Can't say enough about Tom and his crew. Nice, honest, and careful. I was directed to them by word of mouth when I relocated my business to Valhalla. Tom has often told me what I DID NOT NEED to do to my car. He gets plenty of business and is not out to make a sale. I recommend him at every opportunity. Also - great place to go for tires for a great value without the hassle of the so-called specialist cookie-cutter places . 100% Recommendation. Rick A. read more

Tom is the best and most honest mechanic you could ever ask for. I 'be been going to him for over 20 years! read more

I have had excellent service here the past few years. They have fixed every issue my car has had and they charge a fair price. They have also been nice and never pushed a service I didn't need. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

I am a PIA and always complainabout the price and he deals with me.. Good work, good personality and you can trust him

Very reliable. Wouldn't take my car anywhere else. Excellent service and professional read more

Tom and his crew are the best. Today my wife hit a curb and ripped the sidewall of the tire on our month old car. Needless to say she was extremely upset and frantic. Tom calmed her and reassured everything would be fine. Within two hours he had a new tire mounted and balanced and she was on her way. I can't thank Tom and his men enough for this unsheduled repair on such a hot day in such a short time. read more

I am a 4th year medical student at NYMC, which is a couple of miles from Hillside Service Center. I have been coming to this place since my first year for anything from oil changes to motor mounts changes and other minor repairs. I often can get my car in the morning I call and pick it up at the end of the day. They often give me a ride back to school during the morning, but then I ask a ride to a friend to pick up the car. I don't know much about mechanics but I know how much I paid in CA for similar services and it's on par, if not cheaper. The owner can come across as rough around the edges on the phone initially, but he is a sweetheart and a very hard worker. He always tries to find ways to make it cheaper for me because he knows I am a student. My car is Ford Focus 2004 and has not required any major repairs since I moved to the east coast 3 years ago (shipped it here), despite the mercurial weather and snow. I really think it's because of their excellent service. In sum, I highly recommend them. read more

Hillside is the best. We have a fleet of cars that Tom and his team maintain for us. They are not only very responsive but skilled and fair too. We wouldn't consider going anywhere else. read more

I've gotten my car inspection here for the last 3 yrs. Great place. A lot of people come here. It's perfectly located right next door to Pat's Deli. Get a bite to eat while you wait. The owner is very nice. I believe he owns the school bus lot across the street. We always socialize when I'm there but I cant remember his name. Really tall man, always hands on; either directing cars when it gets crowded or pumping gas for the full service area. read more

I never post reviews, but Tom and his crew were great so I had to give them a shout out. They're very friendly and you can tell they're much loved among the community. I came for an oil change and figured I'd wait around rather than bothering my friends for rides back to school. They were friendly to everybody and knew just about everyone who came by. They got me in and out of there a lot faster than I was expecting, and had much more reasonable pricing than I've seen anywhere else in the area (thank you Tom). Overall, highly recommend! read more

I have been getting car inspected and my oil changed here for two years and find Tom and his crew very friendly, helpful and reasonable. They charge fair prices (sometimes I'm surprised they don't charge more!) and they never have surprise add-on costs. Furthermore, they let you know if they saw something but always tell you how urgent it is and if it can wait, so you never feel pressured to fix something right away. I am now writing this review because of how awesome they were when my car had a problem and needed more than an oil change and inspection. My car had multiple problems (trouble starting, intermittent stalling at low speeds, broken clock and broken window) and I had taken it to a garage in the city (because I live there) where I was told a bunch of things needed replacing and they kept my car for three days but still hadn't fixed it when I gave up, paid the garage for "diagnostics" (even though nothing was fixed) and took my car out of there and brought it up to Tom hoping he could help. He was awesome. Fixed it in one day and said the problems were much simpler than the guys in the city had told me. He diagnosed the problems AND FIXED them for only $30 more than the guys in the city charged me for just looking at my car. He was very nice and reasonable. I left with my car driving smoother than ever and no longer worrying that it could break down. I'm really happy and highly recommend Tom and the Hillside crew. read more

Highest quality service at a fair price. We trust the owner and his crew 100% with both our vehicles. Cars are always ready on time and never any additional charges in quoted work, quite the opposite they look out for your vehicles preventive maintenance and give us advanced warning letting us know next oil change we will need new tires or wipers etc. Absolutely recommend this service station. read more

Tommy is honest and does great work which is hard to find in a mechanic,he was able to diagnose a problem in my wife's car, which turned out to be a defective engine mount where others said it was the wheel bearings, will be taking my cars to him in the future. read more

Tom Stuart has to be the most honest mechanic I've ever encountered in my 72 years of life. Usually you go to a mechanic and the first few visits they are reasonable. Then, once they rope you in, they jack the price up; not Tom. I've been dealing with him for over 10 years. Won't take my cars to any other mechanic. He can be cranky at times but overlook that; he's the best. You won't regret doing business with him. read more

Tom and his team at Hillside are amazing. We're new to the area and needed to find a reliable place to service our cars. We've used them for smaller jobs over the last couple years, but had our brakes and battery replaced today. They did it quickly and efficiently and at a fair price - and we trust their judgment. They event got us in same day (we needed our car fixed ASAP for an upcoming road trip. If you're looking for an honest, reliable team, look here! read more

I was interested in buying a car from Craigslist but wanted a pre-purchase inspection. Tommy said I could come in any time, so I did, he took the car in right away, and did a pre-purchase inspection for a really reasonable price. He is honest, knowledgable, informative, and helped me from making a big mistake. I am very pleased with the prompt, friendly service and highly recommend him. read more

Came recommended to me when I was need of quick help with some faulty tires (Thank you winter 2014 and potholes) Quick to help fix my problem, barely waited any time at all. Full service gas is a bonus of course! read more

In honest, the owner is not nice to the stranger and non-native language speaker, he likes to deal with his neither and his friends, because his business is on the local person. Also, he charges you more than the actual service. Don't go to there if you can find somewhere else. read more

Hillside is a trustworthy, reliable shop. Tom Stuart and his team will tell you what needs fixing, what can wait, and what you don't need. This is as good a garage as you'll find anywhere. For all the times I took my car here, they never misdiagnosed a problem or didn't catch something that could have been a huge problem if not addressed quickly. I've found them to be highly ethical, extremely competent, and truly diligent in finding the solution to problems that seem impossible to solve. read more

I have been a customer for years. Tom was recommended by a transmission shop for a tune-up. He is honest, straight forward and reliable. In the past he has told me when it was time to get rid of a vehicle and when an auto dealer was not being honest (which never happens) about supposed issues they identified. He and his team can handle most anything and he will give you a fair appraisal of the issue(s) and the costs and timelines to fix. It is rare to find a mechanic and shop that consistently provide top quality work and customer service at a reasonable rate. read more
