Honey Pop’s Bar & Grill - Filet mignon

Honey Pop’s Bar & Grill

The food was really good and the restaurant was unusual. Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, but…read morepretty busy with locals. There's a billiard parlor upstairs and a large-ish bar in the back (I didn't go into either but could see them when we came in). The main dining area ran through the middle of the building. Very casual but menu all over the place ($110 tomahawk steak or a $12 Reuben sandwich). Good service, very laid-back, not at all pretentious. I think it would make a good candidate for diners, drive-ins, and dives, but I'm not sure they have a signature dish? Clear all the food was fresh, not frozen. I got the catfish with fried okra and french fries. Best catfish I've had in years. And the okra and twice fried French fries were outstanding. Would definitely go back!

Great first visit. Was enjoying myself so much I neglected to take photos of our food! Nice bar and…read moredecent selection of wine priced around $20 a bottle, great for the 3 of us having wine. At the table we had filets with mashed potatoes and the glazed mushrooms, fried catfish with creamed peas and fried okra, and a chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. Everything was good - the steak and mushrooms were EXCEPTIONAL, and the catfish filets were fat and perfectly prepared. No room for dessert but we did stick around for the bar and after dinner drink and about an hour of music upstairs in a cool room. They were super busy and out of a few items I ordered, but service was thoughtful and attentive. Only negative noted by us all is the lighting is bright and seating is hard, so less ambience than Denny's, honestly. A few minor tweaks would improve that a great deal. That said - can't wait to go back for the steak and mushrooms. They are worth the drive.

I ordered several dishes and all of them cooked perfectly. I've been a professional chef for 21 years. And a cook for even longer. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants a long the way that have simple comfort food gone wrong. These simple recipes were made with love and no mistakes. Every dish every bite done right. Even the Desserts were great. And the fact that this community also built this place by hand, it had this comforting rustic feel to it. Customer service was absolutely great. Every server was Super friendly and courteous. 5 stars all around for the wooden spoon.

Once seated the service, the food and the atmosphere were all great! My daughter and I had the salmon with roasted broccoli and a sweet potato and it was the best dish on the table. Although my husband and son-in-law would argue the fried catfish was equally as good and yet another said the Mac & cheese with chicken was best! Our waitress took great care of us and the manager came by a couple of times to check on things. This would be a 5 star rating but the wait time was about 20 minutes longer than "quoted". They commented about being short staffed so we will try again and hope for that added star.

The atmosphere at Hive was stylish and inviting, and the setting definitely lived up to…read moreexpectations. Unfortunately, the service experience did not match. When I asked a simple question about what made the fries accompanying the ribeye "spicy," our server responded with a series of questions rather than a straightforward answer, including asking if I had issues with nightshades and what level of heat I tolerate on the Scoville scale. The interaction felt unnecessarily complicated and somewhat condescending. After checking with the kitchen, she said the fries could be made without the spice, so I ordered the dish. However, she then informed me that the ribeye itself had a chili rub, requiring another trip to the kitchen. While they ultimately said it could be prepared without the rub, I was told it would significantly delay the order. When the steak finally arrived, I was disappointed with the amount of fat on it, much more than the typical marbled ribeye. Overall, while the ambiance was enjoyable, the service created friction in what should have been a simple ordering process. A more direct and customer-friendly approach would have made a big difference. The F&B manager reached out to me through my Open Table information which I respected however, we don't plan on returning.

They said they've been partnering with a local supplier for years. And it really shows in the quality. It's in a museum. So finding it was a little difficult at first, not knowing what to look for. But once inside, it's a pretty awesome scene. Will be back for sure.
