This is truly my go to bowling alley in Reno, the vibes here just are too much fun, and being a child of a different time... *starts reminiscing* ...The music here is just absolutely fantastic, transports me back, help the stresses of the day to day melt away, and we get to just sit and have fun. Prices here are great, beats the hell out of Coconut Bowl that's for sure! The little bar area is the perfect mix of a little dingy, and super fun, charming is a word you could use for it. I wish that they had pool tables outside of the bar area because if I come with my kids, my wife and I can't play pool. But that's alright! It does make a kid free space where adult can escape from everyone's crotch goblins running around. I get it... Our family has been coming here for over four years with our daughter being a part of their junior league the entire time. We love coming here as a fun way to spend time with friends and family especially since our daughter is a little older and we can enjoy weekend evenings at their Rock It bowl. $14 per person per hour plus shoe rentals if needed. You get to enjoy great music in darkened lanes, tons of fun! Josh, Norm, and the other guys working in the evenings always keep things fun and entertaining. Although lovingly worn in its appearance, the lanes are super well maintained and bowling here was a real treat. The Pro Shop is well stocked, and the staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. I've read some reviews and I think folks leaving reviews that are only moderately flattering may not know what a treasure they have here. I love this place! One of the last of its kind and very nostalgic at that! The lanes are well kept and the staff is polite and welcoming. Price is reasonable and we've always gotten a lane. I haven't once had to reset the pins for getting stuck and the snacks are actually tasty! The bar is cozy with a brick fireplace and pool table and the bathrooms are clean and fully stocked. So this is a decent Bowling alley been a few times over the yrs and bow i live up here and we went with some friends last night for the kiddos, here is my Review Did you know that there is an age limit for bumpers. Not for me lol but for the kids , apparently cut off is like 8 yrs old . Now granted we don't go a lot but my son is not great but neither am i but he was struggling so we asked and at first they didn't want to accommodate him because of his age . He is 11. He by no means throws the ball or tries to go hard . He wanted to better his score and not get gutter balls . Is that a bad thing so he didn't feel bad because the other little kids his friends were using the bumpers too. My wife went back and asked and finally allowed. It literally is a button they push like cmon . It's not an accomplishment to take joy away. If they not good give them the assist. I was disappointed in how they handled this IMO!. I never been to a bowling alley that had an age requirement or cut off for kids . Next my good friend went to order a hot chocolate for her little girl and asked if it could be warm and not hot possibly . Simple request right? Well the woman behind the counter was somewhat rude and said "isn't all hot chocolate warm anyways "? I'm sorry i don't want my little girl to have blazing hot chocolate. I don't recall HOT chocolate being Warm ! Anywho got the warm hot coco but was Ok. We did order fries and they were fresh, hot, and crispy. The kids and adults enjoyed very much . The time that they close on yelp said 11:30 / Hrs on door say updated to 10pm closing but when got there about 8pm they close at 9! No where does it say , we were told when we got there . So there was time for 1 round unfortunately for the kiddos . I will put request in yelp for updated hrs. Had a couple blue-moon beers from the bar area and was refreshing and Bartender was very nice . I felt the customer service could have been a little better is all imo . Rudy is quite literally the best business owner in Reno. He is so nice and so cool. We are in our second league here. It was regular pins and they moved to string pins but it's okay. Rudy has for free taught me and my friends how to bowl and he is so knowledgeable. He also is in the leagues too so it's fun to get to play with the boss! I love all the ladies that work here too. The bakery lady makes the best cookies and desserts. They all have glitter in them too! There nachos are so huge and loaded. Everything is priced fairly. This place feels like a throwback to the 70s-80s bowling alleys, where it's a little bit grimy but somehow that's what makes this place cool imo. Went to a kids party here and it was loud and chaotic, but everyone had fun. The food was surprisingly decent despite being run by a couple of harried teens. Not somewhere you'd go just for the food mind you, but decent for the price and venue. Pizza was fluffy and zucchini sticks were very good, crisp on the outside and tender inside. My kids favorite aspect was the vintage mechanical arcade game where you maneuver a little ball up a slope to win prizes. Kind of neat to play this kind of old game. It's 50cent a play and we ended spending $10 on that game because it was a hoot. read more

I know the building isn't perfect...it's so old. They have been around for years. My in-laws and parents went here as kids. And don't get me wrong, some updates would be great but the lanes and pricing are fantastic. The staff was SO FRIENDLY and helpful. A few reasons I love this place: Locally owned. Yes I'm that person that would go back here because of this reason. Lanes are very well kept and clean They have a small arcade but nothing too distracting so my kids ACTUALLY want to bowl. Inexpensive. Shoe rental is 3.50 a person and a lane is 18 for the hour I believe. KIDS BOWL FREE for the summer. You can sign them up online. We did this! They have a bar...with kilt lifter on tap!! There is a snack bar but I didn't look to see what they had.. Anyway, overall I would come again it was fun for the family and not crazy distracting. This is a pretty standard bowling alley. My daughter wanted to go bowling as part of her birthday and this was right down the street from the Peppermill where we were staying. The service was great, quick, and easy. The prices were reasonable at $18 an hour + the fee for shoe rental ($3.50 a pair if I remember right) We got 2 hours (enough for 4 people to play 3 games). The lane we were on worked great and we had no issues. The people were very friendly and because it was a Monday afternoon it was pretty quiet. We ordered a pizza which was good and the kids (although they are sore loser) had fun. Can't ask for much more than that. Terrific alley!!!!!!! We were in town to bowl Nationals and stopped inside High Sierra a few times to get some games in. Great independent alley with a really welcoming hometown vibe. Excellent staff who were very kind and welcoming, really took care of us out of towners. The pro shop was excellent with a very kind and extremely knowledgable PSO behind the counter. Good prices, we bought a ball bag there as we brought way too many to town. Really fun well maintained lanes that were enjoyable to play on. I played on a couple different pairs in the house and they all played well with a fun challenging house pattern. Exceeded any of our expectations. Was the perfect place to get loose and have a terrific hour or two of practice. Great house! If you're in town and looking to get some games in, definitely stop into High Sierra! One of the few (if not only) free-standing bowling alleys in Reno... a beloved classic! Staff has been efficient and just friendly enough to keep us coming back each time. The equipment is not particularly state-of-the-art, but do you really need that for a good old 10-frame game? The standard amenities are there - full bar, pool tables, greasy snack food - as well as all the basic stuff you need to get your bowling groove on. Bowling has never been viewed as a luxury experience. It's called a alley for a reason so I typically have alley expectations. But there are a few things that drive this to a 2. 1. Would not allow us to have bumpers. Apparently there is a rule that no one over age 8 or 7 (depends on who you ask) is allowed bumpers. My petite 9 year old daughter had "blast" throwing 25 gutter balls. 2. The 1 hour timer started at the moment of purchase. We still had to get shoes, and find the kids bowling balls. This took a good 15 minutes. I called it out when I saw we were out of time and we were given 10 minutes. Just remember that the hour starts at the moment you pay. 3. Our lane broke and we were moved to the next lane over. That took 5 minutes to figure out. The next lane over somehow got out of wack with who was bowling and everyone started with the previous persons second throw. And there was a lip on the right gutter which corrected a lot of my daughters throws. Looks like we got a bumper after all. All in all nothing crazy. Like I said, it's bowling. We will look to other venues in the future though, specifically because we were not allowed to have bumpers for my daughter which really squashed her enjoyment. read more

We came in a few weeks ago on a visit to Reno to see the babies. It's hot and very little open right now with Covid. We looked at bounce places and other indoor things, but 2 littles under 4 are not going to keep a mask on when playing. They had 1 family at each ball return so you could take your masks off when in your own space, and the fans were blowing cold air! Went to get some snacks and the lady was the sweetest. I've been bowling here for the last several months and have had nothing but pleasant encounters with staff and a great time while I've been here. High Sierra features 24 lanes, a snack bar, full service bar with gaming and an in house pro shop. The food is always pretty good and include much of the typical bowling alley fare from pizza, nachos, burgers, sandwiches and several varieties of appetizer style snacks. The bar seats about a dozen people and also houses a couple of pool table and a jukebox if you want to control the jams. They also have video poker machines throughout but the only downside is you don't get drinks comped for gambling like many places. The bowling alley itself seems to be well maintained and has always had a clean appearance. All the staff there are friendly and welcoming. They have league bowling most night of the week so call ahead if your planning on a later bowling venture to make sure they will have lanes. They turn the party on for Rock-It bowl on Friday and Saturday nights where they crank up the music and turn on the black lights/ party lights. It's safe to say that this is my go to spot for when I want to go have a ball. read more

My son used to bowl on a league here for several years and we used to come and watch. We also come every year for the two Real Estate events in October and December. The events are wonderful and they do a fair job with the pizzas. They keep them coming at a pretty good pace. We have a blast every time we are invited. We also take the grandchildren here to bowl when we can and recently it was crowded so it must have been a league night. The building itself needs a lot of work, it is shoddy and it has a roof that has leaked over the years. Lots of staining and may have mold. This building really needs to be checked out and for the Real Estate price they are asking it is ridiculous. The business is only as good as the building meaning the repairs needed reflects on the business. Another issue is that the balls there for those that need them, are in bad shape. The have gouges, holes, and worn spots. Not everyone has their own ball especially kids. The rental shoes are worn out also. I know this is not a new building or business but a few changes would make a better experience for the customers. read more

Don't get me started on the shoes. So, sounds like a 3 average, right? Not so fast. I know this is a local business which I give an automatic pass on a few things since supporting local families is important to me. The service based on the above can follow the family moods. Sometimes it feels like they are happy you came in, and sometimes you feel like they could care less. Stale building? Yes, for now this is the only "game" on this side of town. I don't know where local bowling is going, but I have been to beautiful modern bowing alleys in other markets the size of Reno. If one of these opened in the new Parklane or Shoppers Square, this bowling alley would be obsolete. . So how do they eke out a 4 star rating in this? Glow in the dark bowling to upbeat music with a nice sound system means they have not given up and still can put a great "spin" on a leisure sport that dates back 5000 years. read more

I needed to buy a bowling ball for my weekly family bowling night. I found High Sierra Lanes located within walking distance from the Atlantis Casino Hotel. If there were more operations like High Sierra Maybe, just maybe, bowling alleys across the US wouldn't be shutting down so quickly. Rudy the owner and Jeff Jensen, whom runs the pro shop at High Sierra are both Hall of Famers. These guys didn't just sell me a bowling ball and end of story. The service I received was so above and beyond my expectations and that is why I feel compelled to write this review. As such, I will not spoil it for you with details. So we had our bowling league sweepers here unfortunately was very cramped for so many people, however the place was super fun!!

We visited this place on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. They had available lanes and open bowling. We were greeted immediately upon entrance and the staff was super friendly. 2 adults and 2 children ages 7 and 8 years old. The cool part was the staff was super attentive and willing to help immediately before us even expressing a need. My kid was super excited and tossed his ball into the next lane where a very serious league bowler was practicing. What could have been a super embarrassing moment, was quite the opposite. Not only was the staff there to assist very quickly but the awesome bowler on that lane made it his mission to teach my son how to bowl. He allowed him to bowl on his lane and coached him. What an awesome guy!! This place is cleaner than most bowling alleys we have visited. It's a separate bar area complete with a pool table. The concession stand was nice and reasonable prices. We're ordered a few snacks and picture of soda. Outside of the noise from the bowling balls it was pretty quiet in there. I'm used to loud noise, music, and tons of chatter. I think this place is a perfect family bowling alley. We will definitely be back. read more

Very unprofessional and rude management. As I was leaving the thrift store today, another customer and I both started to hear a commotion. I turn around to see a man and a women and the man was yelling at the woman (who I found out to be the manager of the thrift store) about his "property line" he then stated he was affiliated with this bowling alley. I won't be giving my money to a company who has RUDE and aggressive management. No thank you! Unfortunate because this location is fairly close to where I live. Shame. read more
