I had been a regular client for several years and then a series of minor mishaps caused me to go elsewhere. Recently I ordered online after a several month absence. When I called several days later to check the status I was disappointed to find that my order was packaged and ready but had not shipped yet. A very engaged and helpful young lady checked the status and then knowing I was going to be traveling offered to drop my cigars off at my office on her way home. Within hours, I got a sincere apology and a commitment to not only rectify the situation, but to compensate me for the poor experience which obviously atypical for them. They will charge you immediately for backordered items and never ship them. They always come up with a new excuse why its delayed, promising to ship the next day. Months of those broken promises are infuriating. Their service has become so bad I'm wondering if they're going out of business. read more

Never order from Hilands, i.e. Scott Hiland from his online page! They misrepresented my purchase made on May 21, 2023 indicating a problem with my credit card, which was not true. They then said they are going to send it out that day and I would receive within two days.....they don't. I called again on June 6, 2023 having not receive my order and again hearing from a staff member that the Owner, ....Scott had again problems with my order, I canceled the order. I was to received a confirmation by an employee how stated it would be sent showing a cancelling the purchase and crediting my credit card. No email has been received showing the canceling as promised! Summary, If Scott can not phone a client if was a problem (I'm 80 and retired with same credit card for 30 years), he has a communication problem as a Owner at the very minimum, and possibly with other intents. If the product are in fact unavailable, which maybe the true reason for the delays, as a responsible Owner, he should have presented this fact and we could move on, but he allowed another potential client has now rack up another dissatisfied customer! I wonder what his founding business parents would think of these mounting 1's on his business ratings by his clients? Stop just opening the front doors, turning the store lights, having your coffee and reconsider needed changes or omit online selling with true marking merchants! read more

This place is great!! Nice place to go into for your cigar and pipe tobacco needs. The gentleman at the counter was very courteous and welcoming, offered assistance in helping me keep my humidor at the correct humidity level and turned me onto an easy does it pack that keeps my humidor at its best humidity level. Nice pipes and lighters. They have great smelling tobacco inside of this really cool looking barrels. The time from order to delivery is absurdly long. 30 days plus $10 for a single tin of pipe tobacco in an envelope and UPS ground. 50 days and counting for a pipe and accessories I've yet to receive. Meanwhile I bought more of the same items including the expensive pipes carried by this shop at lower prices from other sellers, and shipped to my home within several days of purchase. If you live in Scottsdale AZ then great -- drive there and buy from a human. But if you want to do internet purchases go somewhere else for pipe smoking needs. EA Carey and Pipe& Cigar are cheaper and faster, and provide great comms. Here there is no email; no tracking; no communications. No dice. read more

I can't speak to the one and two star reviews of which there are very few but I'm sorry that you had a negative experience All I can say is Scott, Jake and the crew are amazing! By now they know my taste profile and give me the most amazing recommendations for hidden treasures. Now as to the online experience admittedly once in a while there is a stock issue something shows up online but they don't actually have it in stock but they are quick to disclose that and try to remedy the situation I ordered some LFDs 6 months ago but they're still on backorder no problem it's The world we live in and again just speaking for myself they have been great most people won't even answer the phone close to closing time let alone keep the door open and they've done both again I'm sorry for anybody there that negative experience here! Maintaining the proper humidor environment in the extremely dry environment of Tempe/PHX is pretty tough. I regularly visit some world-class cigar stores across the US, and it was a pleasant surprise to find the wide selection and excellent conditions at Hiland's. Have purchased from this place before and it was not bad , prices where good and service as well but with this order I have to say all changed. First of I don't know if who ever processes the order does not read but they didn't type in the cc info correctly but on 2nd try it was fine. I get a confirmation email that my order is complete. After not getting a notice from my shipper that he had a package for me I decided to call to get an update. After some long searching guy on phone finds the order and tells me oh the cigars are not in stock and it might be another 2 to 3 days. First off the website shows over 200 in stock, but even so if you are out shouldn't you call your customer and tell him you are out and might need a few extra days instead of charging credit card and hope the customer don't mind waiting till you feel to deliver. Basically it seems all stock info on their website a bogus as no one miscounted 200 boxes of cigars. Told him want refund , let's hope he doesn't take as long as shipping for cigars he doesn't have. I can not say enough good things about Scott, and the whole staff at Hiland's. When I was in the middle of wedding stuff, I decided I wanted to do a cigar bar for J. I also decided I wanted to get J a humidor and him and his groomsmen a few nice cigars to smoke the eve of the wedding. I visited and priced quite a few places in the valley. Hiland's blew everyone out of the water with price and customer service. Just about every shop I've been into has a room set up as a humidor where they have their cigars. At Hiland's, the entire shop is a humidor! I try to stop in every few weeks and pick out a new cigar for J to try. J has admitted to me, I have a knack for picking them out! I don't smoke them, but apparently I know who to pick them! A few of J's favorite cigars- Acid 5 and 1964 Padron Usually once a month, Hiland's will have cigar days. Free Lunch and a Free Cigar, usually from 11am - 7pm. Tomorrow, December 17th, is Drew Estate day! We love our Acid cigars! Even more when we can get one for free! read more

Been a customer off and on across the years, had something of a substantial setback with a recent order, to which Scott was able to make right and I'm all the more thankful for that. In addition it strengthened my willingness to purchase from his store/shop again. My only gripe is that shipments aren't humidified. All the same though it goes to show that when owner and staff work together to enrich the patronage of their customer base with great service, it goes a long way and is quite welcomed. My father, brother and I have been ordering pipe tobacco and pipes from Hiland's for about 10 years now and there is no one out there that can offer better quality pipe tobacco or cigars! My Grandfather, God rest his soul, ordered their "Black Gold" tobacco for almost 40 years before he passed away a few years ago at the age of 90.
