This is a challenging little course for all levels of play at a fair price. Pros: it is in very good shape with fast true greens and well trimmed fairways and thick rough in places. Cons: no par 5 on the back 9 and no restaurant to get a burger and a beer after the round, despite having an on-site function facility. But for a municipal course, it is pretty darn good. read more

Course is in great shape this year. They are doing a lot of work to improve it. Some holes are open and less challenging and some tighter and more challenging. Great mix. Prefer the front 9 because of the par 5's where the back 9 dies but have any 5's. People that work there are super nice and helpful. I can't say enough about Matt. He takes good care of our Wednesday night woman's league. read more

Sad to say conditions were fair at best but more importantly our group was told, not asked, to have a single stranger join us. We refused because of these pandemic times nobody wanted to take the risk and we have friends with health risks. The course manager was rude, argued with us, then asked us not to return. I would never recommend anyone play here with people like this running the course. read more

Took my sons here for a quick 9 holes while on vacation. I agree with the previous reviewer that prices are a bit high, but since this is nearby, I decided to give it a try. The course is nice and the boys and I were having a good time...that is until an old man in a cart came around to chastise us for not golfing quicker because there were several sets of "pros" behind us... This happened not once, but THREE times over the course of 9 holes. He also suggested that before we go golfing, we should really take some lessons from the pros in the shop. Excuse me?? While all three of us are novices, I have golfed for years and know correct golfing etiquette. I would certainly let a faster team play through if we were holding someone up...but there was NO ONE in sight behind us! In addition, we were all hitting par or at worst a few above...but certainly not terribly. Not sure what this guys problem was, but he turned an enjoyable day with my sons into a hurried game that no one enjoyed. Unless you consider yourself a senior citizen golf pro, i would suggest you look elsewhere to play golf. I'll be checking out Middleton or Rolling Green in Andover next time around. read more

Hillview is what it is, a "just ok" golf course. The good thing about Hillview is that you can always get a tee time, so it's a great course for when you want to play in a moment's notice. The front 9 is easy to walk, the back 9 not so much, but it won't kill you either. The back 9 is where the HILL in Hillview comes out. There are no beer carts on the course, so don't expect to be served on the course. Maybe pack a few of your own, although I'm not sure if that's allowed. ;-) I always play Hillview 3 or 4 times a year, and it's always a good time. Nothing great, nothing horrible... just an ok golf course. read more

WOW. This place is like an old girlfriend you used to date but then you dumped her because she was boring even though she was cute and then years later you see a photo of her on facebook and you think "WOW She got FAT!!!! And UGLY!!!" And we all know what that's like, right? Right guys? Fat ex-girlfriends? Dodge the bullet? - I played here last weekend. I had a really nice time but holy smokes this place is overpriced. A lot of damaged fairways and greens. It was just utterly unloved. The holes are all right - none of them were particularly memorable. I only played the front nine. But wow. I mean I'm not going back here unless I have to and since none of my friends have the guts to play golf - then forgetabout it. - Although they do make a nice turkey club at the little bar/restaurant on-site. read more

I love this place. It's my "home course". Nice driving range and putting/chipping green. The front 9 is pretty forgiving. Wide fairways (easy to find that shank off the tee), good green conditions, nice mix of par 3s 4s and 5s. The back 9 in a lot more challenging. Couple blind tee shots, lots of elevation changes, tougher water hazards and bunkers than the front. It's almost like playing two different courses. You can usually walk on but they do have quite a few leagues and outings. The young kids who work the pro shop are great and the older guys are nice too which isn't always the case at a lot of golf courses. 9 holes with a cart is about $35 which is pretty standard issue on a good course. I've played there a dozen times this year and only once was there an issue with green conditions, but this was after a week of heavy downpours so nbd. read more

This course is pretty nice, with the usual limited concentration of flaws. It's not too hilly nor is it too narrow. I plan on coming back here, as its pretty well-suited for beginners like myself. Pricing is reasonable. read more

Played the back tees at Hillview (I usually play the whites, but Hillview is short) on a Monday morning and it was really nice. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in really good shape. Rough was tough but consistent and well-groomed, so it was fair. Sand traps were highly variable--some soft, others hard-packed. There are many interesting holes on this course and I found it really fun to play. The front and back nine are rather different. Plenty of nice scenery and views. My favorite of the five courses I've played in this area. read more

Course is in rough shape. Poor layout, with burnt out fairways, and terrible greens. I suspect there must be a water restriction in North Reading. It is a hackers course at best. It's pretty short with a few drivable par 4s for the big hitters. In fact there is even one ultra short 230 yard par 4, albeit it does come after a long 200 yard par 3. It's not very challenging, although I played horribly. It does not look like they put much effort into upkeep. That said there are worse choices. But there are many far better public courses in the area. I will definitely take this course off my play list. read more

The price is the same as any other golf course for 9 holes walking its 21. I really like this course, it is well maintained especially this year. Last year i wasn't impressed a lot of dead grass. This year, the course is in top shape and its my favorite course to play in the area this year. The back 9 is hilly and makes for a challenging finish. Lots of difficult tee shots. The par 5 17, is ridiculously hilly just hope you don't get it in the between the hills. read more

The course is less than exciting but the prices aren't high. $29 w/ a cart for 9 is inexpensive compared to Fresh Pond in Cambridge or other near by courses. I just played the front 9 and the layout is good and fun for your average weekend or beginner golfer. That said, the fairways had many bare spots. We have just come off a dry run, but the fairways looked like long-term damage; in many places large patches of dirt with weeds. Just watering isn't going to fix it; they need to be re-seeded or something. The greens and tees though were in pretty decent shape. Rates were comparable to other muni courses. The driving range was mats-only but at least they were good mats. If you're a big hitter (most here are not) your drives would go out the back of the range - the last sign was at 225 yds with only a little distance beyond it. read more

Just an utterly unexciting course. I mean it's just a boring course to play. There's no real variation between holes; it's just boring to play. Most of the greens were decent but a couple were very dried out when I went and the tee boxes were not mowed recently. I don't usually complain about beaten up tee boxes because they don't effect gameplay, just aesthetics. But tee boxes with long grass, on the other hand, really tend to screw up my already lackluster driving ability. Also, there are no water coolers on the course! (At least the front 9.) The staff was friendly and the pace of play was pretty good, but these factors were not enough to make up for the fact that Hillview is just a lackluster golf course overall. read more

Not worth the relatively high price as it is very poorly maintained, dirt tees on half the holes, at least 6 tee boxes where you can easily be hit by an oncoming shot to adjacent greens, 5.5+ hour round, had to wait for carts and then another group grabbed carts and got in front of us and the starter did nothing. This was my first and last time, my friends have played several times and will not return. Too bad the course could be fun if the management put some effort into it. read more

Don't waste your time or money. Overpriced for patchy fairways, dirt tee boxes, ball marks on every green and gravel sand traps. The play is slow because almost everyone there is over 75, the ones who are younger were wearing jeans and t-shirts. If you're a 30 handicap or higher then you'll enjoy yourself but even then if you love the game at take it seriously you'll be disappointed.
