We tried something completely new for us today -- takeout from Himalayan Kitchen -- an Indian and Nepalese restaurant. Normally when we've eaten Indian food, it's been when someone has ordered it. Today we winged it and it was absolutely fantastic! We went a little overboard trying things and it was really excellent. The standouts were the Chana Masala and the Shrimp Korma (photo missing). We also ordered Veggie Biriyani, Naan, Roti, Papadums, and Raita. We're definitely going to go back! Our only quibble was they had wonderful looking chai in a self serve area. We'd have loved the ability to order that for our takeout. We asked and they said they didn't have any takeout cups. We hope they add this.

The food here is incredible ! I was so pleasantly surprised. Very fresh and DELICIOUS. Can't wait to go back. Super clean, super friendly service. This is now one of my favorite restaurants in Rochester for food and flavor .

Food is amazing! The atmosphere is quiet and full of spices. We got the veggie spring rolls and Biryani dishes. We are definitely coming back here! Service is spot on and polite.

Food was so fresh, delicious, and so much variety. We needed a restaurant like this is Webster. We will be back soon!

This review is for the buffet thus I cannot attest to the a la carte options. Pro: unlimited chai. Con: somewhat small selection of menu for which the food was not particularly memorable, mostly oily. Service was otherwise ok. for those not exposed much to Nepali/Indian food, a good option to pique your tastebuds. For those experienced with Nepali-Indian, quite watered in flavor, too and too much sugar in their savory dishes. Chai: the only good thing amongst their dishes to be honest. Would rather spend my buffet money sitting here drinking this for 2 hours reading a book and just skip the meal. The butter chicken had too much sugar. This seems to be a trend across the US in American-Indian buffets catering to the American taste buds. This was disappointing but at least the sauce was fun to dip for your naan. Chick pea dish- a curry like dish with bell pepper undertows. Fried fish dish- think a fish fry with some veggies. Definitely a heavier dish. Fried rice- an ok dish as well. Would recommend Indian buffets towards Henrietta for better culinary experience

I got the Chicken 65 and my wife got the Chicken Tikka Masala. We also got an order of the Nepalese noodles with Chicken to share and some Aloo Paratha and Garlic Naan. Everything was fantastic! The menu is a good mix of Indian, Nepalese and Chinese style dishes. The waiter asked about our spice tolerance and everything was made to order to match what we liked for heat. The atmosphere was laid back and everyone was friendly. I think one of the folks working the floor was the owner, or maybe owners daughter and she was really nice. I'm looking forward to warming up some leftovers tomorrow and we will definitely go back.

Putting in a couple appetizers, we opted in for the kibbeh, baba ghanouj, and manakeesh (za'atar w. cheese). The kibbeh was seasoned and fried perfectly. The baba ghanouj was creamy and accompanied with a very nice and airy pita bread, and the manakeesh was wonderful. It reminded me of a sauceless cheese pizza with the middle eastern spices. For mains, we opted in for the Mashawi which included a trio of meats. Kofta, beef kabob and chicken. All three meats were nicely seasoned, but the star meat for us was the kofta. The side of hummus was nice, and the salad was nicely seasoned even before pouring the dressing over it. Also opting in for the lamb chops, I found these to be perfectly grilled and incredibly tender. These were grilled closer to a medium-well, but still remained juicy and packed full of flavor. We found our server and the kitchen employee (perhaps the owner) to be pleasant and full of hospitality. This small-from-the-outside restaurant blew us away and we enjoyed everything we had. We look forward to returning in the near future to try other items on their menu.

I craved Indian food, while on vacation in Rochester, New York and found this 4.5 star location…read more What a disappointment! My first impression once inside was there were no customers and no one to greet me. The buffet featured in photographs and reviews on Yelp was empty. The restaurant environment was cozy, as soft music played. Finally a young gentleman seated me with the menu. I inquired about the buffet and he said they had to stop the buffet due to food waste. He brought me chilled water with no ice (not my request) and I placed my order of lamb vindaloo, vegetable biryani, and plain naan bread. I asked to keep the menu for a dessert choice after my meal. Sadly, I did not take pictures of my food in the restaurant, but the food was very tasty. I requested spicy versions and both entrees were on point. When I arrived, a few minutes after 2 pm I was aware the restaurant closed at 3 pm. By the time I finished my first plate of lamb and biryani, the young man asked if I wished to choose my dessert now because they close at 3 pm. I had 16 minutes until closing. I reluctantly declined dessert because I was sensing they wanted me to leave. I took one more plate of food and he brought me my check and I requested a to go box for 3/4ths for my biryani and all but a half piece of naan bread. I finished my plate and transferred my food to the to go box. The young man left and there was about 8 minutes to closing. An older man emerged and spoke out loud from across the restaurant. I thought surely this person isn't talking to me from across the room. I continued to my bill and signed off and then the same man came closer and said are you finished? We are closed. I complained that he was rushing me and he reiterated that they close at 3 pm. I replied I arrived minutes after 2 pm and there were no patrons here. I waited patiently for my food to be prepared and I was reminded twice that the restaurant closes at 3pm. I asked him did he feel his actions were rude and if he felt any responsibility to the welfare of his customer to finish their meal peacefully? After all, I didn't walk in 30 minutes before closing, nor were they busy. I was their only customer for approximately an hour. He replied no we close at 3 pm and I need to get home and then come back later. There was no concern for me as a customer! The food was good and seasoned as requested. Customer service was disappointing and was rude. The older employee felt no responsibility or remorse for his actions. It is clear to me why there were no customers in the restaurant.

(14.99 per person)Would be fantastic for lunch breaks and meetings. I chose a buffet because my BF had never eaten Indian food. I wanted him to try a little bit of anything. He thought it was good. He tried everything, but he wasn't overly impressed. He is also a huge meat and potatoes guy. I really didn't expect him to impressed. I just enjoyed seeing him try something new. I am from another area, that had amazing Indian food. The Indian Buffett, I am used to, is very large and the restaurant was always filled with Indian people, which is rare was because people from India, very rarely go out to eat their homeland food. I think it spoiled me. Because this was not even close. But also the price was half of what I would have paid. I was happy with it, to satisfy a craving. But I am going to try other Indian restaurants to compare. It's a great deal, and if you are unsure if you like Indian food, this is a good way to try a little bit of something, to see if the flavors are for you, without spending a lot of money. Makes me wonder if their dinner and weekend selections are different, hmmm! That thought literally just came to me. lol I did feel like it was more for vegetarians, and I highly recommend it for Vegetarians. Many of the foods were meat free. The rest were all chicken. The service was excellent. They were very nice, and it is owned by a small business was owner from Nepal. I love supporting our local immigrant businesses, as well as black owned businesses. I enjoyed it, and will go back. But this is my first Indian restaurant I've tried in Rochester, so I have no idea how it compares to the others in the area. I also might go back and order off the menu. I would have loved a biryani. Maybe some goat if on the menu. Also, I may have missed it, but I do not recall seeing anything sweet. India has some amazing sweet treats. The restaurant was lovely, its decorations were pretty and on point. I loved our table, we had a small table away from others and by the window. It gave it more of a lunch date vibe. We had fun. Our server was very nice, and made sure we enjoyed ourselves. It's a nice place and I recommend giving it a try.
