King Room

As others have noted in recent reviews.. the Hilton Boston/Dedham is a dated, dilapidated property that desperately needs capital investment and deep cleaning to bring it up to Hilton's brand standards or the condition of other hotels in the area. To its credit, the property is conveniently located just off I-95 at Exit 28 - East Street/Canton Street and a 5-minute walk to the commuter rail station at Dedham Corporate Center, which is only a 25-minute train ride to/from South Station in downtown Boston. I had reserved my room ahead of time on Hilton.com and check-in/check-out was very easy, even though there was only one front desk associate competently handling the growing line of incoming guests for a wedding party, a religious event, and an off-resort timeshare sales presentation at the hotel that evening. The lobby was small, but functional, with a sit-down restaurant and bar, as well as an informal grab & go counter offering a good variety of coffee, non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks. At first glance, the common areas and guestrooms show signs of lackluster maintenance with significant wear and tear. As soon I opened the door to the room that I was assigned on the fourth floor, the stench of wet dog hit me. I walked in and turned on the HVAC, just to make sure it wasn't stale air.. but the odor got worse. That isn't acceptable in a Hilton (or any other hotel) that's described as a pet-free hotel, so I went back to the front desk where the front desk associate assured me this was a pet-free property. I mentioned that a previous guest had obviously ignored the rules and my sleeping companion was particularly sensitive to smells, so I asked to be assigned another room. The second room seemed a little better.. but, the smell of cat litter filled the room as soon as I turned on the HVAC. At this point, I've sensed a troubling trend about the property, but I figured we would be able to deal with the experience for the one night I was staying here. Throughout the night the smell seemed to get worse, even waking me up several times. Aside from the odors, the furniture in the room looked well-worn. My room was also equipped with a large LED TV with plenty of content, a reasonable workspace, and a dorm-sized cube refrigerator as well as a mini coffee maker with four coffee pods. When I opened the cube refrigerator to store some bottled water, it felt warmer than the room because it badly needed to be defrosted. The bathroom showed signs of wear and tear, but had plenty of space on the vanity for my personal hygiene items and this hotel has made the transition from providing individual bars of soap and bottles of shampoo/conditioner to refillable wall-mounted dispensers. PRO TIP #1: Stay elsewhere. PRO TIP #2: Historic Dedham Square, which is a 10 minute drive from the hotel, offers several boutique shops and restaurants that feature a variety of options from pub cuisine to farm-to-table to Asian to Greek to Italian as well as free parking in the municipal parking lot.

Dirty towel I pulled after getting out the shower

Do not stay here! Our first room had a dirty bathroom floor had a dirty towel and the air conditioning wasn't working. Moved us to a second room and the toilet paper holder was also broken and the walls are absolutely paper thin. I haven't had a bad hotel experience like this in a long time. Didn't get any sleep. As we were checking out we heard multiple others complaining about there terrible nights sleep as well. Seems we weren't the only ones

With disappointment, I update my review. Hilton Dedham has deteriorated. I've stayed at this property 30+ nites over the years, and I return regularly. Yet, the property has so much potential--including location and the Hilton brand. This Hilton suffers from lack of maintenance, delayed repairs, previous amenities removed, and inattentive management. I am available if mgt wishes to discuss. My Gripe List is longer...here is the short list: * Bar closes at 10 pm despite the website claiming 12:30 am close. * Underground garage looks like an inner-city abandoned parking lot with broken glass, hanging wires, and piles of debris. * Complimentary morning coffee has disappeared from the lobby; complimentary Starbucks coffee for Diamond Member has been take away * Despite a nicely done room bath remodel, the bath door still has a hole in it. Shower control is falling off, and not reported by housekeeping. * Room lamps are missing USB charge ports. Lamp A/C outlets are too loose to charge phone. * Breakfast toaster is so slow that the Berlin Wall fell in less time. * Several of the draught beer taps were dry. How do you run out of draught beer several days in a row? * For the third time, no complimentary upgrade was offered. * With bar closed at 10 pm on the day of our arrival, we tried the vending machine to eat something. It too wasn't working. These gripes are caused by inattentive management, and some may be property finances. While I have no way of knowing, I suspect this property might be in or near bankruptcy. Alert: The property pictures on the website must be from 10 years ago. Pluses: Location, usual comfy Hilton Beds, made-to-order breakfast, and complimentary covered parking. Signed, Diamond Member

I'm not sure what happened, but our last stay at the Dedham Residence Inn was underwhelming, to say…read morethe least. This Residence Inn is still a viable option. It's just that eventually, you can tell it was an older building and facility. In contrast to other properties, it's a little smaller. But that's not any reason to avoid it. You just have to keep in mind that "average" is the key word here. You'll have a good, comfortable stay, as we did, but it won't be particularly memorable. I've stayed here in 2019 and 2021, obviously very different years. But the core is the same: comfortable suites, continental breakfast, and convenience. You have all the space in the suites for storage, and if you want to do your own cooking, there's all the tools you need right there. You can camp out on the couches with your family and just have a quiet afternoon. The real advantage this Residence Inn has is the convenience. You're right off a highway exit and across the street from shopping and restaurants. There's plenty of choices for meals, so if you have picky eaters, you can find something for everyone. There's also a Whole Foods if you just want to grab a few groceries instead. We've done that before to varying degrees of success, so it really depends on what your group needs. Either way, it's easy to get to wherever you need to go. Really, the only caveat I'd add in is to be aware of traffic and crowds during the holiday shopping season and plan responsibly. I'm sure we will eventually stay here again. At the end of the day, the Dedham Residence Inn is convenient and helpful, even if it isn't particularly memorable. Sometimes, when you're traveling, you just need the basics.

Restful Stay & Great Value…read more We stayed one night at the Hampton Inn in Norwood and had a very restful experience. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was amazing--especially the shower with plenty of hot water. The entire facility felt well-maintained and clean. The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. Even though we had some booking issues, they handled everything professionally and kindly, which really made a difference. Breakfast looked good overall. The only downside was that there were no eggs when we came down around 8:00 AM--we may have arrived before they restocked the scrambled eggs. That said, the coffee was absolutely delicious. For the price, this hotel is a great value. Comfortable, clean, friendly staff, and a peaceful night's sleep. I would definitely recommend staying here if you're in the Norwood/Boston area.

They have ample parking with a great restaurant attached (Mick Morgan's) and I really think the restaurant made our stay bearable at almost $350/night. The toilet paper holder was broken and the toilet paper roll would slide off and the holder couldn't be used. The carpet could use shampooing; it had a stale funky odor. The air conditioner barely cooled the room off and we left on the lowest setting of 65 degrees. The housekeeping staff was super loud each morning. The breakfast served had brown, over ripened bananas that had fruit flies all over it. Oranges weren't ripe enough. Hot breakfast was overcooked and dry, making it inedible. The staff that ran breakfast wasn't friendly at all. Got a yogurt and left. I don't recommend this specific hotel and I won't be staying here again with all the options nearby.

Hotel had a block of rooms at a lower rate, which was a nice thing - close to the event and very close to the Target and other restaurants right nearby, along with a Wegmans in the complex. Also right beside the train station, so that was convenient if you didn't want to drive into Boston. Location can get packed with fans if you have football games going on, so the weekend rates were higher than the weekday rates by quite a bit. Space is relatively new, lobby clean and restaurant/bar there, as well as check in and a small shop for snacks. They had a water tower there, too, and a small area with TVs and a business center all on the first floor. Pool was closed for maintenance, and gym was small but had all the basic weights and a couple treadmills. And they have some cookies out every night (varies by type). They do room service every other day, or you can call for more frequent service (or state none at all at the start). The food service area is only open a few hours of the day (it's not continuous coffee available, you have to go to Dunkin or a Starbucks instead of that's your drive). Rooms were comfortable and had plenty of lights and a small fridge, AC that you could turn off, blackout curtains, and a mirror. TV didn't work, initially, staff came in and at least had the cable working, but the TV video was all blue tinted. They said it'll get fixed with a new batch of TVs coming in, so we'll see what happens the next time we visit! Parking lot had plenty of space, shared with the urgent care next door and the Del Frisco's Grille.

Additionally when we checked in, we were told there was breakfast in the lobby from 7am-11am. Never was it mentioned that this was not complimentary and when we came down in the morning for breakfast there was no signage before entering the breakfast area that made guests aware of the charge of 19.99 per person for breakfast. We only found out after sitting down with our food and being handed a check. When we voiced our concerns to the front desk staff, the woman there blamed US for not thoroughly researching the cost before sitting down. She was rude and accusatory. This is extremely terrible customer service and not representative of how a hotel should be run. We weren't even asking for a refund we just wanted signage put out for other guests so that they wouldn't make the same mistake as us, as other guests had the same reaction to the bait and switch we experienced. To top it all off, the breakfast wasn't even good and was a very limited selection of congealed eggs and cold sausage. Despite the front desk staff arguing that no signs should need to be posted--lo and behold the next morning signs were placed so that guests would see the menu and costs PRIOR to entering into the breakfast area. So not only were we made to feel bad for giving feedback, the staff then actually took our helpful feedback to help other guests. Terrible experience all around.
