If you are planning to visit the Grand Canyon, stay in Williams and STAY HERE. Nothing fancy but hella clean and lovingly managed by a down to earth couple who are really pushing to make this motel successful. It is right on the main strip, right by the Safeway as well. Everything is walkable. I cannot emphasize how damn clean they keep the place. It's functional and comfortable. My oldest and best mate and I are so glad we used this for a 3 day two night stay during our road trip. Book directly with them. Booking.com mucks things up (happened to me and I was lucky I called them direct). I'm a fan of the motel (nostalgia?), especially whenever on Rt 66, but this one could do with some fresh paint and fixture upgrades. Yes, it's small but sufficient for one or two people and walking distance to the main drag and the Grand Canyon Brewing Company, and right next to a grocery store and Dairy Queen. And in true motel style, you get to park in front of your room. However, the queen bed seemed small, the pillows were the thinnest I've ever encountered (maybe that is why they give you so many pillows?), and the sink drained way too slow. But the bed was comfortable, the sheets were sparkling clean, and it is independently operated by a nice family. read more

This place was exactly what I was looking for! Nothing fancy, just a very clean comfortable inexpensive room. It had a 4 cup Mr Coffee, shampoo, soap etc, hair dryer, fridge, microwave, a/c and heater. And it's an older brick building making it a very quiet stay. The bed linens looked thin but sheets were soft and the bed and pillows were comfy. Front desk was very nice on top of all that. Yes, I know I gave it 5 stars, but that's based on the fact that I got what I paid for: a safe, quiet, comfy place to spend 2 nights. read more

I reserved a room with the hotel front desk directly and paid for reservation insurance. Cancelled in the am of the day of and was told that my reservation was through Expedia. Expedia was never mentioned by the front desk or myself. They gave me a number to call they said was Expedia. This is a cute little motel & the employees are very nice. My room was really small, but extremely clean. The check out time is 10am, which I think is odd, but I'm just traveling through so it's fine for me. The bed is comfy & I like flatter pillows, so that was nice (another review mentioned the flat pillows ). The only issue I have is that I was freezing. There's only one thing blanket on the bed & the heater is a wall unit that didn't automatically turn on when it got cold. I had to get up in the middle of the night & turn the temp up. I had it up to 90° & woke up cold in the morning because it didn't come back on. read more

I really wanted to let everyone know that the Highlander Motel here in Williams is an amazing place to stay! My husband had surgery and we booked him a room for 7 days so he could recover in a sanitized, quiet, and relaxing room. A room that he could get in and out of bed easily and reach the restroom with minimal walking. The owner is very caring and checks on my husband daily since checking in! He gave my husband a room set back and away from the hustle and bustle if the main drag! The room was decorated nicely! Everything is so clean! The frig, ac/heating unit, and microwave works perfectly! My husband had an amazing stay and recovering! I would highly recommend Highlander Hotel to any and all locals and visitors!! I'm concurring with Yumi's review from 2013 & adding my two yelp cents to say that the place send to have been moderately updated and is still an AMAZING deal. 62$ with tax Clean (exception is bed spread which is gross but you don't touch those any way, right? It's a hotel, they're always gross. I'm detracting nothing for that.) One star down bc although there are two beds, I'm gonna squeeze in w my mom bc one beds comfy and the other is a concrete jail slab. The bathroom/toilet is separate from the sink!!! Extra points! There is a luggage rack And a table. Two hangers, cute. HOOKS BEHIND THE DOOR! CRUCIAL. fridge & microwave & coffee maker & tea & hot chocolate & Yes, Vince is a sweetheart. It's a cute little motel and while yes, it's not a 5 star hotel, the place was much nicer than we expected for the cost of stay. Pros: - beds were soft and not saggy with age - different types of pillows to choose from in your room (shredded memory foam, fluffy polyester stuffed pillow, and a flat firm pillow like one of those too old pillows) - drip coffee, tea and hot cocoa packets refilled daily in your room with mugs for the drinks - wrapped disposible plastic cups so you don't have to worry if they washed the cups using the same gloves used to clean the toilet (yes this happens even in 5 star luxury hotels) - mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker in every room - the room overall was pretty clean with a few caveats - lots of outlets provided in the form of an extention cord bracketed to the wall - everyone there were all extremely friendly Cons: - walls are very thin - the decorative pillows are in desperate need of cleaning - lots of dead bugs stuck to the ceiling - you can feel the cold air come through the bottom of the door (we were here in winter) - deadbolt lock wouldn't lock but you could still lock the door using the handle. It was just out of alignment though so it may have been because of it being below freezing read more

I really can't understand why this hotel received so many positive reviews. The room was extremely small, there was an a/c unit ceiling high and the room was very hot. There is an a/c switch on the wall but I couldn't adjust the temperature, not only am I short, but I'm disabled as well. There was a ring around the bathtub, which killed my desire to drop a bath bomb in and relax. Then, I called to let them know that I have a Service Dog. Zeus was denied entry with the excuse that it was private property and they did NOT have to follow any ADA guidelines. I tried to explain that they can NOT do that because it is a business and Zeus is permitted to enter any business where the public can. We would have canceled, but we couldn't find a place to stay under $175, remember, I'm disabled. The managers were difficult and rude on the phone but were fine in person. Made reservations back in May for 8 rooms and received email confirmation from the owner. Our group rode over 200 miles, only to be told we didn't have reservations... Showed the owner his email confirmation and he denied sending it.... This place can take a long chew on the meaty bone. Just found out the owner sold our rooms to others for $40 more per night. On the way to the Grand Canyon but not looking to throw out beaucoup bucks in the process? Stay in Williams on Route 66 for less than a Benjamin a night and all you have is an hour drive the following day to see the epic expanse. Two double beds [maybe queens?] and a shower that betters both the hotels I stayed at in Vegas for means it gets a positive nod. As comfy as it was laying down, though, I did get some weird neck cramp/knots every morning I woke up. Can't say about the AC, but the heater worked very, very well. In no time, your room felt like a desert oasis, so don't feel the need to turn it up to 90 to get it up to temperature quickly. Rooms also include a coffee maker [with coffee and tea!], microwave, and a mini fridge. The wifi is a bit shoddy, but it's available. Plenty of towels for the bathroom and the water ran hot enough to boil a turkey. Toilet flushes like a king and the toiletries are all included, so no need to bring anything unless you're picky, in which you probably wouldn't be staying here anyway. The new owners are from Belgium and are as nice as can be. European hospitality at its finest in Williams, AZ? You bet your ass. They're super accommodating and even welcome your morning with some pastries and a bottle of Tropicana juice. They'll definitely help you out with some of the things around Williams and even the attractions along Route 66 and mega I-40. Go there, stay here, and enjoy. read more

This is based off of our one-night stay at this very homey, old-school no-frills motel. We'd asked around on a Monday night for a stay in Williams and I suspect it was still swarming with over-flow tourists who couldn't find (or afford, like us) a room in vicinity of the Grand Canyon. So after some Yelp research and calling a few motels around, this was the cheapest stay with over a 4-star rating on Yelp. Here's my reasonings for a 5-star rating on an otherwise 1-to-2-star classification under "hotels". FOR THE PRICE, this place is valued for: 1. CLEANLINESS. 2. Super friendly, helpful staff. The night manager Vince was AWESOME and recommended a ton of fun stuff for us to do in the general area surrounding Route 66 that weren't just pricey tourist traps. (The owner (diff guy) speaks fluent French and is also just as resourceful). Vince also will make recommendations for food spots. 3. CONVENIENT. Right off Route 66 a block away from I-40 and right next to a Safeway. Has a mini-fridge and mini-microwave equipped. It's a little dated and feels like the place was built by people who never even touched a straight-edge before, but we were treated to a SUPER QUIET room with a nice, sturdy/firm Queen bed. Stayed at this quaint little motel the other night during my Grand Canyon trip. Clean with simple but cute decor. Staff was friendly and helpful. Easy walk to the grocery store, restaurants, and the Grand Canyon Railway. Would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for an inexpensive no frills place to stay! The only reason I deducted one star was for the fact that there were yellow spots on the ceiling in the bathroom from lack of ventilation during showering. It was nothing terrible. Got stuck in the snow and took a last minute chance on the Highlander after reading reviews on Yelp and was very pleased with the place! Its an excellent motel run by great people. The owner was very accommodating. After giving us a chance to check out the available rooms, his assistant registered us and offered great advice on what to see in the morning. Meanwhile the owner went back to work plowing snow from the parking lot. The room was clean and had character, satellite tv, coffee, fridge, and microwave! In the morning I saw the owner helping other guests scrape ice off their cars and the housekeeper struck up a nice conversation. They offered free pastries and juice, but we opted for the discount they provided to go to the the Grand Canyon Coffee & Cafe, a lovely diner down the road. Room was very affordable, and much cheaper than other places we called. Thank you Highlander for a great stay. We'll be back. read more

I wish my husband and I had the opportunity to stay longer and explore Williams from this great little motel. This small motel on Route 66 gave us the best stay of any others on this trip. While it's little and non-assuming, it has a great and friendly staff and a fantastic price. The businesses in the area are all close, so it's a perfect way to explore the gateway to the Grand Canyon on a historic route through the area. I'd certainly choose this over staying in the busy nearby and more expensive Flagstaff. What an amazingly charming surprise for the road-weary! read more

For an inexpensive no frills place, I really enjoyed this motel. Comfortable beds, simple & stylish decor, and loved having a mini fridge! Office staff super friendly and helpful with dining options and Grand Canyon tips. Wifi down for the whole evening we arrived, although they were diligently trying to get it up and running again. Disappointed to find one small hair clinging to the insides of each of the "clean" coffee cups on the sink. We'd totally stay here again. read more

We love this motel. Exactly what we were looking for. I would like to point out that the pictures showing peeling walls etc are three years old and before the remodel. There isn't a trace of anything that looks like that here now. The place is simple and by no means fancy, but impeccably clean. Like, i don't think I've ever stayed in such a clean motel. Simple and straightforward rooms in an old building, but actually totally nice. All the tile is new and there's crisp, white, freshly painted walls. It's not exactly bare bones either. You get a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker and they give you coffee and tea, and the owner is really friendly and helpful. Another plus is that it's right in town and walking distance to all the little restaurants etc. Definitely recommend. read more

Don't make the same mistake as me. I booked a night here because of the good reviews. This place is super gross! There were bugs in our room, and the bedsheets look like they haven't been washed for a year. Bathroom, rugs, bathtub, and coffee maker were dirty and yellow stain (ewww). I don't understand how they are still in business. The front guy desk monitors everyone, no privacy! I would recommend going to Motel 6 or Super 8. They are around the same price but much cleaner. I paid around $120 for 1 night and it was definitely not worth it! I couldn't wait to leave! read more

Nothing fancy, the room was very clean, but it smelled a little weird when we first walked in, once we aired it out, it was okay. The rooms are small, we had 2 double beds and they were comfy except the base of the bed sounded like an empty locker haha! The staff was super nice and the 2nd night we were there, the water was coming out brown. Kinda got freaked out, told the front desk and he said the city randomly washes out the pipes and to give it about 15-20 min. After about 30 minutes, the water was clear again. The tv remote didn't work for the tv so we had to manually turn the tv on and off including the volume. Over-all, with those minor flaws, we had a comfortable stay. read more

We stay in Williams at least some twice a year. We usually are trying to keep costs down, which is why we chose the Highlander. The man at the front desk was friendly and he room was clean. You could tell it was remodeled low cost, but it was everything we needed except one thing. The bed was so hard, I felt like I was sleeping on a raised floor. The frame sounded like a metal locker and felt like a hard floor. A good night sleep didn't happen for either my husband or myself. If the could replace the mattresses, we would stay again. read more

After a grueling 14 hour trip and a visit to the Illustrious Grand Canyons we stopped at the Highlander motel. Comparing it with several others, and finding it not to be the most economical one, but I decided for Highlander because the outstanding Customer Service common to Europeans. I even received a discount simply for asking. The room was spacious for its price, and at the end it did turn out to be the most economical one, if you were to do some mathematical formula with square footage versus price, and adding the friendliness, multiplying the clean, fresh towels, the in-room refrigerator, coffee machine, SAT, and so much more. I highly recommend Highlander Motel for short or long term and if you are European, you will not miss a beat on accustomed customer service! Hungry in the morning? The lobby will provide you snacks and juice. The owner himself will offer recommendation on local culinary experiences and NRA members you will find common interests. This place is absolutely fantastic! My boyfriend and I stayed there on a Grand Canyon weekend adventure, and it was perfect. It's within walking distance of everything in Williams (although, to be fair, so is everything else), and it includes a mini-fridge and microwave, as well as more than the usual stock of actual plush towels and real bathmats; they change the shower curtains every day. The owners are friendly, kind, and accommodating; the housekeeper is sweet as can be! The rooms are clean, affordable, and comfortable. It reminded me of the motels my parents would take us to as kids on road trips. I actually booked there based on Yelp recommendations, and I was NOT disappointed at all! Well done, Highlander! We stopped here for two nights while visiting the Grand Canyon. We were trying to save money as we were on a cross country road trip, so we wanted to book a motel. It is about an hour away from the canyon. It is on a restored part of route 66, which was a huge selling point for us. It is a basic place to stay. Everything was clean, and the manager was nice. It is perfect if you just need a place to rest your head. And just a couple blocks up, there are all sorts of restaurants and shops. There was also a little little route 66 museum. I would stay here again if we were in the area! read more

HORRIBLE!! No amenities, No service The driveway and parking spots were full of snow, nothing shoveled!! The front desk guy is like, 'the person responsible for shoveling dint show up'. Fine we take that as an answer. The room, as rightly pointed out by others is renovated( means new flooring and bathroom hardware. Rest everything seemed from 80s or even older). But hold on, what is a renovated room worth, if nothing works... I turned on the TV and there were no channels/shows. I called the front desk and the answer is, 'storm may have led to disconnection, but internet works'. That seemed like an absolute lie, since the Direct TV screen said, no subscriptions have been made!! Whatever, we decided to live off TV.. Next, no warm water in shower!! This was Epic. We called front desk, no one answered. I walked up to the office and it was shut. There was a note with a phone number, I called and the guy is like, oh I can't fix the heater, you can go search the cleaning lady(seen nowhere) and ask for another room key and go take shower in the other room. He was like I can't call the cleaning lady, nor can I come to work (so basically, that means he can do nothing). We ended up taking shower with cold water on a chilly morning. The entire stay was a complete nightmare.. full of excuses..all the front desk guy said was I can't do anything and the owners are out of -town and I can't contact them either!! Most motels nearby, had similar pricing and offered breakfast too. I wish we had made a different choice. read more

What a cute town, and a nice family owed hotel. With only 12 rooms they are able to give you that customer expectation we all seek. The room was small, but it had something a lot others charge extra for. Free microwave, fridge, and a coffee maker. Make sure you take advantage of the free Wifi when you upload all your great pictures to your social media. All this with the best price in town.. If you stay here make sure to ask about their current offers for the local restaurants. They have discounts for a few of the great family owned businesses around town.
