Some examples I have are whispering whilst the teacher is talking and getting detention for it, being chastised by the teacher for not listening or paying attention which I have A LOT to say about. First off there are multiple different ways that help students learn that are more beneficial to them (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Reading/Writing), and most schools usually teach a more auditory- focused learning style, which, even though schools do try to do, it can still be challenging for students. (Also, why teach a person something they don't want to learn about? If it is extremely beneficial to them, then they will HAVE to learn it and will then actually WANT to learn it because they now understand what the benefit is.) I have also noticed as a straight-A student that even when I am not paying attention and have to ask the teacher to clarify, they won't chastise me for that but will for students that aren't doing so well. Many reasons can tie into why a student isn't doing well and one of them is mental health issues or problems at home and recently, more students have been struggling with mental health issues, which I feel teachers should be a bit more understanding about. One last thing I'd like to add is that one of my friends who goes here has been getting mean and rude messages from another student and I don't think they're the only one. I would really like if this school would learn how to deal with bullying with less punishment and instead deal with it in a way that makes the perpetrator understand what they did wrong and let the victim choose how they would like the situation to be dealt with. if the perpetrator is not willing to understand I feel like the school should just expel them instead of letting them hurt more students. The Restorative Justice system can help and last time I was here, the school was working on that but not in the best way. I hope it has gotten better :)

We always ask our boys what they learned and how their day went at school. On the way to Parish Hall our son was saying, repeating a couple times out loud "I really love school" Teacher, Mrs. Lauren Hopkins (Mrs Lauren Coley) responded to our son's enthusiasm by saying "your dad says you hate school." We were absolutely devastated to hear that Mrs Hopkins would make such a false statement. A teacher's responsibility is to build up a child and to grow him. We believe her words made in front staff and children are demeaning and an attempting to embarrass our family. The principles and mission of YVCS is to nurture a child's mind, spirit, and character, providing a purposeful education. When we drop our boys off at school, we are trusting that the school upholds these standards. We've witnessed some staff at YVCS being awfully rigid to rules and principles. In the beginning of the year, we were often bombarded with negative things said about Luke. We questioned if they were over-emphasizing on disciplinary actions. Our question today is what happens when staff breaks their own rules and responsibilities? Do they hold themselves to the same high standards they hold our children to? As his teacher, we questioned why doesn't Mrs Hopkins concentrate on our son's strengths? He's an incredible leader, he's curios, active and loves to help his classmates. He actually loves to learn. Our sons have over 100 well-made videos on YouTube with their dad exploring subjects like science experiments and building rockets, learning about animals and exploring insects, building a treehouse, creating crafts and adventuring the great outdoors. There's been a number of times where I've picked up our son from school and we've noticed that the "wind has been out of his sails." It is usually in relation to how he feels like he has failed again. Mrs Hopkins words were verified by other staff and kids who overheard her destructive and careless words. We understand God to be one of graciousness. We expect that our child be treated purposefully, with understanding, and with favor. It is also our desire that staff at YVCS be treated with the same care and purposefulness. It is for this reason that we want to school to review Mrs. Hopkins words and follow them with purposeful action. UPDATE: He was removed from his classroom by the school principal We were NOT notified of this change nor did we receive a phone call or email, nor did we receive an apology from the teacher or Principal Mrs. Ilyn Kagawan.

Not only has my son flourished academically, socially but also spiritually! He has been surrounded by loving/caring teachers and faculty who have shown a deep interest in his young life. The school is small which allows teachers more individual attention to each student and they REALLY get to know each child's strengths and talents and work to develop those areas especially (while still working towards increasing weaker areas of strength). This school feels more like a family and that is a HUGE change from the public school environment my son came from. My son has expressed his love for the school. I am so happy we decided to enroll him. One of the best investments ever!!

The administration didn't do much to stop the violence, it really just sorted itself out which was lucky. The principal was an unenthusiastic mess, she focused on minor problems like dress code and running in the halls instead of the violence that happened all over campus, and really never solved problems brought up by students/counselors. My teachers were overall pretty good, but some were terrible. My eighth grade math teacher Mr. Woolridge, was an oaf. He didn't know how to spell or even do the curriculum. He strictly went by the book and only went over problems were they give you the answers. Luckily he was fired and left right after the 2024 school year ended. Overall I can say that the school has gotten better since 2022, but is still a violent and overall lacking education and administration wise.

It was the most uncomfortable feeling I have ever had going to the Admin Office. I all ways felt the atmosphere or mood of the office starts from the top. Talking to several teachers they all have delicately said Principle Bain is very busy and has alot on her mind which is why she doesn't engage in a positive friendly manner with parents or students. I just stared back at the teachers in disbelief they just smiled back what else can they do if they want to keep their job's.

They have a station for epi pens and defibrillator. This school has shown me that other public Hispanic schools should be like this school. And yes I will say it Cambridge elementary in lacy ln in concord is the worst to send your kids to. Not only will your children get sick because other neglectful parents still take their kids to school even when sick. Your child might also come home with lice. Teachers talk to your child with out consent from the parents. My son was stripped to search for any bruises or marks on him since a lady spoke to my son and told him to say a bunch of lies dealing with CPS is the worst trust me they put my son through hell my son was suicidal due to them teaching my son two languages at the same time my son does not speak Spanish what so ever. But somehow they stuck him in that class. The old old principal mrs hurley targeted our family due to being LGBT. She stated the reason why my son was the way he is is due to him not having a dad and only having two females as his moms. She told my wife that she could not raise our son due to her not having a male appendage. But anyways I would like to say schools in the Hispanic community should carry this inside school.
