My husband and I triple checked with the waitress that if I ate the 'gluten free Riverton pizza' would I be safe? She assured me multiple times yes that I would be. When I asked "is it baked in a separate pizza oven?" She replied "do not worry about cross contamination". She basically dodged the answer 'no' it wouldn't be in separate gluten free oven. But I took her word for it because I am a server also at the Belden house and mews, in litchfield. We are trained to take allergies seriously. If the answer was that 'sorry it's in the same oven as regular pizza' I would have gotten a salad to be safe. But again, I trusted that there was no cross contamination. However, I immediately got sick after one slice, had to cut dinner short, went home and immediately went to bed cutting my visit short with my out of town relatives. I'm just very disappointed that she didn't take my allergy seriously resulting in my evening being ruined when a simple solution of me getting a salad instead would have been better. This happened last night (Friday 8/14 at 6p.m.) I just hope next time when someone has an allergy she takes it seriously. I live right in town half a mile from the inn and now I can't eat there ever again.

The biggest difference from what we normally do is that there was no TV or WiFi. It turned out we survived, nay, thrived without either. We drove around the historic and beautiful countryside, enjoyed a vegetarian breakfast each morning. We were given a bottle of Proseco the first night along with a bottle of home made rose brandy made by the matriarch of the family, that acted like a sleeping potion that night. It was delicious brandy made woth rose and lavender. The alpacas were a delight and I actually go to pet some and get some real closeups of these gentle creatures. Our room was rustic as all getout and incredibly clean and cozy warm. The farm is convenient to wineries, restaurants, historic New Bedford and some real beautiful lakes and woodlands. Believe me, by the time we got finished traveling around western CT all day, we just aout had the energy to go to dinner at some of the dozens of reataurants in the area (reviewed elsewhere). We plan on going back in some warmer weather so we can introduce our parrot to the alpacas. The only thing we missed this trip were the pot bellied pigs, which evedently don't take too well to the cold February temperatures and the snow.

The loft is very cozy and spacious. We've spent the weekend exploring Kent and Lake Waramaug. Coming home to alpacas every day and waking up to them each morning was a real treat I think our dog had more fun than we did! If you are expecting a 5 star hotel this place is not for you. It's a loft above a barn where the alpacas stay. This place is truly for someone who is low key and just wants to relax & enjoy nature. The bed is incredibly comfortable, the shower has hot water, the AC is pumping (in mid-July with a lot of humidity), and there are fresh towels when you arrive. Sal also has a recommendation for everything so be sure to ask him about his favorite local spots! One thing I wish we did was bring a cooler and beach towels. We went to Lake Waramaug for the day and we were not prepared. Otherwise our stay on the farm was unique and relaxing!! If you like exploring nature and love the company of different animals, highly recommend you visit Bella Alpaca.

We dined with a small party in a private room, warm and comfy, and boasting elegant, polished service from a sharp and friendly team of servers. Excellent. For Easter, we were given a prix fixe menu ($150 per) that provided some fine choices among appetizers, entrees and desserts. The appetizers included octopus, quail and some super tasty (and NOT overcooked) seared tuna. Delicious. The entrees included duck and chicken but all of us deferred to the tenderloin which was perfectly cooked to our preference, tender and ... well, just what we wanted. Add in the desserts and the drinks -- lots of specialty beverages. all on the pricey side -- and we were totally satisfied. Not a complaint in the group. Winvian is very private, You can't just stroll in. Reservations are necessary, and you'll need to get buzzed in. Once there, however, the well-trained staff provide first-class treatment, thoughtful and never obtrusive. It is a grand experience -- but it is expensive. Definitely for special occasions.

They have a Dunkin' Donuts in the same parking lot as the hotel which is extremely convenient. There is also a Starbucks directly across the street and several other stores within close proximity, like a Target and Longhorn Steakhouse about two blocks away. The interior of the hotel itself is nice enough, although some things appear a bit outdated, like the creaky elevator. I stayed on the 3rd floor and when walking down the hallway on the 3rd floor, the carpeted floor itself was extremely creaky to where you could hear me coming from all the way down the hall. The room was nice and the beds were comfortable but what I found odd was there is one master light switch which has to be flipped on, otherwise no lights will turn on in the entire room. I forgot about the master switch one night and could not figure out why the lights in the bathroom weren't turning on in the middle of the night. There is a small gym area and an indoor pool, both of which I did not use on this trip. 3/5 stars for a beautiful location with lots of trees surrounding it and a Dunkin' in the same parking lot. But the slightly outdated interior, creaky floors and unusual master light switch situation brings the rating down.

The king suite was a carbon copy of our prior room, well maintained and satisfied our needs though we were disappointed that photos of the room showed a walk-in shower while ours had a shower/tub combination. There was a light fixture in the living room that was not working so a call was placed with the front desk and a staff member arrived within 5 minutes. We did note that the pool was unavailable throughout our stay due to maintenance though we never saw anyone performing any maintenance. Having remembered the issues encounered during a prior stay at another location, we brought food that did not require an oven and our own toilet paper. The breakfast was once again quite good with a variety of choices including make your own tacos and burritos.
