This veterinarian didn't appear to understand how to treat a dog with severe gastroenteritis, and kept insisting that I take my dog to urgent care. I was shown my dog's blood tests a day after our appointment only after my insistence, and found it was obviously a bacterial infection. The vet didn't appear to understand how to interpret the blood tests; telling me he had to be brought to an urgent care hospital for further testing. When I asked what the testing was seeking, she was unable to explain. After getting the requested blood tests, I acted on my own and provided my dog with the needed antibiotics and he's fully recovered after three days. read more

Unfortunately I would not recommend this vet. I have been taking my two dogs here since we moved to the area 2.5yrs ago. I have never been wowed by their service, office, staff or overall attention to my dogs, they have been just ok. The last two times I have had to interact with this place has been awful. - somehow they got one of my dogs vaccine records mixed up. I was needing documentation for the groomer and this took multiple calls, me pulling my records, and me physically going in to the office 3x to get any sort of resolution to the situation. They NEVER followed up and never called back as they repeatedly told me they would. - my dogs have always been on a heart-worm & flea medication, but since we moved to the area, and they didn't issue their last prescription they would not issue a new prescription because they wanted to do an expensive blood work up before prescribing medication. They have both my dog's prior records but refused to issue the prescription refill. So I got to pay $175 for simple blood work and a n additional $120 for a full exam to confirm they don't have heart-worm ( obviously) because they have always been medicated for it. - I called last week to schedule my senior dog's rabies vaccine that he is due for this month. He was seen for his wellness check in April of 2023 (que heart-worm debacle) They refused to schedule his rabies vaccine with a vet tech insisting that I HAD to have an annual exam to get just his vaccine. They said they would check with the vet to "see" if they could just give the vaccine since he was less than 12 months out from his last exam and call me back. It has been almost a week since that conversation and there has been no communication. This is a case of 3 strikes and you're out. I would recommend going to an office that doesn't try to nickel and dime you and cares more about your pets actual needs. As a side note the office staff isn't good. Very snarky and rude. Zero follow up and POOR communication. The veterinarian I have seen has been good overall, just nothing to be wowed over. read more

I stuck with them after the change in ownership despite the sharp increases in prices that followed. However, they have consistently not been able to take blood or urine draws from either of my elderly cats. This occurred during a visit with one cat who has no teeth and is so docile that the vet told me they could do x-rays without sedation. It also occurred with my 22-year-old cat who was so hopped up on gaba that she was like a ragdoll. I don't know what they are doing in the backroom that prevents them from being able to do these draws, this has never been an issue at any other vet clinic in the 15+ years I have had these cats. To pour salt on the wound, each time the vet assistant brings the cat back to me LAUGHING about how they could not complete the draws and telling me I will need to bring them back in (i.e., subject them to another day of high stress). Definitely avoid if you have cats. read more

Service is not the same with new ownership. Prices are sky high for Burien and you never get to see or meet the vet doing the procedure. I have called several Times about this matter with no return calls back. I'm Not returning. The teeth cleaning increases each year and all they do is pull the teeth out. Makes no sense. Also no help on my dogs seizures but I figured out it was the Bravecto flea meds they were prescribing. Not a call back on that either. Not good care for my Lola. Not returning. Ever. read more

My dogs and late cats had been patients at High Vet since we moved to Seattle 6 years ago. Dr. Jackson was amazing. Since she retired, we've tried to make the best of the change in ownership. The veterinarians are knowledgeable and the office staff is friendly and warm. However, this doesn't offset the frustrations we've encountered repeatedly and the costly options they offer as treatment plans. ($45 laser therapy 2-3x a week for life? I personally don't have that kind of cash.) Our dogs are getting old now and require more medication to maintain a decent quality of life. It's extremely frustrating when the new clinic policy requires an office visit and blood work every 6 months. Suddenly, a $7 refill becomes a $200 vet bill. I'm sure this policy covers them for liability and there is some value in constantly doing lab work. But when I looked up my pet's medication, VCA shows that monitoring is NOT necessary for the medication they are refusing to refill. For our 14 yo elderly dog, they refused to refill her $20 arthritis medication until she came in for $150 of lab work every 6 months. Dr. Johnson never put us through anything like this. Our 3 dogs are 11, 12, and 14 years old. We really don't want to change vets at this stage of their lives, when we're just trying to keep them comfortable. I don't get the sense that they care about the families and offering options that are right for people without unlimited funds. It's been frustrating and disappointing, souring the trust our family had put in Highline Veterinary and we will be changing vets like some of the other long time patients have. We really miss Dr. Jackson and the practical, compassionate care she used to provide. read more

I was very impressed by my first visit to Highline. Even though my cat was not an established patient, when he started showing signs of an ear infection they were willing to fit us in for a next-day appointment. The doctor and support staff were excellent across the board! They were prompt, professional, knowledgeable and friendly. While it's not easy to send your beloved pet inside for care without being able to accompany them, it is also vitally important to take covid precautions seriously at this time. As a Registered Nurse I was impressed with Highline's safety protocols, and I was put at ease by their professionalism and their obvious love of animals. I don't write a ton of reviews. I think maybe one other one on google. Typically if I have a good experience somewhere I pass it along as a verbal. If I have a bad review I usually keep it to myself and chock it off as a bad day for me. In this instance I feel unusually sour about a long term relationship with this local veterinarian clinic. Clinic changed ownership recently and this has been difficult for some long time patients/owners. I've lived in the area for awhile and know a few people who used to go to this Hospital but have since changed. Change is sometimes necessary. In general, the new staff/ Drs are very knowledgeable. It's a good local hospital. Handled my mean, hissing, and unfriendly kitties very well. Hospital staff even made time to see my super old kitty in an emergency. This type of situation was not unusual with the original owners but has been challenging with the new ownership. Let's face it, how often are you actually going to the vet for care that's routine? 50% of the care is emergent. Animals do dumb stuff! (I have no facts to back that up, could be fake news!) The new staff seem to genuinely care about the health of the animals. However, from my perspective, they seem to lack a level of empathy when it comes to palliative care and geriatric animals. Unfortunately, clinic policy requires medical exams and blood work-ups every 6 months for animals with late stages of arthritis that have difficulty navigating cars and steps just for medication refills. I am sure there is reasonable argument to support this policy; allows the veterinarian to assess the well being of the animal, etc.. For me and my experience, it just makes me feel as though it was a way to get me in the door, pay for an exam and, put my 15 year old dog through an unnecessary process. Could you imagine being 106 and your dr says "well Mrs. X, I cannot refill your arthritis meds till you come in for blood work and an exam?" Guess I just need a little empathy and miss the flavor of having a local vet clinic. Fine veterinarian hospital otherwise. ***added advice to have made the experience better: - maybe if dr called, asked specific questions about health, I.e. is patient eating/drinking ok? A phone consult. We have telemedicine for people. - maybe if response to medication refills was more timely- instead of just not calling people back when there is an issue. It makes it seem like the animals health and comfort are actually a low priority. read more

I'm reading a number of other reviews that reflect the same problems we encountered. Our animals are not the most important, money is. Constant efforts to ensure that your animal has to be seen numerous times, upselling everything, recommending the most expensive medications and procedures, no continuity (we've seen a different vet every time) and communication is non-existent -- it's their way or the highway. They will gladly let your pet suffer if it means more money to them. This practice is now 180 degrees different than when Dr. Jackson owned it. With the severe veterinarian shortage nation-wide, it is truly daunting to find another veterinarian but we are going to go elsewhere. read more

Love Highline and Shawna! We have taken our pets there since long before the change of ownership, so I was relieved that the new practice is still a fit for us. Even during the difficult time of Covid, they have been extremely supportive of me and my sick Kitty, who has been going through a rough time with an infection, that may be something more serious. When I was able to get him in to see an internist, they were extremely prompt in getting his records transferred over. (Literally minutes) The staff are genuinely kind and concerned, which is all too often not the case. Dr Jackson & Dr Okawa, (relief Vet) have been HUGE in the recovery or our beloved Rudy. He was on the edge of liver failure & Pancreatitis and with their help he is now getting much better. They are so very loving and caring. Even with the COVID challenges they have been a huge support and so very helpful and great to work with. The front desk staff is AMAZING, they are working like a well oiled machine. At least that is the way it looks from my end. They make everyone feel like they are the most important. They give you 100% attention when they are working with us as the "parents" and our 2 dogs always come back happy from being inside with out us. I have been taking my cats there since the day I got them as 8 week old kittens 10 years ago next month. The new owner and her staff show the same concern and care that Dr. Jackson did - and that is a huge deal. Besides being great vets they are simply really wonderful and kind people. One of my kitties died suddenly 3 weeks ago (he threw a blood clot) and every member of the staff signed a sympathy card and sent it to me. The are just simply the best place to take your furry family member. Dr. Jackson and her staff are wonderful. I recently had a drop off appointment for a mobile ultrasound. Desiree and America (support staff) could sense I was hesitant to have my Frankie stay in a pen while waiting for the procedure so they let him stay up front with them. Another time, right after he was diagnosed with heart disease and I mistook a symptom for something much worse, Dr. Jackson let me bring him by at a moment's notice. She checked him out and didn't charge me since we were there earlier that week. I highly recommend them if you want compassionate and empathetic care. read more

This Veterinary service has completely tanked since the previous owner (Dr. Jackson) retired. My last appointment I sat in the parking lot for 40 minutes past my appointment time before someone came out to get my dog. I also noted that their prices for an office call had increased substantially. I decided to give them another chance and the earliest appointment was 2 weeks out. I scheduled the appointment for 2:30pm today. When I arrived today for the appointment, they of course don't let you come inside, I called to let them know I was there. They wouldn't answer the phone, instead sending me text saying they were with another patient and they would call me at some point. I waited 10 minutes past my appointment time with not a word. I fired them at that point and will find a much better Vet as there are a bunch to choose from. I would highly recommend any place then this place! read more

I have been going to Dr Roxanne for years (until she retired) for my pups and always received great care. I recently had an emergency situation with my pom (Chloe) and they saw me within a 1/2 hour of calling. After the exam and then getting some bloodwork back they recommended I take her to an emergency facility (I did SVS Downtown). She was hospitalized for 2 days and is now home and doing much better. I can't say enough about how kind and caring both the front desk staff and Dr. Foshusta was in helping me. I credit them with saving my little girls life. Thank you! read more

I took my cat to a different vet last year to get his heart listened to, because another cat in the family had a heart murmur. That vet (at a different clinic) said his heart sounded fine. I went to Highline vet after my cat had fainted a year later and Dr.Jackson found a heart murmur. I am so thankful she did! We went to a cardiologist (that she recommended) and they found he has hypertonic cardiomyopathy and he's now on medication twice a day. The fact that we were able to catch it fairy early (he's only 2) is great for the longevity of his life. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. read more

I used to have a healthy 14 year old kitty until I took him to the VCA Vet of West Seattle for a routine rabies shot, which somehow became a $200 visit and inadvertantly led to the death of my kitty the next day. (Read my review for a full explanation). So as you can imagine I'm a little anti-vet after that experience. When I got a new kitty I ordered her vaccines online and administered them myself to avoid the hassle and expense of a vet. However, the state requires rabies vaccines be administered by a vet so I was eventually forced to look for a new one. I called a half a dozen places that all had stiff fees just for walking in the door. What is up with people willingly paying office visit fees? My business doesn't charge customers for walking in the door, and if we did we wouldn't be in business long. Finally and with much relief I called Highline Vet, an honest, old-fashioned vet with no office fee! The office was clean, cute and small with separate cat and dog entrances. I requested a shot only, no exam as my kitty is young and healthy. I received exactly what I asked for, a rabies vaccine, a quick look over my kitty and the vet's agreement that she's in good health. Best of all, the visit cost exactly what I was quoted over the phone (under $25). Maybe being charged what I'd agreed to pay shouldn't excite me so much, but after my last vet experience it does. I'm so relieved to have found a vet I can trust. read more

They go above and beyond to try and help us with training and are always willing to answer questions. Our Vet that is much closer charges 50% more ($38 mandatory visit fee EVERY TIME....even if you visiting twice in a single week). I've been going to this clinic for a few years since I switched to them from a VCA clinic to have Dr. Jackson do a surgery on my dog. My dog has been great ever since, the surgery was perfect, and the aftercare was great. I've also gone to Dr. Jackson to treat my dog that had a tumor and she was so kind in giving me the information I needed to make the best decision for her at the end of her life. She was even willing to do a house call to put her to sleep, which was so much easier than any other experience I've had euthanizing a pet. Between the staff and the doctor I haven't met a veterinary team that is as accommodating and kind as this group, I would recommend them to anyone. read more

Entire office is in serious need of renovation. Looks like has not seen any work in 5 decades or so. Dark, old, and musty. Puzzling to me that no one has mentioned what I am posting here. I brought my cat here and an xray was taken. The cat was REALLY misdiagnosed. My cat was still not doing well the day after being sent home so I took my cat to South Seattle Vet Clinic, also on 1st ave south, in Burien. South Seattle Vet did an xray and my cat had a small intestine tumor that turned out to be cancerous! The tumor was removed and it had not spread; I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it does not come back. read more

Wonderful pet care from a great staff. I heard about Dr Jackson through a friend who said the care was excellent, the prices fair, and the clinic was clean and friendly (separate cat and dog doors). All proved to be true. Dr Jackson diagnosed a tumor in my cat years ago, thoroughly explained the possible tests and the reality of treatment, then fully supported our informed decisions. I really appreciated her honest and gentle yet clear communication. Years later I'm still going to this clinic for my other (healthy) cat's checkups. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Highline Veterinary Clinic and Staff - I had know this clinic when my folks brought there shepard in When Dr, R Jackson's Dad was there. But now with taking our dogs there as we have had 2 labs - Dr R Jackson and the staff has been excellent for our dogs and us. As in April 2012 we had one of our dogs but down and it was a hard deal for us and our other lab and everyone is excellent towards us and all and very compassionite for both the animals and people.
