Oh yeah: let's not forget Rita's Asian Greens whose stall seems to go on and on and on and on full of healthy fruit and veg. Since it started there have been other great people selling their wares and the one i REALLY want to get to visit is their latest Tahlula's Eclectic Bazaar: now she has some seriously goovy incense, healing stones and other magical things. A friend of mine (who goes regularly) showed me a photo of the most ENORMOUS slide for the kids: big and little. I love the idea of shopping bulk! As a participant of Plastic Free July this year, I decided to…read moredrop in to my local bulk food store before buying from Coles or Woolies. I brought my own containers and the woman behind the counter weighed them for me and wrote the tare on them. I was able to buy most everything I needed in bulk here, which was really exciting. I bought organic red lentils, organic rolled oats, organic popping corn, and a little jar of raw organic cacao. The total for that shop was $36. I went back a few days later to buy some organic acai powder. I bought one of the little jars from the shop, which was really handy. I love the concept of this store, but there is a downside. The products are much more expensive than their packaged counterparts from Coles. I filled a little jar half way with acai powder, and it cost $15 (plus $2.50 for the little jar). The bulk bags they have available are $5 each. I am happy that bulk is becoming more accessible, but with prices like this, we still have a long way to go to make it accessible to the public - it will be hard to convince people to give up plastic in favor of bulk food when it's so much more expensive. Nonetheless, I will continue to shop bulk as much as I can afford. I believe in voting with my dollar, and bulk food stores with organic foods is where its at!

The market on the 4th Sunday has a much better selection of stalls so you should choose this one shop , I wouldn't bother with the other one on the 2nd Saturday of the month. I highly recommend that you try the following beautiful fresh farm eggs - they taste divine any of the goats cheese from Willowbrae you can find in the stall inside in th hall freshly picked flowers - always good quality- if you ask the owner, she will give you tips on how to keep them alive as long as possible the brownies from the brownie lady inside the hall - all options are delicious and you can buy different sizes to suit your needs the olives - also inside the hall. I recommend the big green olives - they are delicious they also have organic vegetables milk beef, lamb, duck, producers there as well as a few pastry stalls with gerat pies cakes and delicious breads all in all, a good selection. My husband only comes to the markets to eat the bacon and egg rolls and get a fresh orange juice - he says they are both the best he has tasted go to the stall which has the long line of hungry people.

Most places seemed to have major lack of anything fresh looking but there were more options here. I mean, it's def not WF or Sprouts but it was great compared to anything we'd come by in the prior two weeks. After all, being relatively the best is still the best. The store was easy to find and only about a mile away from the main strip of Manly but that was far enough away that the crowds didn't come over. Private lot outside that was mostly full but there were cars coming in and out so wasn't awful.

In terms of organic beauty Taste have a decent range - Dr Hauschka, Weleda, Trilogy, Suki to name but a few. They have some men's ranges, plenty of natural soaps, hair dyes, pamper products and baby care skin care. Beyond beauty they have a fantastic range of health foods. I've bought gluten free baking powder, lentil pasta, sprouted bread, coconut yoghurt, seaweed snacks, organic teas, coffees and chocolate - pretty much anything you can think of that Wholefoods might have these guys do too. The difference is, though the shelves are most certainly full, it doesn't feel crammed or stuffy in here. As well as packaged goods there is also a decent selection of fresh organic fruit and veg. It's obviously more expensive than supermarket produce but it tastes more alive. There is a fairly energetic come feisty in-house naturapath in store there most days who is a wealth of information and pretty good at sales (my personal trainer sister walked out with four treatments for her dermatitis). There is a fairly good range of vitamin and minerals. The staff are gentle, sweet and helpful. If you fancy a fresh organic fair trade juice or coffee they can whip one up for you to enjoy on the tables and chairs outside. Mind you, this right on Falcon Street so the car fumes don't bode well for your organic snack - unless it goes straight down the hatchet, that is. Parking available underground on the premises.
