Tom and his crew are the best. Today my wife hit a curb and ripped the sidewall of the tire on our month old car. Needless to say she was extremely upset and frantic. Tom calmed her and reassured everything would be fine. Within two hours he had a new tire mounted and balanced and she was on her way. I am a 4th year medical student at NYMC, which is a couple of miles from Hillside Service Center. I have been coming to this place since my first year for anything from oil changes to motor mounts changes and other minor repairs. I often can get my car in the morning I call and pick it up at the end of the day. They often give me a ride back to school during the morning, but then I ask a ride to a friend to pick up the car. I don't know much about mechanics but I know how much I paid in CA for similar services and it's on par, if not cheaper. The owner can come across as rough around the edges on the phone initially, but he is a sweetheart and a very hard worker. He always tries to find ways to make it cheaper for me because he knows I am a student. My car is Ford Focus 2004 and has not required any major repairs since I moved to the east coast 3 years ago (shipped it here), despite the mercurial weather and snow. I really think it's because of their excellent service. In sum, I highly recommend them. read more

I've gotten my car inspection here for the last 3 yrs. Great place. A lot of people come here. It's perfectly located right next door to Pat's Deli. Get a bite to eat while you wait. The owner is very nice. I believe he owns the school bus lot across the street. We always socialize when I'm there but I cant remember his name. Really tall man, always hands on; either directing cars when it gets crowded or pumping gas for the full service area. read more

I never post reviews, but Tom and his crew were great so I had to give them a shout out. They're very friendly and you can tell they're much loved among the community. I came for an oil change and figured I'd wait around rather than bothering my friends for rides back to school. They were friendly to everybody and knew just about everyone who came by. I have been getting car inspected and my oil changed here for two years and find Tom and his crew very friendly, helpful and reasonable. They charge fair prices (sometimes I'm surprised they don't charge more!) and they never have surprise add-on costs. Furthermore, they let you know if they saw something but always tell you how urgent it is and if it can wait, so you never feel pressured to fix something right away. I am now writing this review because of how awesome they were when my car had a problem and needed more than an oil change and inspection. My car had multiple problems (trouble starting, intermittent stalling at low speeds, broken clock and broken window) and I had taken it to a garage in the city (because I live there) where I was told a bunch of things needed replacing and they kept my car for three days but still hadn't fixed it when I gave up, paid the garage for "diagnostics" (even though nothing was fixed) and took my car out of there and brought it up to Tom hoping he could help. He was awesome. Fixed it in one day and said the problems were much simpler than the guys in the city had told me. He diagnosed the problems AND FIXED them for only $30 more than the guys in the city charged me for just looking at my car. He was very nice and reasonable. I left with my car driving smoother than ever and no longer worrying that it could break down. I'm really happy and highly recommend Tom and the Hillside crew. read more

Tom Stuart has to be the most honest mechanic I've ever encountered in my 72 years of life. Usually you go to a mechanic and the first few visits they are reasonable. Then, once they rope you in, they jack the price up; not Tom. I've been dealing with him for over 10 years. Won't take my cars to any other mechanic. He can be cranky at times but overlook that; he's the best. You won't regret doing business with him. read more

Tommy is honest and does great work which is hard to find in a mechanic,he was able to diagnose a problem in my wife's car,which turned out to be a defective engine mount where others said it was the wheel bearings, will be taking my cars to him in the future. read more
