Similar to Gatsby looking at the green light, I'd spotted this lighthouse from the Lauderdale by the Sea pier. So when I was in the Lighthouse Pointe area, I decided to drive up and explore. It turns out that the lighthouse proper is inside a private community that hosts monthly tours as well as special events. However, the security guard of this community pointed out that the lighthouse can be seen clearly from the Hillsboro Inlet Park a few blocks over. This is a pocket park right on A1A, with a parking lot (keep in mind, it is enforced even on weekends). However, in times of Rona the park is open until 11PM. The park itself has a swing & slides for the young and young at heart, a pavillion building that has the bathroom as well as a lighthouse museum, and a water taxi spot. There's also a painted fitness track on the sidewalk, and the park is secluded enough that even the umm young at heart can umm play #nocomment I mean the water views can be romantic with the right company. From what I understand, the water taxi spot is running only limited hours during "That which shall not be named" so hopefully that fifth star will come soon! However, most of the pier is open to walking and fishing. You can see the other boats running past. The highlight for someone exploring by themselves is of course the view of the lighthouse and a few park monuments. They have a pretty cool fish statue, an anchor sculpture and a bell memorializing previous lighthouse keepers. So take your camera with the correct motion settings and you can get good views of the lighthouse including some lightbeam pictures (with the correct shutter speed.) Or if it's a full moon, bring good company. There's a nearby plaza with a couple of casual date friendly restaurants.

If you're looking for a quiet place to hang out aside from the beach most definitely come here. This place has a park for kids to enjoy, benches to sit on to enjoy the beautiful view of the lighthouse and gorgeous mansions across the waterway. There is also a water taxi at this park and you can take to go to different locations that it takes you down to Fort Lauderdale. And watch out for those huge pelicans! Some are not friendly, so snap a picture when you can.

I've come here so many times to go fishing. I have to be honest though, the only thing I've ever caught was bait fish. I've caught fish everywhere else I've gone multiple times but for some reason I have no luck here. Despite that, I still enjoy coming here. The sunrise views are always amazing. There's lots of space for fishing. It's always a pretty quiet and laid back spot. It's fun to watch all the boats go by while you're there. The bathrooms are always kept clean and the water fountains have always been cold. Now that the Pompano Beach pier is back open, this spot seems a little less crowded again. Definitely a recommended spot for relaxed fishing and not worrying about crossing lines. Parking spaces are limited though so you should try getting there really early.

I love this small park. It's the best spot to view the Hillsboro Lighthouse and get amazing pictures of it from across the inlet. Amenities in the park include a small playground for the kids that includes a slide and swing, benches, picnic pavilion, short piers for fishing, Pompano water taxi pick up, and all kinds of interesting nods to Pompano's mariner past like a large anchor and a plaque dedicated to the keepers of the lighthouse. There is even a small museum dedicated to the lighthouse located on the backside of the bathroom that is run by the Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society and keeps select hours posted on the door. On the day I was there a fleet of small sailboats raced by the lighthouse and under the bridge. We watched as one capsized and it's sailor worked to get it right again. On top of the bridge is a statue of the barefoot mailman. If you are unfamiliar with the history of the area it refers to the people who carried the mail along the first mail route between the Palm Beaches and Miami from 1885-1892. The mailmen traveled the 28 mile route by boat and by walking on the sand barefoot, hence the name. There is a much larger statue of a barefoot mailman at the base of the lighthouse. The view from the park is beautiful. On any given day you will see boats of all kinds hanging out in the inlet as well as pelicans hoping to get a bite of the fisherman's catch. You must pay for parking with a meter. One other thing to note is I avoid this park at night. Even though I like to see the lighthouse at night when the light is shooting it's beam across the darkened ocean the crowd of people in the park changes at night from families to homeless.

In normal times this is a lovely park during these crazy covid-19 times this park is spectacular! It's a great place to go even now just to walk, to look out at the water, see the boats go by, look at the beautiful lighthouse, say hello to people sit in your car, whatever. During normal times you can do all that and you can actually sit, you can let your children play in the playground, there are picnic tables and grills where you can BBQ I've done it a few times with an old friend and it's a very pleasant pretty place to go by yourself, with a friend, bring your dog on a leash, some people like to fish off the little pier...I don't like to fish but it's a very serene & clean park. you do have to pay a parking meter unless you have a handicap placard or tag.

A very cute park with a tiny parking lot that only has a dozen parking spaces. And yes, they enforce the parking meters here as we saw someone drive by checking. A sand lot with monkey bars and the like for the kids and a short dock for the fishermen and women. As well, bathrooms if you're into the public bathroom thing. Nice view of the lighthouse, but you'll get a better view if you head down to Canada House though there's no public parking there.

What a great spot to sit and contemplate life or just watch boats and fish. Plenty of picnics. Friendly people abound. Truly a relaxing spot.

Picturesque little park on the water overseeing the Hillsboro inlet. A wonderful place to relax and watch boaters going from the intercoastal out into the sea and back, the park offers great view of the Lighthouse. There is a playground, benches, a few tables and grills, the park is small and clean, and you can usually find several fishermen trying for a lucky catch.

Rumor has it it came in late at night about 20+ got off and it's. Even here ever since tsk tsk Florida/ Broward

Across the inlet from the picturesque Hillsboro Lighthouse and just before crossing the inlet drawbridge, you'll find this little gem of a park. It's modern and clean with free parking and amenities such as a small playground for the little ones, plenty of benches, a short boardwalk and pier and restrooms. This is a nice spot to read a book, have a picnic lunch or just sit and watch the boats come into the inlet from the ocean. A nice breeze always blows here. The parking lot is small, though. This is as close as you're going to by car unless you're a member of the private Hillsboro Club. If you're hungry, there is a bagel shop across the street from the park.

Just wanted people to watch out for the driver of this vehicle. He molest himself in public and may be looking at you.

The best part is all the gear and equipment and bait is included for all paying guests. There's several trip options to choose from. Early morning, during the days and their late night trip. We have done all, and I prefer the late nights. The water is calmer, it's not as hot, and it's pretty relaxing if you ask me. The business operates daily, weather permitting. The boats are pretty big, they seem to be able to hold about 30 persons on the fishing level. There's an upper deck for a smaller fee, for people who do not want to fish, but go along for the ride. You're welcome to keep whatever you catch, depending the size of course. Once we cough a nurse shark, we were not able to keep it, but it sure had eveyone taking onboard! You're also allowed to bring your meals and drinks on board. It's definitely a party if you make friends with your neighbors and enjoy the tour. I'll definitely continue using this company for years to come.

The boat trip begins in the scenic intracoastal passing by stunning mansions until hitting the ocean by Port Everglades. As a novice myself, the crew is informative and helpful in teaching how to use the rod, fixing issues such as lines being tangled or snapped hooks, and identifying the fish. Cool learning experience too. They showed us a sucker fish as it strapped to the boat walls before setting her free. We went on a Friday at 7:30pm. The boat wasn't too packed and we claimed the front. Between 3 of us, we took home 4 fish. We caught a bunch more that were tossed back in the water -- baby sharks, and many fish that weren't of proper size. Great adventure even if you don't catch any fish. A very peaceful view of the skyline looking east and we caught moonrise to the west. Nice ocean breeze! After returning, they scaled and gutted the fishies for some fun cooking ahead.

It generally sails 3 times a day with a morning, afternoon and evening trips of around 4 hours each. They provide you with rod, reel, bait and a fishing license is unnecessary. The times I've gone out on it were OK, but for drift fishing, the boat was somewhat overcrowded on those occasions. Hence, I would say the best times might be off season when there are fewer people around. I won't comment on the catch since that is generally a situation of the fish being cooperative, certainly not the lack of skill or in any way the fault of the ship, the crew or the fishermen.

The Helen S is a my favorite boat but the Fish City Pride is a perfect alternative. I prefer to fish the morning trips so that I'm at the marina early enough to watch all the boats and marine life. The staff are like family. Very helpful and always excited to see people catch fish. The mates are knowledgeable and quick to help with fish and tangles. The captains know all the best spots to fish and will personally clean your fish for you back at the dock. Other fishing charters include a 45 minute boat ride to the fishing hole. With this company, you've got lines in the water 10 minutes after leaving the marina. This means you get a full extra hour of fishing unlike the Ft Lauderdale based charters. They provide everything you need to fish. All you need is your sunglasses, sunblock, a sandwich, and something to drink. This is a alcohol free boat so leave the beer at home.

Sit right back and I'll tell you a fish story about the iconic Deerfield Beach Pier. Th first…read morewooden Deerfield fishing pier was built 1951-1952. Low and close to the water, it was a place for the community to gather and fish. In 1956 the pier was purchased by Robert Jahn, from Mt. Vernon, New York. Local, Joe Cass was hired as the pier manager. He added a restaurant, tackle shop, and chum machine to which he added a special mixture of meat, oil, and oatmeal which kept the fish coming and lured in the fishermen too. Hurricane Donna wiped out the pier in 1960. City commissioners proposed a bond issue to replace it and on August 1, 1963, a new wooden 720 foot pier with concrete pilings was dedicated. Through the years different people leased the pier but none were able to turn a profit. The last lessee, Charlie Thompson turned the pier back over to the city and became the pier manager. He was able to make the pier profitable for the first time with events like fishing contests. In 1976 during a tour of South Florida, President Gerald Ford stopped by at Charlie's invitation. It was his proudest accomplishment and Charlie retired from duty in 1988. Today the pier is 970 feet long and attracts thousands of sightseers and fishermen a year. The pier is open 6 AM to 11 PM daily. They ask that people who are fishing keep a minimum of 10 feet apart. The pier also has a souvenir and bait shop sells bait, tackle, fishing accessories and rents fishing rods. My favorite thing about the Deerfield Beach Pier is actually free and you don't even have to go there in person. At the pier, the city operates 3 live stream cameras, the pier camera, the beach camera, and my favorite, the world famous spinner sea camera where you can watch the fish swim right up to it. This feed is shown on the bait shop wall and online. To see the cameras you just have to go to the pier website. During my last visit I was disappointed with the condition of the pier. I paid $2, which granted is not a lot of money but you couldn't even walk to the end of the pier because it was closed off by a gate. The only one using the end of the pier were the pelicans. The pier was also dirty and smelly. Fast forward to my visit this weekend and the pier is looking better than ever now that phase one and two of reconstruction have been completed. You can walk all the way to end and there are new benches and fish cleaning stations. Best of all is that you can fish and walk the pier for free until January. I even ran into a film crew. A few finishing touches are still being completed including The Break House, a new kitchen and beach bar that will be soon be opening next to the entrance of the pier. Come out and enjoy this iconic Deerfield Beach landmark while the weather is gorgeous and it is free to visit.

The other fishermen near us were kind and respectful. The only con is that parking near the dock is way too little. We arrived at 5:30am, 30min before the dock opened, but it started to fill up around 6:00am. Be warned, otherwise you pay for parking at the garage.
