Unsafe -- the dental hygienist lost floss in my teeth. I was there for two hours. The dentist tried to dig it out, couldn't, and said if it causes issues to come back. When have you ever had a dentist do this?? Shockingly incompetent and odd. Scammy - four months after this, I was billed for unknown charges from them. They won't reply to any messages about the charges. Do they do this to everyone? Submit vague charges months later and hope people don't notice? read more

I left an original review but I'm not sure what happened to it. I have been putting off the dentist for over 10 years due to insurance reasons. A week ago I had EXTREME tooth pain which forced me to find an emergency dentist. On my first appointment I came in contact with Marlen (front receptionist), Michael (dental assistant), Sharon (hygienist), the doctor and of course Dawn who btw called me on a SUNDAY to confirm my emergency appointment. Overall my first visit was great, mostly x-rays and questions. I left with antibiotics for my tooth pain and an appointment in 1 week for a deep cleaning. Fast forward to today. My first deep cleaning in over 10 years. I was extremely nervous and scared but Ellie ( THE VERY BEST HYGIENIST ) explained everything before starting. She gave me options regarding numbing (I ended up only using a topical) and the entire process was amazing. I felt no pain what's so ever , she was very quick , and she made sure I was comfortable the entire time. The right side of my teeth feel 10 years younger and I'm excited to come back and get my oral health back in control. Yesterday was my first procedure at Hillcrest Dental. I needed a 40yr old bridge removed for a new one. I am a very nervous and anxiety person so I opted for the nitrous oxide (laughing gas). I was made very comfortable with a neck rest, a fan to cool me and a mouth support for my jaw since the procedure took about 3 hours. I was given a few breaks in-between to sip some water for my dry throat. I can not say enough about the extraordinary staff and doctor who gave me all the easing comforts I needed. During the whole procedure I was constantly encouraged I was doing good, great and asked if I needed anything. The service that was provided went above and beyond the service any other dental office has ever provided me. I would like to thank the who team who took care of me with outstanding service and support. I also have a second bridge that I need installed and have full confidence that the same support will be offered so generously. So, for anyone who is looking or hesitant about dental work this is the best Dental Practice I have ever been to!! Again, thank you everyone!! read more

I feel so lucky to have found this place. Naturally, the pain hit me on the weekend. I made the appointment for Monday through Zocdoc and I NEVER expected to be contacted by a real live human, actually from their office, on a Sunday. Miraculously, Dawn immediately contacted me after I made the appointment. She is a saint. Seriously. So Monday comes (not a moment too soon) and I go to their office, where I immediately feel calmer than I thought I would at a dentist. Right? Normally, I'd be breaking out in a cold sweat in the parking lot. These people are so amazing. I feel calm, welcomed, and I trust them. That's a big deal. We've all been to crappy dentists. This is the complete opposite of that. I feel they really care for me, and I will come back here for ALL of my dental care from now on. read more

The staff was very friendly and welcoming and the hygienist was very gentle. She talked through every step and made sure I was comfortable by offering me sunglasses and a blanket. Dr Nalani the new dentist is horrible. She did not discuss all my options with me. She reassured me that my tooth could be saved with a root canal and crown. Talked me into an expensive procedure. Tortured me for two hours only to tell me that she couldn't save my tooth. Then, after two hours of torture, she looked me straight in the face and told me that she was gonna leave the rotten roots in my mouth and cover it with a temporary filling and monitor my symptoms, as if my tooth was gonna miraculously cure itself so far they still charged me $2400 for a root canal and crown. And all they did was torture me for two hours and end up pulling the tooth anyway, she's terrible at numbing people up. It was the most painful experience I've ever had in my 46 years of going to the dentist. I don't know how she got her dental license if you have the slightest fear of going to the dentist avoid this place, because you will be traumatized in the end. She should have told me from the beginning instead of waiting till after she tried two hours of root canal that once she got in there, she still might not be able to save the tooth because then I would have just opted to pull the tooth from the beginning instead of letting her dig in my mouth and have to numb me up three times which was the most painful I have ever had. Do not trust anything anybody tells you in that office . And the hygienist is terrible too. The office manager was the dental assistant too. Feels very unsafe. I don't know how she got her license to practice dentistry. Must have been online . read more

Visiting from Ohio and had emergency dental need. This is my daughter's dentist and she speaks very highly of him. Got me in quickly and from the moment I walked in I felt very welcomed and comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly from the front desk to the assistant. Upon meeting the dentist I felt very comfortable. He listened and explained everything that he could do to get me back to Ohio with minimal pain. He spent quite a bit of time fixing all he could and making my smile look good. I had broken a tooth right in the front. I would make this my dentist and dental office if I ever moved to this area! Been going here for two years now. I have perfect set of healthy teeth but have gum disease. I was educated how some people lose their teeth not because of bad teeth but because of a gum disease. And unfortunately I am one of few people who I don't have a control of what's going on with my gums. It has something to do with genetics. I did not want to lose my teeth in 8-10 years time. So we worked on how should I care of my teeth and gums, not the usual way. The only dentist I will go to while I live in Orlando. I've been going to Hillcrest for my entire life. No, I'm not exaggerating. 25 years. It's our local family dentist. My grandmother started at Hillcrest back when it was owned by Dr. Hodges. She started taking my father when he was very young. And my mother, and then myself and my brother followed suit. Hillcrest has handled so many procedures on my teeth, from routine cleaning, to wisdom teeth removal. And everything has been top notch. A few years back, Dr. Hodges retired, Dr. Akkara took over and my family decided to stick around. And we're glad we did. Dr. Akkara is fantastic. Very friendly and very good at his job. Then there is the staff. Most of the same staff stuck around through the ownership transition, so most of these people I've known for almost my entire life. Sharon has been cleaning my teeth for who even remembers how long. And she is just great. So incredibly nice. If you're looking for a local dentist, look no further. I've been going to Hillcrest Dental for 14 years. They are always friendly and professional. I have been seeing the same hygienist since she started in 2006. Glacie is always gentle with my mouth and does a really great job on my cleanings. She is always very thorough and efficient. I have never had to wait in the waiting room for very long, but when I do they have an interesting DVD playing on the TV set up out there. I always thought that was a nice touch. Dr Akara is a caring and concerned dentist. He always takes the time to make sure you understand what he is doing and what is happening with your teeth. The staff of Dr. Akkara's office is exceptional! I've never been treated so well at a dentist's office before. I walked in for my appointment, immediately greeted by the receptionist. It was only a matter of minutes until I was brought back (mainly because they were waiting on me to fill in new patient forms) to be greeted again by Sharon, the hygienist, who was all smiles. She got me comfortable into the chair, even offering me a blanket! She was amazing, so gentle and polite, making me feel really at ease. She explained everything she was going to do (the x-rays,the screening, the scaling, and the polishing of my teeth). She even put Chapstick on my lips twice because she could tell they were dry! I've never had a good experience at a dentist's office before. I used to go to Greenberg Dental where they make you feel like your just a number and then inflict pain on you, which was the main reason I changed insurance. The ambience of the office is so warm and inviting, I almost forgot I was at the dentist's office...which might also be partly due to the laughing gas!
