This visit, however, was the first time I had "Joanna" as my server, and unfortunately, it was the most disappointing service I've ever received here. After my colleagues and I were seated, a family of about eight was seated directly behind us. I immediately noticed that Joanna was far more engaged and conversational with them. She offered them the specials and gave recommendations without being asked. Meanwhile, I had to request vinegar and hot sauce three separate times, and she still never brought them to me during the entire 2.5 hours we were there for the buffet. What she did ask for repeatedly was my drink menu, even though I like to enjoy a drink after my meal. I couldn't understand the difference in treatment at first, but then I realized we were the only women of color in the restaurant that night. After an otherwise great meal, it became clear to me that Joanna seemed uncomfortable serving Black women. I have never felt so singled out or overlooked in this establishment. Despite the poor service, we all left a good tip--not because it was earned, but because we refused to be placed into the stereotype that people of color don't tip. But truly, the service did not merit the 18% we each left. I've always brought my family here over the years, even for holiday meals, and I've never had an experience like this. It is sad to be reminded that we are still not always received the same as others, even when we're paying the same money and showing the same respect. This was the first time I left Captain George's disappointed.

Service was pretty good. The booth and table were very small. The full tables looked better. There was a plastic/rubber mat over the tablecloth that all of the glasses stuck to, due to the texture. I appreciated that they serve ice water without any question as you sit down. That was nice. The food was really good. I enjoyed all of it. Butter chicken was good. Punjabi Bread Basket was great, especially with the sauce that was included. Rice was good, not crunchy. The gulab jamun was amazing. Vegetables were tasty. I really liked the Cucumber Gimlet Mocktail I had, very good stuff. Portion sizes were HUGE! Plenty of food! Spice level was left at 1, and still had plenty of heat! Only complaint, were the prices. Extremely overpriced. I would recommend if you are with a group, order one thing and split it. It's enough food for a lower price. I definitely plan on returning.

The menu's font could have been larger, but the menu itself offers a lot. There's a whole page of vegetarian dishes that won me over. We sat in front of a water station, so our glasses were always topped off. This is very important to me as I'm somewhat of a camel. This was our first time in, but I guess it's customary there to serve an Indian salsa with two large circular crisps before the meal (similar to chips and salsa at a Mexican joint). Their salsa was delicious! I ordered their Malai Methi Corn dish (my usual at other Indian restaurants) yet there's was unlike any I had seen or tasted. Most are dark green from all the fenugreek but theirs used more coconut cream and came out a whiter shade. It was like eating a whole new dish. Still very tasty and plenty of it (very large portion). Their Naan was a bit undercooked and could have been crispier. Onto dessert where I got my favorite Gajar Halwa. Again, the portion was HUGE and well worth the price.

The restaurant is very clean with a bright friendly decor. The staff is professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. There is a weekend buffet that was perfect for me and my friend. It offered a wide selection of menu items. The staff kindly answered my questions regarding the items and their spicyness as well as explained sauces to utilize to reduce spicyness and add flavor to the items. Spot on advice. A bottle of water was provided and replaced during our meal. Other drinks are available; however, I thought water would be best if I ate something I found too spicy. Fresh Naan was brought to the tables throughout our visit. The food was delicious and filling, the service top notch, great portions for the price (observed menu item selections served to other patrons - generous portions), large parking area close to restaurant, a good mix of 4 to 10 seat tables and booths. Large screen TV's with Ballywood style music, very modest noise level that adds to dinning experience. Handicap accessible. Shopping center sidewalk, enter through two doors and entire restaurant is one level, no steps. Easy to remove a chair from a table to accommodate a wheelchair. I did not notice highchairs or booster seats but there were children (seven and up) in the dinning area. The lunch buffet was a good variety of clearly identified menu items in individual containers with lids and serving utensils. Plates, utensils, and napkins are available at buffet serving area. Cups are already on the tables. My friend and I had a truly enjoyable Indian buffet. I strongly recommend you try this restaurant - by yourself, with a friend, or a group. From the individual menu selections to several menu selections to the buffet, like my friend's co-worker said, "You should try this place, I think you will like it." Again, thank you to the staff for kindly taking the time to explain the dishes and sauces.

You are constantly lifting lids not knowing where to place them, on top of figuring out where to place your plate. The food was decent. Their naan bread was good and that's always something I enjoy. Wish they had more vegetable options. It's bit pricey for the quality and amount of options. Service was okay, they constantly removed plates and gave us refills on water.

The restaurant wasn't completely full but that soon changed with several families coming in right after us. The restaurant is on the smaller side, clean and decorated well. We went on a Saturday night and ordered off of their special weekend menu. We definitely over ordered. There were 3 of us and we had enough leftovers for a full meal the next day. We ordered the masala cheese dosai, butter chicken, nalli gosht biryani and malai lamb chops. The nalli gosht is the goat shank biryani, we got the order for 2 people, it comes with 2 goat shanks on a mountain of fluffy fragrant basmati rice. The goat was tender falling off the bone, seasoned to perfection in a spicy masala paste/sauce. We got it at level one spice but it tasted spicer. We didn't mind because the spice just added to the flavor. It was so good! We also got the usual butter chicken which turned out to be not so usual because like everything else we tried, the spice combo and depth of flavor just turned it up several notches. The masala cheese dosai was a great start to the meal and was fun to eat with our hands. The lamb chops were a last minute addition and so worth it. The chops were cooked perfectly in a flavorful sauce and served with a veggie slaw. Overall, we LOVED everything we tried and would definitely recommend Biryani Hub. The only suggestion we have would be to serve cold water or offer ice. Our waiter brought a bottle of water to the table with glasses but the water was more room temp. Other than that, it was a great experience.

Biryani Hub Delivers a Flavorful Introduction to Authentic Indian Cuisine…read more I finally made my way to Biryani Hub for lunch, conveniently located at 5745 Virginia Beach Boulevard, tucked just behind the Waffle House. For weekday diners, the restaurant offers a smart selection of combination platters--an ideal entry point for anyone looking to explore a range of traditional Indian dishes in a single sitting. I chose the Chicken Platter ($15), which features three distinct preparations, two generously sized pieces of naan, and a dessert to round out the meal. It's a well-structured offering that balances variety with portion size. The standout was the Chicken Dum (bone-in), prepared in the traditional dum style--slow-cooked and sealed to lock in flavor. The result is deeply aromatic, rich, and layered in a way that feels unmistakably royal. This is not rushed food; it's deliberate, composed, and worthy of the word "luxury." Equally impressive was the Special Chicken (boneless)--tender pieces marinated in a proprietary blend of spices, then cooked with fragrant basmati rice in layered fashion. Each bite carried trapped aromas that unfolded gradually, delivering both depth and balance without overwhelming the palate. One detail worth noting: the clearly defined spice scale (1-7). I selected level 4, labeled "Indian Mild." While approachable, it still carried a noticeable heat--enough to remind you that you're experiencing authentic seasoning rather than a toned-down version. Too often, restaurants rely on heat for its own sake--spice without structure. That's not the case here. At Biryani Hub, the heat is deliberate, built into layered flavor profiles that are difficult to fully describe and far better experienced firsthand. What stood out most was the depth of flavor across the board. Each dish brought its own identity, with spices working in harmony rather than competing for attention. For those already familiar with Indian cuisine--or anyone curious to step into it--Biryani Hub is a worthwhile stop. It's the kind of place that rewards exploration while supporting a local business doing things the right way.
