Cant speak about the firm as a whole but Tara Wrighton is a scam artist. Not only did she increase the hourly rate only a few weeks into signing the contract but she dropped the ball and and left me with zero representation during mediation which she billed me 1200 dollars. The mediator literally said I got screwed and Tara just laughed. Hightower made her parter so maybe that entire firm is just as much of a joke as she is. Its disgusting how bad she screwed me during mediation and still wanted payment for doing less than nothing. I would have been better of representing myself. Thanks hightower lawfirm and Tara Wrighton for costing me thousands and getting less time with my child. You guys rocks. read more

Traumatically horrible experience with this lawyer, so unprofessional, negligent, and so non-caring not just about the outcome of the case but also about the child involved that she met in person. After transferring my case to a different lawyer, I won the case getting 98% of asked, yet this lawyer literally jeopardized my case and resisted to complete her duties at the time sensitive period of transfer to a different lawyer making it so stressful. Do not waste your money on this unprofessional person that will never give you the value of service required by law. read more

I needed a divorce. I called in and paid $214.00 to have a consultation (talk to someone on the phone for an hour) the girl explained there was a preliminary packet she sent over for me to fill out to get some information. That I could simply do on my smartphone and email back. This was not the case. I wasn't able to fill out the form on my phone. It was quite a task to do on the PC. I got it done sent it to the email they provided. I received an email that the person I sent the email to no longer works there and that I had to send the email to another email address. So I called them and asked if they could figure this matter out on their end and if not to refund me. They I guess couldn't figure it out because a few minutes later I received a call that they were processing my refund. Not taking accountability that the issue was in fact their issue. If you like paying for a lawyer to do paperwork yourself this is the place to go. If you have any issue they will be quick to cut the cord be careful dealing with this firm. read more

I am so sad and disappointed with my experience with this law firm. 3+ years of miscommunication, charging for things that were never used in court, two charges for "trial" when I never went to trial the first time and I didn't have a fair and honest trial the second. Constant mess ups in the parenting plan. Customer service has always been nice but my case was not represented the way it should have been. On both counts, my lawyer did not have my back and sided with the other attorney involved. Both times, wording in a parenting plan was added in/ not added in that wasn't/was supposed to be. They will side with apposing sides lawyer instead of fully being there for you and as their client. After my "court hearing" verbiage from the opposing party was added in and my lawyer didn't even care to try and do what's right and fix it. Just had the judge sign and went on their way. A child's life is involved and all they cared about was making face with the opposing parties counsel not considering true patterns from the other party and the well being of a child. We have had lawyer before and now have a new one. Neither ever did what we dealt with from this company- but I'm jaw dropped how this business is ran and how I was treated as a client. read more

DO NOT & I mean DO NOT have Erin Wetzel represent you, she has no clue what she is doing. I don't have a law degree, but know more about criminal law than this woman. I was represented by her in spring of 2019 as an outside counsel while I was in DCC. My sons father was being represented by the public defender's office and it was a conflict of issue. So I ended up with Erin, she did not come talk to me, call me or write me for the 30 days I was awaiting my next hearing, which was for 2 3rd degree assault charges. It had been over 1 year since the warrant was sent out for the charges, so I knew I could have the charges dropped as it violated my constitutional right of a fair and speedy trial. Since it was over a year they hadn't brought me to trial within 6 months of the warrant being issued for a basic assault charge. The rules are applied differently if it's a domestic abuse charge. When she came to visit me finally one day before my court date and told me the prosecutor who drop the assault charges and give me disorderly conduct with time served which was 30 + days. And I kept telling her the charges can be dropped and she said I don't think so. I finally got annoyed with her and agreed to the damn plea. what also aggravates me the most is my best friend was a public defender at the time and ran into her at the court house and discussed this with her and she still was talking about how it doesn't apply and my friend had to tell her multiple times for domestic abuse it doesn't apply. She said she would look into it, she obviously didn't and was lazy and didn't do what was in the best interest of her client and is unethical. My attorney friend said she looks at her in a very different view now and if I wanted I could report her to the bar! I don't recommend this firm or Erin Wetzel! read more

First, I would like to state that I have never posted a negative review about anyone or anything online before. Truly, this is a "first" for me. I agonized over the decision whether to retain my own attorney or just pay half of my ex-wife's attorney fees since we were in complete agreement on our parenting/custody plan for our kids. Due to some unfortunate circumstances and threats from my ex-wife I felt completely vulnerable and un-represented and Ms. Hightower came highly recommended from a very prominent office within the local judicial system. I formally retained Tracy Hightower, partner of Hightower-Reff Law, on August 29, 2019 to represent my interests in my divorce. Prior to my consultation, a member of her staff (Dulcie) emailed me two packets of information to be filled out and returned prior to my consultation with Tracy. These packets of information were a combined total of 12 pages long. I completed and returned the paperwork ahead of our first meeting/initial consultation. My first impressions of her were that of professionalism and possessing a high level of intelligence and confidence. I immediately felt relieved. The kind of relief that I had not felt for many months. I did notice that she was asking me questions that were included in the packets of paperwork that I filled out and returned ahead of our meeting. She did not have either packet of information and did not know where it was. Initially, this did not bother me because she was so highly recommended and my first impressions of her were so positive. She did tell me that she was scheduled to be out of the office for a week from September 9-13 so she would make sure to have the "Entry of Appearance" and the "Response and Counterclaim" filed as it was approaching the deadline for me to respond to the initial divorce complaint filed by the opposing counsel. It was after this that things began to go off the rails. Both attorneys made many mistakes and omissions in the parenting plan. Mistakes and omissions that 2 seasoned attorneys should not make. The court is very specific about what it requires in these plans and cannot be filed until it includes exactly what the court demands. Every time a new draft of the parenting was created or changed, we were charged for the time worked, including phone calls between attorneys, of course. On more than one occasion I provided Ms. Hightower with all requested financial documents so that she could review them and provide them to opposing counsel. She claimed that she never saw them. I should note, all email correspondence always included her paralegal, Linda. By that time, we had reached the beginning of October and I found out from my ex-wife that her attorney had yet to receive the parenting plan with my signature nor had they received my financial docs . This is when I discovered that my ex-wife's attorney and paralegal had made repeated requests by phone and email, all of which were either missed or ignored by Tracy and her paralegal for more than 3 weeks. I seriously could not believe this was the attorney and firm that came so highly recommended. Mistakes continued, emails were lost, and requests from opposing counsel/paralegal continued to be missed or ignored. I then started to find out from my ex-wife exactly what her attorney needed so I could go back to my absent attorney and push the process forward. How was this my job? Why did I have to talk to my ex about what HER attorney was needing. This was both disheartening and discouraging. I was paying $275/hour for this? It's safe to say that our divorce got even worse because of this. In the end, I was faced with paying half of my ex-wife's attorney fees. In truth, I could have refused, but it was made clear to me that the fight would continue and cost me more money that I didn't have. I just wanted it over so I agreed to pay half of my ex-wife's attorney fees. I could not rely on Ms. Hightower to adequately represent me so I cut my losses. In truth, my ex-wife's attorney did 90% of the work and mine got a decent payday for making some phone calls and filing a few things. In total, I paid about $3600 for an UNCONTESTED divorce. I know some may think this is cheap for a divorce, but for someone like me who works two jobs this is a lot money. When the day finally arrived for me to sign the divorce decree I went to the law office and stood at the front counter, signing each page. After signing, I left and drove back to work. I then had to return on two more occasions because there were documents they failed to have me sign. Why couldn't this just end? I would strongly discourage anyone from retaining Tracy Hightower. I consider myself to be a reasonable person, but how I was represented was shameful. I was already going through one of the most difficult processes a person can go through and my attorney simply did not care. read more

I do not leave poor reviews as a rule, but in the case of legal representation that you are spending a boatload of money for, this is important. When we first went with Hightower Reff, they assured us if we went with them we'd not only have our attorney, but the entire firm at our disposal. Ha! Our attorney was rarely available, and she missed details in the final divorce decree such as reverting back to maiden name, which was supposed to be part of the decree. It was left out and cost us an additional $500 to take care of something that should have been caught and included in the cost of the divorce. This past month we received a rather important accusatory communication from the ex's attorney which needed to be taken care of immediately. It was imperative. Despite promises from her paralegal, a month later we still have had no communication from our attorney. Today we retained a new firm to address these false allegations. We gave her a full 3 weeks plus to draft an answer. Nothing. Also, early on in the proceedings, concerned for my daughter's safety, i called Hightower Reff because i lived out of state and had nowhere to turn fearing for my daughter's safety. I talked to the receptionist and was actually billed $37.50 for her to tell me to call the cops! I absolutely would not go with this firm. And I will be going over my final invoice with a fine-toothed comb. read more

Please keep looking.DO NOT LOOK AT AVVO. That website will not allow to add any bad review. Tracy came off as being a caring lawyer. But in the long run she did not come through. Did not pay attention. Did not keep notes. Kept asking for the same information over and over because she could not find in her files. During my divorce trial Tracy was not paying attention to my questioning. I was being badgered by the other attorney and then yelled at by the judge even after I answered the questions. Yet the other lawyer did not like that I was not stating a firm yes or no. I was practically in tears but did nothing. SHE DID NOTHING. SHE WORKED ON HER COMPUTER THE ENTIRE TIME NOT PAYING ATTENTION! THAT IS NOT WHAT A GOOD LAWYER IS. Basically I had to review all of the documents and look for errors that were stated in court. She did not keep any notes from the trial. I had to order the financials that were read off during the trial because nothing was correct. It cost me additional $$ directly to the court recorder. I found multiple errors that she had typed into the documents that if I would not have caught I would have lost what I deserved.
