I ask for a receipt and she offered to text me the receipt and when I agreed I never received the text which was a little suspicious I thought which is bad for business. When I got my food my brother bit into 1 of the enchiladas and ended up eating part of a long straight dark hair. The menudo also had a straight dark hair in it. I've been passing by Hilda's for YEARS! My first visit was well overdue. There's not much parking available on the street but once inside, Hilda's is much bigger than you'd think. I ordered the Chiliquiles con asada topped with juevos over medium. It had super tasty carne and tasted as authentic as you can get! My taste buds had a fiesta! Comes with a side of warm bread, a bowl of delicious chili verde salsita, and crema. Everything was tasty and seasoned to perfection! I had a bite of the pork tamale and it was superb! It was moist and flavorful. Mexican music was being played throughout our breakfast, and the waitress was super friendly and patient with my lack of Spanish skills. For the five of us, the bill was around $75. Very reasonable. No question, I'll be back. My taste buds demand it!!! read more

It was my first time coming here because I was recommended by a friend. I went up to the front to order (a tamal & a quesabirria) The old lady at the counter then charged me. The tamal was $3 on the menu and the quessabirria was $5. She proceeded to charge me $10. I brought it to her attention that it should have been $8 and I showed her the menu. She then tried to make an excuse and say that she charged an extra dollar for eating here. That's so dumb. I've never been to a place that charges you to eat at their restaurant. Like what ? My friend ordered 4 tamales with rice and beans. Her total was $24. Once again the tamales are priced at $3. 4x3=12 and the menu did not specify rice and beans being $12. We ordered our food at 10:50am, it is now 11:45am and we have not gotten our food which is inane because we were the only ones here. Two parties showed up after us and got their food before us. I had to go back to the counter to ask if our food was almost out. The lady got very defensive and started being really rude. I brought it to her attention that we were the only ones here and it had been an hour, as well as the fact that the other tables were served before us. She almost started yelling at me which was insane. She told me to deal with it. She said she had been to restaurants that and what wait 4 hours. I wonder where she dines LOL. Very bad customer service, wait, and cold food. Don't come here unless you want to be overcharged and given attitude for doing absolutely nothing. Will NEVER be coming here again. On Mother's Day this place was bursting at the seams with the church crowd and people like me (non denominational)! That being said the verde chilaquiles were authentic with a nice tomatillo flavor. Let me tell you the food is really good but the only thing I don't like is it is pricey for them to be serving a small portion I got the costillas en salsa and I got 5 small ribs and a very small portion of rice and beans. When you come inside you have to go to the counter and place your order. The owner is always here very friendly and pleasant. Music is always playing in the background. The food is so delicious! The chilaquiles are the best in town. I asked if the Chile Relleno had seeds inside. She said "No" but, they always say that at every restaurant I order from. First time ordering the Chile Relleno here and very delicious and NO SEEDS inside which is a huge for me. I don't like when you cut into a Chile Relleno and seeds are inside. Food was point, taste is very authentic and good size portions. The Bread they give you is very good, nice crunchy crust yet very soft inside and warm. I have only been here once but based on the items I tried this is definitely the best and most authentic Mexican food I've EVER had. My coworkers and I placed a lunch order for p/u. Everything was ready when we got there and the order was correct so thumbs up for customer service! Now for the food...I had the Tacos de Canasta (basket tacos) which are corn tortillas dipped in a red chile sauce, filled with potatoes and chorizo and served with shredded lettuce and queso fresco on the side. AMAZING. Probably the best tacos I've ever had. Another dish I sampled was the Costillas de Puerco-pork ribs simmered in the most flavorful red sauce I've ever tasted. I also tried both the red and green salsas and both were fresh, spicy and full of flavor and the chips were hot and and crispy! Other coworkers tried the Al Pastor tacos, Al Pastor burrito and Chilaquiles Verde. I didn't sample any of these but they all loved their meals as well. And the price was great! Especially for the quality of the food-$54 for 6 people! I will most definitely be back to dine in and if the food is as good the next time around as it was the first I may be in love, lol. Menu states that beans and rice come with lunch entrees and when you order they tell you that you have to purchase it separately. $3 for a can of coke. No fountain drinks. Wouldn't go back. I've given this place a few tries because the food is decent, the only problem every single time is the old lady with super rude attitude always making up her own prices overcharging me whatever she feels like, she says the menu is not updated and gets defensive when you ask her to break down the total because it never adds up and she won't give you a receipt, if you want customers to return it's time to retire the old lady because she is the only reason people don't want to come back. Food was great but if you are paying with credit card ask for the breakdown. I had huevos with machaca and my wife had chilaquiles verdes to drink my wife had canela and I asked for a fountain drink coke and they brought me out a 1/2 liter bottle , which I don't mind . What got my attention was the bill at the end. $29.16 As I payed attention on the front desk were you pay the cashier / owner I am thinking is just seemed like she was estimating the pricing of your meal since there was no form of showing what it was being charged . My receipt just had a total just like any other but I didn't see the total of the meals obtain on the order ticket. Any ways long story short I checked the pricing as I got home since one reviewer took pics of the recent menus and come to find out. I did get over charged. Even though the price says taxes included on the menu and on my receipt I got charged taxes again. This is defiantly not good for business and to have returning clients specially if it is your first time like it was for us. So sad , food was great too. But let with a bitter taste in the end. The building is not the prettiest and is very tiny, but the food is good and the family who owns the restaurant is accommodating and friendly. This last Saturday I went to buy tamales at this place, to-go, I took them home, and went about my day. Later that day I opened up the pack of chicken tamales I had bought and I found a roach stuck between 2 tamales, it was to late to call them that same day so I gave them a call Sunday and the lady I spoke to told me to bring them back that maybe I could get a refund. I took them in and the owner took them to the back to inspect them. She comes back and confirms that there is a roach. She then got upset because I didn't bring them back on Saturday and said that they are no longer good and can't do anything with them. Meaning she probably would have just removed the roach and resold them to someone else. I told her how can u resell something that has a a insect!!
