections on what we were ordering and that we wanted it with medium spice. The service was nicely paced and the flavors were incredible. It was just the right amount of heat and richness that I would have wanted. Loved the rice and we had plenty of leftovers (which tasted just as good the next day for lunch!) We also got an addition of the Gobi Manchurian. The cauliflower, deep-fried and tossed in a sweet manchurian sauce was so yummy and I would definitely order again - It kind of even has a tiny bit of a vibe of general tso type flavoring so if you're new to Indian food but like that taste - it's a win! I have to imagine that their lunch buffet is out of this world and probably hoppin' to the brim full of people. I hope a lot more people notice at this place is open. It's new less than a year and it's a great time to support them and the food is stellar.

I am SO excited that this place opened up buffet style but also with a menu but I love a good Indian buffet. With your meal you also get a drink so I got the chai like hot tea. Everything on the buffet was delicious. There were the typical crowd favorites like palak paneer, butter chicken, mutton, papadom, rice, etc. Nothing was greasy. Great place!

Oh my gosh!!! What a delicious surprise! Himalayan Yak is bound for success- the food is simply too good for people not to try it. We ordered take out, and it was ready within 45 minutes, everything was hot and ready by the time I picked it up. We couldn't decide on what to get, so we just got a plethora of things. We ordered the Chili Momo, the Wings, veggie samosas, the assorted bread, chicken tika masala, and the sahi karmo. The chili momo was abolsutely delicious! I will be ordering this every single time we order from here. Everything else we got was also delicious, but those were the star of the dinner. I ordered everything as a medium spice level 1- which was perfect for me. Just enough heat to still get all the flavor. Whether you eat in, or order take out- you should give this new Bayview restaurant some love!

Amazing family owned hole in the wall joint with authentic dishes. I was walking past this place and saw that it opened recently and had to go in. They serve a lunch buffet (which I will be trying after visiting) and dinner. The food was very authentic and there were items on the menu I had never tried. Know that the spice levels are serious, so order to what you can handle. The service was friendly but a little slow, but we also went on a Saturday night. Overall, a great addition to the neighborhood and I will be adding it to the rotation of favorite restaurants in the area.

I'm a huge fan of veggie momocha. Since college I've been addicted and my favorite have always been Himal Chuli in Madison. I've loved some in wine country in California and in Bloomington, IN. I've enjoyed other dishes a lot from the cheel, but their momocha weren't my style. No others in Wisconsin have quite hit it. At Himalayan Yak, I've found a new local favorite - their veggie momo are on the spicy side, but the flavors are multi-layered and complex. We visited at 3 on a Saturday, shortly after the lunch buffet ended. We had the place mainly to ourselves as a consequence. The space is large and bright and open. Service was great. BF enjoyed his Sahi Korma from the Indian menu. It rivaled any place in town for lamb. My mother enjoyed her Madras, coconut lamb curry as well, but found it a little salty. We're salt forward people, but I'd agree that all the dishes were on the edge of being over salted. We all ordered our dishes medium hot, which was plenty for me - not too hot, but it built up over time. There could have been more rice - we all had left over curry to bring home. I had the Chyau Ko Tarkari from the Nepalese part of the menu and it was amazing - nuanced and multi-layered and all the vegetables still had great texture. Amazing mushroom curry. We ordered Poori - light, puffy and excellent. Mom had a salt lassi. There are non-alcoholic drinks on offer as well as wine and beer. I will be getting those veggie momo often and enthusiastically. Try this place!

Very excited to have another Himalayan restaurant in Milwaukee , especially after losing the Cheel. I realized after we were there looking at the menu that the food seems to be a combination of Indian, Nepalese, and some Chinese influence as well. Very unique and exciting to have! While the food was excellent (which is why I ended up doing a 4 star review even though I was leaning towards 3) I have mixed feelings about our experience and I hope this new spot can iron out the kinks which is why I'll give a very thorough review. The food was super tasty. We ordered the non-vegetarian dinner set which was more than enough food for 2 people- comes with "samplers" of 3 entrees (bigger than a sample size in my opinion! Generous portion), an appetizer, and dessert! Plus I really wanted to try the fried cauliflower based on the rave reviews so we got that too. For the dinner set we got meat samosas, chicken curry, chicken korma, chicken tandoori, and rice pudding. We did order garlic naan with it also but realized after we left that we never got it. My favorite dishes were the fried cauliflower and the chicken korma. The korma has a nice flavorful gravy like texture, great with naan dipped it (I had naan at home with my leftovers). The cauliflower was very good but I was disappointed that they used frozen cauliflower instead of fresh, which makes it a little soggy. Also, although the sauce was delicious- like a thick sweet and sour sauce but with a kick-it was a LOT of sauce. We were too excited about the rice pudding to get a pic but it was also very good. My friend also ordered a chai and said it was very good. Service was a little awkward. We arrived, and had a reservation (which wasn't necessary- the restaurant was only half full), but the host seemed bewildered by our presence, and looked around like there was nowhere to seat us. He then pointed to a door which leads to a connected building, where we walked in and chose a table, thinking he was behind us with menus, but we waited about 10 minutes until someone showed up with menus and water. We didn't really care- I was there catching up with a friend- but this could have been very frustrating. The service was generally very slow. I'm not sure if they were understaffed, they seemed a little overwhelmed. Also, originally we ordered a vegetable dish and were told that they were "out of vegetables" ? But I was able to order the fried cauliflower so not sure which veggies they were out of. It was fine in the end, our food was great, just an odd thing to say/happen and hopefully a one off situation. The other area that is lacking is the ambience and unfortunately this was the worst part of the experience. I'm not sure how new this restaurant is but the area we sat it seemed like it was still under renovation- there was a large box of junk on the table behind us and what looked like an abandoned bar. The main area when you first walk in to the restaurant is better. Also the lighting is very bright and harsh. Would not recommend for a date night. However, I saw that they do lunch buffet and I would love to try that. Also have to point out that I thought the prices were extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served. In short, if you are here for the food and don't care about vibes, don't think twice, come try this spot out, you won't be disappointed.

this place had such great food! fusion of indian and nepali, i was familiar w a lot of the indian dishes and liked the uniqueness of some of them because of the nepali influence. the music was so nice to listen to and was something ive never head of before. the food did not disappoint. we got all vegan dishes and they all had their own unique flavors! the red cauliflower one was my favorite! they were nice and tender with a slight chewiness and the flavor of that curry was amazing! mushroom curry was tasty too, i enjoyed the chewiness of the mushrooms! im not a fan of lentils, but my partner enjoyed it and when i tried it, i definitely appreciated the flavor!! would definitely come back to try more of their menu! the staff was great and checked on us often! a must try for sure :)

I went back today and was honestly so upset because my go-to dish, the paneer makhini, was nothing like it used to be. It literally just tasted like straight cream. I even asked them to remake it because I thought something was wrong, but it came out the same way. I ended up just eating the other food we ordered, but it was such a disappointment because this has always been the dish I look forward to. I even showed them old photos from past visits compared to today and it was clearly different. The chef tried it and said it was the same, which shocked me because it really wasn't. I get that places can have off days, but this was really discouraging. As much as I've loved this restaurant, I don't know if I'll be back if the quality has dropped this much.

Our order included: cocktail samosas, palak paneer, baigan bharta, and the chicken tikka masala. The meal comes with three naan and rice on the side, as well as a dessert. We went with the gulab jamun. I also wanted an order of soup momos, so we added that onto our already robust order as well. (They didn't disappoint, so delicious.) Everything was well-balanced and spiced. I especially love that we were able to split the portions across multiple meals given how generous the naan was. The most beloved item was definitely the momos in the spicy/sour soup, followed by the buttery naan dipped in chicken tikka masala. I also really enjoyed the baigan bharta. So very enjoyed this meal, and I can't wait to try some of the other menu items that other diners have recommended.
