On the way to Parish Hall our son was saying, repeating a couple times out loud "I really love school" Teacher, Mrs. Lauren Hopkins (Mrs Lauren Coley) responded to our son's enthusiasm by saying "your dad says you hate school." We were absolutely devastated to hear that Mrs Hopkins would make such a false statement. A teacher's responsibility is to build up a child and to grow him. We believe her words made in front staff and children are demeaning and an attempting to embarrass our family. The principles and mission of YVCS is to nurture a child's mind, spirit, and character, providing a purposeful education. When we drop our boys off at school, we are trusting that the school upholds these standards. We've witnessed some staff at YVCS being awfully rigid to rules and principles. In the beginning of the year, we were often bombarded with negative things said about Luke. We questioned if they were over-emphasizing on disciplinary actions. Our question today is what happens when staff breaks their own rules and responsibilities? Do they hold themselves to the same high standards they hold our children to? As his teacher, we questioned why doesn't Mrs Hopkins concentrate on our son's strengths? He's an incredible leader, he's curios, active and loves to help his classmates. He actually loves to learn. Our sons have over 100 well-made videos on YouTube with their dad exploring subjects like science experiments and building rockets, learning about animals and exploring insects, building a treehouse, creating crafts and adventuring the great outdoors. There's been a number of times where I've picked up our son from school and we've noticed that the "wind has been out of his sails." It is usually in relation to how he feels like he has failed again. Mrs Hopkins words were verified by other staff and kids who overheard her destructive and careless words. We understand God to be one of graciousness. We expect that our child be treated purposefully, with understanding, and with favor. It is also our desire that staff at YVCS be treated with the same care and purposefulness. It is for this reason that we want to school to review Mrs. Hopkins words and follow them with purposeful action. Why would you take over a church and school if you only want to focus on one side you should have just joined a church. So we thought if we met with the pastors this would be handled bc they're suppose to be the top of the chain. Boy were we wrong. So the pastors made us have an additional meeting w/the principal for intentionally de enrolling our kids. We only found this out due to the re enrollment fees not being taken out and the registrar informing us the principal asked her to not take our fees out bc we wanted a meeting. So for my son getting bullied you're going to retaliate against us for bringing these issues to the forefront? After dealing with the mishandling of these situations we decided to pull our kids out of this school for their safety. I will also mention other safety concerns. Homeless people sleeping in front of the school. Two people walk up on campus have no child that attends KVCS, ask to use the restroom on the blacktop. They allow these people in the school. Can you imagine if a child was in that RR and these people were pediphiles & did something to one of our children? Now the nail in the coffin of why our kids were pulled out on top of EVERYTHING ELSE was bc I went to p/u my son for an appt thank god I did bc I would not have known this was occurring. I walked in & was informed my son was in the back room w/ a psychiatrist. WITHOUT MY CONSENT. (Behind a closed door w/minor). When I asked if I was going to get an email or a phone call about this I was told by the psychiatrist, "By law I don't need to tell you anything." The school did not call me or inform me this was happening. Come to find out forms were forged w/o my knowledge or consent. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR CHILDREN! I can go on and on about the negatives of this place. They're NOT about the kids they're about the money. Your child is nothing but a # here. The preschool can't even keep a teacher. Most of the BEST teachers have left here that should tell you EVERYTHING. I should also mention in the preschool I walked in for my younger son's bday and they HAD HIM FACING A WALL and told me he's just been a lot. So how many other times is my son being mistreated? I'm only doing this because I do take illnesses seriously and if my son was ill I would have kept him home. He too spent time in the ER last month for RSV so I can understand your concern. My son has asthma and a gag reflex. The gag reflex causes him to easily throw up. This sometimes can be triggered by stuffing his mouth too much or even a heavy cough. His asthma isn't too bad normally, but sometimes when he talks too fast (cold variant asthma). This is what happened on that day, he coughed heavily which triggered his gag reflex. He was sent home due to him throwing up, but we are working with our patrician to get an exemption. Not every sneeze is a cold, not every cough is a virus, and not every throw up is a sign of something contagious. As parents we should look out for each other, I would have appreciated if you asked what happened and expressed your concern in person. God bless.

I can't count how many times the custodial crew has gone out of their way to help and work so incredibly hard. But one of the leads of the school is rather dreadful to deal with. The office manager, Juanita, is always so aggressive and angry at everyone and hard to talk to. I've witnessed and heard bad stories of experiences where she doesn't focus on her job but will just yell at others and staff for things that are out of control. I've even been told she refuses to officialize overtime and comp pay that is legitimate. Really terrible to see such improper and unprofessional hostility in the workplace. Maybe she needs a position of less authority.

When the situation finally escalated, the response was alarming, not only because of the incident itself but because of how it was handled afterward. My son who was only a witness and not the actual student that brought this BB gun to school was **searched and questioned by police officers**, and at no point did the school **notify me or reach out** to explain what was happening. I had to find out by my son via text as it was happening ,which is completely unacceptable. As parents, we trust schools with our children's safety and well-being. That trust is broken when serious matters like this are treated with such **a lack of transparency, urgency, and communication**. Regardless of the outcome, parents deserve to be informed immediately if their child is involved in or affected by such a situation.
