The friendly employee cut the squares in half for me. Sorry, you can't see the awesome brownie very well under the wrapped banana bread

Yet another place in the neighborhood that I've been meaning to check out but never got around to it till last week! I ran in to pick up some "breakfast desserts" for a meeting. This place has an industrial feel to it, and in the dead of winter I can't imagine I'd ever want to hang out in there because it's cement floors and all windows. But since I was just picking up, no worries! They have a small but decent selection of goodies to choose from. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know I'm a sucker for date squares, so I of course got a few of those, plus a brownie and a cream cheese filled chocolate chip banana bread. To be honest, I was pretty disappointed with the date square. It was strange, but it's hard to describe why. The oat portion was thin, an orangish-yellow color, almost crispy on the bottom, and not much flavor. The date filling was also kinda thin and not overly exciting either. I won't buy it again from here (but remember, I'm a date square snob). The brownie, however, was devine! Thin layer of brownie-like crust on the bottom topped with a dreamy ganache - it was awesome!!!! The banana bread was underwhelming, but not bad and reasonably priced so I'd try it again. After I'd paid I noticed a top row of cookies and I kick myself for not seeing them in time so I'm definitely going to back one day to sit on their patio, have a coffee, a brownie, and at least one of their cookies! NOTE: this location is not in Capitol Hill, it's actually in Banff Trail. Not sure why they list themselves as such.....

It's a cute shop, good food & good service. I haven't been there recently but it was a nice place to sit down.

We really enjoyed our drinks (creamy and not too sweet) and my son said that his bagel with dill cream cheese was spot on! The staff are very friendly but this space is small and there are no tables/chairs here for customers -- we had to grab and go sit in the car. Too bad it was a cold January day and snowing -- there are picnic tables outside for customers.

Customer Service: 4/5 - Servers were polite. Service speed was average. Location: 3/5 - For most people it is a little out of the way. Not too many other shops nearby. Transit close by. Taste: 4/5 - I have only had a few menu items, but they were all very good. The coffee is smooth and strong. Menu: 4/5 - Menu is on the smaller side of average size with not many unique items. Might not please fussy eater. Sustainability: 2/5 - Couldn't find info on ingredient sourcing. No advertised sustainable initiatives. Strengths - Tasty. Weaknesses - Not the best location. Good items to buy: Caramel iced coffee, Cappuccino. Summary: 3.5/5 - Overall, I would recommend stopping by The Bullet Coffee House. They have great tasting caffeinated beverages. Their menu is on the smaller side of average size and may not please a fussy eater. Additionally, their shop is located a little bit out of the way for most people. The one area I think they could improve is by creating some sustainable initiatives. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope it helps you!!

There's a high bistro table up against the back wall before you head into the second sitting room. Four big plugins right there... yet only one table. Grab it! Also of note, the second sitting room. I hadn't actually ever wandered back there... instead choosing to settle in to the obvious tables in the front room. With the coffee machine going, sometimes it can get a little noisy. The back room, however, much quieter! Albeit some strange artwork on the walls. The choice spot looks to be the lounge chairs up by the window. I didn't do a hunt for power outlets back here. Weeds is still cash only, but the ATM remains in place should you need it. There is also always a steady stream of people coming in and out for their coffee. This is totally a neighbourhood hangout. Oh... and did I mention the apple strudel? I had some about a month back. There was more in the pastry display case today... I refrained, but it was hard. It's at the very least worth mentioning it to you in a review. Nice big slice. Yum. I like Weeds. It's laid back. Nobody's in a rush. So if you are, well... remember they're not. Service is prompt, but the staff are also catching up with the regulars while they work on your order. To be chastised? Nay! To be celebrated. It's part of the charm!

They do their best to keep up with all the traffic but there is still a 4-5 person wait in line on average. There is a Starbucks kiosk in the Safeway if you just want a quick in-and-out and their line up is maybe a couple of people at the most and only on occasion. A drive-thru might be better for this location, especially with the population density to increase in a few years with the University City condos coming in. In the interim, the mall could make more accommodations for their demand by adding more tables in the mall. Someone could easily take over the old Hula Juice shop across the way and make some money. Parking is terrible. It should really be parallel parking in front instead of perpendicular parking on a major laneway. Maybe in the next version ...

I not only want to be sipping on fantastic coffee, but I want to WANT to stick around for hours on end, writing, working and relaxing. Although this location of Starbucks attracts a diverse crowd (students, seniors and business folk alike), it's congested and small. There aren't any comfortable seats, and all the chairs and tables are normally taken. I've sat on their patio in the summer before and the view is just as dissapointing as the inside experience; It just looks onto a parking lot and surrounding stores. Nothing about this Starbucks would keep me in it for longer than 5 minutes. You may see me walk by, but you wont catch me pondering life's mysteries in this place. Hell to the No.

The pastry place is located in a good location. In midtown of Calgary. It is in the basement and I…read morecan see people not noticing this place existed. I found this place through Yelp and I am a big fan of pastries and desserts. To sum up, yes I have a sweet tooth. The presentation of their cakes (round, that can serve several people, 6' inch) are very ordinary. It looks like the cake that you get from any any grocery stores. It just doesn't look special. Not picture worthy. So now going to the single serving cakes. They have a good number of selections. When I came there were many selections left. I ended up going with the Diablo Torte. The presentation looks a lot nicer. If you put the single serving cake and the round 6 inches cake together, you would have no idea they are from the same bakery. I came really late in the day (around 5:30). I noticed that they were wrapping the cakes in saran wraps. I guess there is no guarantee that the cakes are made fresh on the day. So going back to the Diablo Torte. It was flourless and at first my concern was it being very dense. It wasn't dense but at the same time, it was not fluffy either. The cake wasn't super fresh. The cake kind of crumbled as I poke my fork into it. The chocolate on the top cracked (not a major concern for me). The chocolate in the cake wasn't as smooth and creamy as I hoped it. The cake seems to have a bit too much moisture in it. I am guessing the moisture must have been it sitting in the fridge too long. The Diablo Torte is a flourless cake and flourless cake requires a lot of skills to make. Yes the Diablo Torte does have the spicy cayenne kick. I wish it had more of the chocolate flavor. I have had really good cakes in the past. The cake I got is slightly lacking in flavor but still Decadent Brulee's Diablo Torte was not bad. The single serve cake itself was $7.09. Price vs taste! Not sure how they can charge that price. I mean at least it has a really nice presentation. The bakery is more of a grab and go place. There is only one table with 3 chairs. It would be difficult for a place for small talks. Also the place is quite small. I peaked into the kitchen and it seemed like the kitchen area is bigger than the area outside. Maybe, they get a lot of orders on cakes to go for parties. Yes they also serves coffee but from the looks of it, coffee is not their specialty. They also serves other pastries like cookies and etc. However, their cookies are not as delicious looking at some cookie specialty stores. It looked somewhat dry. I do want to point out that in Calgary there are not a lot of pastries and cake places. It is good there is Decadent Brûlée. Where I am from there are dime a dozen.
