Where do I start. I only gave it 1 star due to it being in a great location from everything we wanted to do ( stax museum, Lorraine museum, Elvis Presley museum, food places, etc which was a plus for me) if not for that i would give it a zero. If you're from out of town/state I wouldn't recommend this place. For one this is the first hotel (Hilton at that) that I have been to that you have to let them know everyday you want room service. I mean I thought that came with paying for staying at a hotel. Second, I understand that this hotel is kind of old but it's ridiculous how they do not up keep it. The tub flooded every time we took a shower. The toilet was gross. You could tell they had not cleaned the bathroom (clean bathrooms are a big deal for me.) The quality or service and the cleanliness was just awful, i mean AWFUL. I seriously do not know how this place is 4 stars. People were letting their dogs pee everywhere inside the hotel. The elevators were gross. I mean the list goes on. I am surprised Hilton has allowed this establishment to look the way it does. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

It gets the job done. Hotel is above-average clean, with some fairly insignificant areas that lack perfection. Gym was very solid. I didn't find the beds to be terrible, but not the best Hilton experience I've had. Sheets were irritating to the skin -- comforter/duvet just ok. I was a bit disappointed the hotel didn't try to accommodate or make the cities' water situation right (I had zero water pressure the last night and had to buy water bottles to brush/wash my hands). NOT SAFE - CAR STOLEN Do not stay here unless you want your car stolen! Cameras are broken/useless, one roaming night guard, ano protective gates/fences/security, and cops shared this parking lot gets hit multiple times weekly. My car was stolen from front row of Hilton parking lot (first spot next to handicap parking & ramp nearest main entrance) during a one night stay. The Hilton staff response was aloof, ignoring & hands-off -- as if by just interacting with me or helping me they would admit liability. I was stranded for over 48 hours but NEVER acknowledged, approached, or reached out to by any Hilton management! On top of that their onsite car rental was bogus & useless -- I prepaid on official website night but was not told until after I had checked out they had 0 cars on location and I would have make it on my own their airport to pick up alternative car. (Hilton hotel does not offer shuttle at all, no even airport shuttle) I was eventually contacted by third party claims adjuster that said Hilton is not responsible because they had signs posted -- evidently repeated crime/theft/vandalism on property with no working cameras, no fences/gates, no security doesn't count as negligence. Overall disappointed in unprofessionalism, negligence, and non responsiveness of Hilton management. read more

Possibly had the worst customer service of my life here. My extended family was traveling to support my brother and sister-in-law at a bodybuilding competition held at this hotel. We were all traveling together (10 of us) in a tour bus. we had all booked reservations at the Memphis Hilton. When we arrived at 10 am, we asked if we could check in, and were told that we were not allowed to check in until 4 (understandably), so we stowed our bags on the bus and watched the competition. At 4 pm, we returned to check in. Four of our party of 10 were told that we'd been moved to a different hotel. We stressed how important it was for us to stay at their hotel, with the rest of our family, and with the competition ending late at night, we'd have no way to get to the hotel they moved us to. They basically said "tough cookies" and that they could take us to the other hotel if we left before the competition was over. To be clear...we had comfirmed reservations at this hotel. Which they would not honor because they had overbooked. Staff was rude, condescending, and unhelpful. They were totally unsympathetic to our needs, which had resulted from our reservations not being honored. Don't be fooled by the shiny pics of this hotel that Hilton posts on their website. read more

The lobby is beautiful and the beds are comfortable. The checkin process was fast; however, no information about any amenities was provided. I had to ask about the restaurant location/hours, the gym and the pool. The lobby has a bar that the website indicates has hours from 11am - 11pm, but that is not true. The bar opens at 4:30pm. The bartender, Alexis, is fantastic! She greeted me daily and asked how I was. Please give this employee a raise! The bar has no happy hour, which is disappointing. I've never been to a hotel without a happy hour. The starbucks is not able to accept payment through the Starbucks app and has no promotions available. It is the most expensive Starbucks, that's not really a Starbucks. I paid $7.76 for a Venti iced regular coffee. I told the F&B manager this is the most expensive regular iced coffee I have ever paid for anywhere in the world. She didn't say a word. read more

Our stay at the Hilton in Memphis started out on a great note upon check-in when we were deemed "Guests of the Day" and each given a coupon for a free breakfast buffet. We stayed in a room with two full beds, and the beds passed the "bedbug check" (where you look under the sheets in the seams of the mattress for bedbugs- I've heard horror stories). When taking a shower though, we did find a few long dark hairs in the tub that were not ours. We did make our way to the breakfast buffet in the AM to put our vouchers to good use; and we were not disappointed. There was everything you'd expect, and we made sure to try a little of everything (see photo of full-to-the-brim plate). The hotel lobby was decorated very festively for the holidays, and there was even a formal Christmas party for a local business in the bar/lobby on Friday night. All the hotel employees I encountered at the Hilton were so friendly and helpful. One issue that we did have was with the cleaning service- we were gone most of the day Friday and when we returned around 4:00 our room hadn't been cleaned yet and we did not have any clean towels. Not a huge issue as we were able to find a housekeeper in the halls; just something to note. read more

Best of breed at both chains Yet not a damned place to enjoy a beer with 100 friends or so. You'll get 1000x ROI. Take a casino concept. Do what you can to keep customers from spending their money elsewhere. Most of us dont want to uber walk or drive if we dont have to Capitalize on that. Next, KUDOS goes to Ms. Pat at the breakfast buffet restaurant, her service was outstanding! Ms. Pat's team, Assante & Kee-Kee were fabulous, as well! Mona on the other side, was the BOMB, her people skills are really above the line, a beautiful spirit. Last, but definitely not least would be Speedo, he is such the gentleman! In Memphis for our Family reunion & checked into the Hilton. I was told this Hotel is under NEW management. ***The first room we were assigned had mold on the ceiling. We told the front desk & they reassigned is a fresh room on the same floor. However; I noticed that molded suite was later assigned to a new guest. ***To add insult to injury the Hotel elevator is extremely squeaky & unstable. This should be addressed ASAP!!Also the lobby chairs are sooo old, cracked, discolored & dusty. I had to move to the patio area to get comfortable. I wouldn't put these in my garage. Stellar customer service, affordable hotel, free self-parking, and proximity to the East Memphis business district were key factors in my selection of this Hilton location. It was obvious that hotel management ensured their staff had proper training on customer service etiquette. We were amazed by the level of friendliness and courtesy shown by hotel staff members on a daily basis. Being visitors from out of town, we felt very welcomed from our arrival to departure. We decided to stay on the lower floor to be able to freely use the stairs when needed, to save time waiting on the elevators and to get some healthy cardio in since we would be dining out for meals. We did get to ride up in the elevator all the way to the top of the hotel when someone inadvertently selected the wrong floor and it surely was a grand, scenic view of the city! The standard king room, although comfortable and clean, was more compact than rooms we have stayed in at Holiday Inn Express or Marriott Courtyard. Unfortunately, the room was not equipped with a mini-fridge nor microwave so do keep that in mind if you require these amenities. I did appreciate the gorgeous full-length mirror in the hallway, which was all I needed to get all dolled up for our nights out exploring Memphis. The hotel bar was a nice place to meet up friends for drinks, but drinks were overpriced, as to be expected. The lobby was very spacious with ample seating available and festively decorated for the holidays. There was a small business center area with computers for public use. The hotel was pet-friendly as we saw a handful of families with their pets inside the hotel. Outside of the hotel was a walking area with a pond and gazebo, in dire need of a facelift. The outdoor pool looked inviting but the cold weather prevented us from going out there. There was an event each night we were there, but the influx of people did not interfere with our stay. The fitness center was actually one of the nicer ones I've seen in a hotel and we made use of it a couple of time during our stay. The hotel does show some wear and tear but we were glad to see they were undergoing much-needed renovations. One downside with room for improvement was the parking lot. The confusing layout of the parking lot could be hard to navigate without signs to clearly direct people, and there was limited parking available close to the lobby entrance. We did not mind parking far and walking, but if you were traveling with young kids or older adults, it might not be the best option in terms of easily going to/from your vehicle. All in all, we were more than happy with the convenience of the hotel's location and nearby proximity to restaurants and shopping centers off Poplar Avenue. We dined out about 4-5 times along Poplar Avenue at local restaurants. With it being the holidays, we didn't really have to worry about sitting in traffic on the interstate to grab lunch or dinner. I would recommend the Hilton East Memphis for the value, location, and excellent customer service. read more

We had a great stay here in June for a friend's wedding. Every time we entered the lobby, the staff greets you warmly. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. This is why I generally love any Hilton. There was a huge conference here the weekend we stayed, but the facility was always clean. The only down-side was two of the four elevators broke down on a check-out Sunday when the 300+ guests from the conference were checking. My friends and I subsequently were late for our reservations. Some of us took the stairs from the 11th floor in heels. Others waited 20+ minutes for an elevator. This is an average Hilton. I love staying at the Hilton, so no real complaints. We even got lucky each night with a parking so close enough to the lobby (the parking lot was always full, even after the weekend). There's a Target & several stores & restaurants right across the highway. Very convenient location. read more

I'm honestly mind boggled by some of the reviews of this hotel. Maybe they've completed renovations between now and when they were written? My family and I stayed here for a wedding in Memphis. I was immediately impressed upon entering the hotel. The lobby is huge with really high ceilings and a good sized bar. The elevators up to the rooms have a glass wall so you can see the scenery on your way up, and they move really quickly. The view from our room was spectacular. The only thing missing in the room was a mini fridge but we called to the front desk and they brought one up for us. There's also a great little cafe with healthy options available. Just outside the cafe is an outdoor seating area overlooking a manmade pond with a fountain. Very relaxing and enjoyable. I'd recommend! read more

Extremely frustrating experience! Came into town for the night for son's Memphis football game. We regularly stay in the nearby area, but this was our first time at this particular hotel. Checked in at normal time, which was fine. Rooms were clean and everything was good there. Came back from our game around 11pm to absolute madness. The hotel was hosting an annual "Elixir" event with HUNDREDS of partygoer's. Events are to be expected, and I have zero issue with that - it would have been very nice upon reservation or check-in to be given a heads up that this was going on so we could have made alternate arrangements, given this is apparently something they do annually at this hotel location, as we would have opted to find something else earlier in the evening. I DO however have an issue with people that are paying to stay there not even being able to get into your parking lot and not feeling very safe onsite with what was going on around. First, there were cars everywhere, double/ triple parked, parked up on curbs, parked up & down the main roadway going to the hotel, attendees being party-bused onsite, etc. People literally everywhere. We could hardly even navigate our vehicle thru the parking lot to see if we could find anywhere to park- spent 30-45 minutes circling around where we could fit thru (they have a huge parking lot by the way, so there should be zero issues with hotel guests being able to park onsite) until finally we just blocked the entire pathway by the entrance and went inside to retrieve our things and ask for a refund. An onsite security guard told us could park wayyyyy down the road in an empty office parking lot - given the issues they have in their own parking lot with break-in's etc., I most certainly was not leaving my brand-new vehicle in an empty parking lot a mile down the road and walking to the hotel in the pitch black with my two kids and my nearly 70-year-old mom. This party was supposed to last until midnight and we were told that it usually goes on into the early morning hours. There were complete drunks stumbling around in the parking lot, people using drugs/reeked of weed both in the parking lot and inside the hotel, people barely dressed with all the body parts hanging out to see. It was NOT a comfortable environment for my family/children and by the time we were able to get our things, there was not a hotel room anywhere near that had anything available, so we drove back home thus basically ruining the time we had planned to spend with our son the following day. So, thank you Hilton, I enjoyed the chaos and the 5-minute visit with my son after a 4-hour drive both ways. It was magical. The staff at least did not give me any grief about refunding my two rooms, there would have been a high speed come-apart otherwise, but DO BETTER about planning for this type of chaos on your hotel site. It's not fair to people that are paying to stay to have to endure this insanity. read more

We really wanted to like this hotel. It's in a great location with lots of amenities nearby, as well as being close to UM. We'll be visiting the city frequently as we have children in college there. However, after two visits, we've decided to look elsewhere. First, the elevators are extremely slow; expect a significant wait during busy times. Secondly, the bathrooms are horrible. Very old, worn and outdated - below standards for a Hampton, much less a Hilton. During our most recent visit, we returned to our room around 1pm after our first night and room hadn't been cleaned. When we left again around 3pm, we stopped at the desk to ask about it. They said they'd be sure it was cleaned before we returned. Still wasn't cleaned when we returned, so when we left for dinner, we asked for clean towels only. Upon our return in a couple of hours, we did have clean towels, but there was a strong odor of marijuana in the room. Very disconcerting to say the least. One other issue was that there were guests in the lobby who were playing extremely loud music on speakers. It was very unwelcoming and seemed unprofessional for a common area of a Hilton. We'll keep looking. We've been loyal Hilton customers for a long time but this one was a disappointment. read more

Just spent two nights in Room 214. I was a little weary because of the critical reviews on a number of sites. However, my room was clean, quiet, atractive and warm. They do have the hot water on a timer system. In the middle of the day, there is almost no hot tap water, but in the morning and evening the water is almost too hot. There are areas of the hotel which are showing some wear--like the elevators. The enormous lobby with its very high walls is a drafty and cold space, although the bar looked like a lively place. There is a Starbucks on site which is open early, and another lobby restaurant offering a $17.50 breakfast buffet which looked nice. The location seems convenient off the highway and near a lot of dining and shopping options. I do not know if all the rooms are renovated, but I was comfortable and pleased. There is free parking although the lot is on the dark side. We noticed a security car making the rounds which was reassuring. read more

Stayed on the 25th floor last week and woke up to a bed bug crawling on the headboard. It was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend when I checkout but there was no manager to talk to until the following Tuesday?! Never got a call back so I had to call on Tuesday and leave a voicemail to get a callback from the Assistant Manager. Left the live bedbug at the front desk and got the heck out of that place. I stayed here on a business trip and was pleased with how nice the hotel is! It was easy to locate and drive to. The lobby has a good aesthetic, very open with lots of comfortable seating and a large bar. There also a provisions stand with snacks and a Starbucks as well. The workers are very pleasant and friendly! Made my visit easy and smooth. Rooms are spacious and large! The bed is very comfortable and I slept well! (This is a huge win because I normally sleep terribly in hotels). I appreciated how there was a TV guide placed right by the remote in the room. Rooms also have Keurig machines with coffee, tea, and little creamer pods. GREAT lighting in the bathroom/sink area and there is a lighted magnifying mirror you can pull out from the wall. My only complaint is that the water pressure in the shower was awful. I like high pressure, so for me this was like a trickle. This is a really minor complaint though, the water stays hot for a long time! read more

Worst hotel we've ever stayed at. For the price and name, we expected far better. Where to even begin. We only stayed there because the convention we were at was also there. The moment we walked into the lobby for check in, we knew we were in for a terrible stay. It's July in Memphis. 106 outside. Inside the lobby was about 98. They have one main area of elevators for everyone to get to their rooms. There are about 26 floors. So everyone is standing in a line, with their luggage, waiting for an elevator, in this hot lobby which also has the most skylights and windows ever. There are only 4 elevators to begin with and most of our 5 night stay consisted of only 2 or 3 actually working. The hotel was fully booked so you can imagine how this went. We get to our floor finally. It was even hotter than the lobby. The stairway door wouldn't close all of the way, so that let in a lot of hot air. Our room surely was cooler. Nope. Set to 60, felt like 80. So you can imagine how awful this stay was. We had nowhere to cool down. You can't even get a drink at the bar. For some dumb reason the bar hours were like 4pm-10pm. So 5 nights and we had to wait until dinner time practically and then they closed at 10pm. Why wouldn't you keep the bar opened from noon until 2am at least? Probably has nothing to do with staff. If you can't even keep a hotel cool, you probably just keep the dumbest bar hours because why not. Think of the money you could've made. You knew you were having a fully booked hotel that weekend. Why would you not fix the damn AC and staff the place appropriately and make sure the few elevators you had actually worked??? And I found out your AC had been broken for a month. You had a month to fix it!!!!! Back to our room. Besides being super hot and stuffy, it was gross. There was mildew all over the bathroom. It didn't look cleaned. Plus there was no housekeeping. I was told on our 4th day that there would be. There wasn't. We had to go downstairs every day for clean towels and more TP and soap. Had we known this was what we were in for, regardless of the convention being at your hotel, we would've stayed elsewhere. There's no way in hell we'd ever stay there again. There was not one redeeming factor. You'd have to give us a free 5 night stay or something, to even try it again. read more

Solid Hilton property. Parking is simple and close to the entrance. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The bar is hopping in the evening with business crowd. I had one drink at the bar and a few cups of coffee at a small cafe. They serve Starbucks at the reasonable cost. The only gripe I have is with the elevators, the elevators at busy times can cause quite a wait. The hotel has an outdoor pool and hot tub that looked beautiful, I did not use it as the weather was not pool weather. The hotel has a gym but I did not visit. The hotel was have a full service restaurant and room service. I did not partake. Most of my colleagues choose this hotel and I can see why. As mentioned by other reviewers, the hotel is without working AC. It was 80+ in our room. The building is old, cheap, and decrepit. I'm assuming the plan is to leave the AC broken until they demolish the building--it's probably not worth repairing. Floors everywhere are sticky and filthy, including in the room. The king bed rooms are oddly half full of workout equipment, including a bulky stationary bike. If your idea of relaxation is sleeping in an old LA Fitness, this is the place for you. I asked for any kind of refund ($250/night when camping in the parking lot would have been just as comfortable) and was outright refused. Bartender was awesome, though. read more

The incompetence of the front desk manager needs to be studied and reviewed by the hospitality board. The amount of false, inconsistent, oscillating, information given out is staggering. Beverly and Danyale the front desk managers are leading a team without concise and consistent information. April was the only one who had some type of common sense and compassion. How do you leave two incompetent employees to check in customers? Each asking the how to's of a job. This hotel has been a pain since I've came here. I came here for a work conference and each time I have been extremely disappointed in the service and the upkeep of the hotel. The provisions cafeteria is slow as traffic on 240 East during rush hour. The elevators are outdated, hot and sound like they need to be at the very least sprayed with WD-40. If it wasn't for my conference I would definitely choose somewhere else to stay. The breakfast buffet is poorly supplied. They often run out of food and are slow to replace. The only good thing about the hotel is the maid staff. My room was cleaned and changed everyday(that I was allowed to enter). I will never willingly come back to this hotel. Oh and if you are here for a conference be sure to submit their version of an authorization form because if not they will disable your key, try to charge your card incorrect amounts and keep you waiting in the lobby. This place is an absolute joke and I hope the ILAM committee takes their business elsewhere. They had the nerve to send me a rating link to see how I'm enjoying my day. Maybe its just me, after reading the reviews for this location, as I always do...I have to say, I was expecting worse than received. I loved my room,that consisted of double beds that was shared amongst me and a female relative. Room was clean, prepared just as needed for us to have a successful weekend of rest, there was more than enough towels for the both of us on both days that we were occupancies of the Hotel. That bed, oh my that bed...was so comfortable, I slept so good that I got in bed early on Saturday night just to relax before the 8 and 1/2 hour commute back to Texas. Sure there was a crack in the ceiling over by the curtains, but who the hell going to be swinging from the ceiling, so what should I care about that crack when everything else was arranged so nice. Hotel was beautiful, sorry that I was down for a family gathering and didn't get enough time to enjoy that beautiful scenery in the lobby and entertain myself with a orange juice or something from the café. There was plenty of weddings, family reunions, and guest detailing throughout the hotel, that let you know business is booming for them. Parking was miraculous, but its like any where you go, the early bird gets the worm, so the later you stayed out the further your parking space would be from the front door, which I may say was more than enough. Location is very accessible to the expressway, and across the expressway was multiple stores and a couple of restaurants for convenience.My trip was booked through Expedia, and they charged my card immediately upon registering online, therefore I had no problems with payment nor the hotel staff, I showed my license and credit card received my hotel key and transaction was completed with in 2mins, beside the humor of the staff which was outstanding. We received the same service upon checking out, and let me fell not to mention the great staff at Starbucks, and kudos to the gentlemen for my free coffee. Hats off to Hilton, will definitely book here upon my return visit! read more

Would not stay here. My car was broken into 2 nights in a row. So if you want an additional $250 a night to replace glass go ahead. They have security but they are sleeping or in on it with the thieves. read more

Really should've gave them 0 stars. Just the worst experience I've ever had at any hotel I'm the US. I travel at least 2x -3x per month for work, so I'm pretty familiar with the Hotel protocol.. this was an absolute customer service team from hell. Don't book - Save yourself the hassle. read more

The exterior and location are wonderful, the eating and dining areas are exquisite and even "classy and clean" but the rooms were terrible. With tax and fees we paid $323.95 for a king bed in a room barely big enough to pop up two cots for our kids. The first "King Deluxe suite" was so small I just pushed the cart straight out thinking there was a mistake. We were assigned a new room on the 23rd floor which was "much bigger" Same size The view was nice from the room by the suspicious brown stains by the light switch made me gag. If it wasn't 11pm and I didn't have two small tired kids I would have left. read more
