Matthes is tucked away on Lulu in the middle of the Ida farmland, an area my wife and I know well from our younger years. (Wave to the cows and horses) The setup on a Wednesday afternoon was wide open and wonderful. There were about 50 pre-cut trees of every variety staked on display near the front of the property by the big parking lot, and you could also venture out into the great unknown if you wanted something that they hadn't already chosen for display. We were lucky enough to find a PERFECT 7' Fraser for our living room right up front, and after carrying it up to the bailing area, they put it on a "shaker" to shake off all the excess pine needles. (Genius!) It was $4 to have our tree bailed, nice and tight, and that allowed us to easily wrap it with the provided string and tie down to our roof. We were out the door with a perfect tree and tip for our helper for $80. Honestly, there were probably only about four other customers there during our visit, but there were port-a-potties and snack area, etc for the big weekend crowds. They also had several, beautifully handmade wreaths hanging for sale. The smell of this thick-branched, sappy Fraser pine has filled our home in less than 24 hours. Start a tradition and buy local. You'll be glad you did.

Gorgeous, symmetrical trees that are healthy, kept trimmed and thriving. They're reasonably-priced (literally half the cost of what we found in the Woodward co as pre cut trees in the metro Detroit area). Their rows are all orderly, well maintained, with mowed grass in between. Their barn is so cozy and beautiful. It's a perfect mix of new and modern with rustic. We felt like it was out of a catalogue. Their items inside ranged from popcorn and candied nuts to handmade hot chocolate bombs, beautifully knit hats, tees and sweatshirts of the tree farm's logo, beautiful tree trunk/bark ornaments hand-cut with messages or designs such as the 2022 year, a snowflake, Merry Christmas, Let It Snow, etc. it all felt really special and beautiful. We had the best time. They have excellent service from the tree cutting and wrapping process to the indoor barn portion, and it's very personal and feels like great vibes. Oh, they also have the most picture perfect photo backdrop, with a sleigh, decorated Christmas trees, lights, and a little sign "2022" for your family photos. WOW!!! We picked out our tree and then a worker came to cut down and tag the tree. The employees there were friendly and the whole tree experience was fun! They take the tree and wrap it for you and then you pick up the tree. The line to pick up the tree was a bit congested and DID take a long time to get through but they had other activities you can do as well. After we picked the tree, they had Santa waiting for the kids to meet which was nice. There was no line when we went so it was great to be able to see Santa and not have to rush through. They also had hot dogs and hot cocoa along with a campfire to warm yourself. And they offered a ride around the farm for free as well. Such a fun experience!

We had cut ours as well and laid them next to each other. While trying to get a tree wagon and/or our truck to get closer to load the trees someone came by and took the tree my father had cut. I am the guy that ran down the hill and tried to confront whoever STOLE, my Dad's tree. As we told the older man in Brown jacket what happened he responded with, " Don't come back."
