There are a ton of lifeguards and you can get really good exercise in the 45 minutes you are allowed to swim in the pool. This pool has a baby area, a winding shallow end, a deep end with a diving board and another shallow end that acts as the outpost for the best free water slide in all of the land. A tall, yellow winding water slide that can make a grown woman squeal with childish delight. Beyond all of this, the deck is huge with equal parts shade and sun and a lovely mixture of families and adults. It's far less busy than the pool at Bathurst and Dundas. Crap, I probably shouldn't have written this review, but it's OK, I'll share...

They allowed me to goof off in the recreational skating area with a friend in a wheelchair when it wasn't crowded. They have skates for rent and hot chocolate for sale. In terms of swimming, showers are old but work. There is an accessible shower corner with railings, seat and shower hose. Change rooms have ample bench space and you have the choice between coin operated lockers or just leaving your stuff in the cubbyholes. The lanes are WIDE and the pace is much slower than usual. Last time I went, their fast lane was a little crowded and almost everyone was going at a medium pace. The medium lane was extremely slow but I was able to get away with drills and sprints with only two other swimmers in there.

There are 3 courts for badminton, and the same space is used for other sports. There is also a running track upstairs where you can run 19 laps, which is equivalent to 1 mile. There's also a nice swimming pool, along with an area for ping pong. I heard there is a workout room somewhere, but I have still yet to explore the rest of the facility. Just today I discovered some music rooms downstairs!!!! This community center keeps surprising me with new discoveries lol. The quality of this place is not too new, but it's not falling apart either. It is nicely maintained. The best part.... free parking lol.

There's a small but smart weight room, great pool, gym with a new floor and lots of multipurpose and studio space. For new parents, families new to the area, or anyone who wants to get or stay active, it's the perfect place. My only criticism ever was with the kids karate instructor. He seems to like to make kids cry, seems to have a chip on his shoulder and in general isn't that good at karate. That's one minus in 3 years of pluses, so whatever.

Caveat: I have *never* successfully swum straight laps here for more than about 10 minutes at a time, and once an old lady spat on the floor in the shower.

(This review is for the gym only, but the Rec Centre is a huge complex with lots available). - Good amount of free weights and machines. Well organized. - Good instructional info posted on the wall as to how to do exercises - Decent selection of cardio equipment that runs well... although if you are planning to come after work I'd check out how the crowd is before committing. - Washrooms are reasonably clean although change area is small. - Access to certain times in pool. - Little/no classes. - You're not inundated with ads everywhere. - No initiation, pay all at once (may be required). - Staff is not too involved - Don't know if personal training is available. - Not sure if there is towel service (don't think so).

Since my last critique of this place I didn't think the city could do anything to make me anymore…read morecritical, for starters this summer if I choose this facility to swim due to the city's decision to have universal change rooms I will have to bare all in front of little girls, however without seeing the irony or perhaps in spite of it, the city decided it was necessary to have a women's only shinny(hockey) which runs regardless of how many women(cis only, sorry T-girls, you aren't welcome)show up, while at the same time having universal change rooms during the summer. Aside from this the recreation staff are phenomenal and great sports when it comes to dealing with the all the blow back from patrons who are negatively effected by this. As for pleasure skating which I have to do during the ladies time, it can be quite enjoyable up until the rink staff leave for the night and both pads become a free for all hockey game, if you are a new skater or like my self you aren't the next Wayne Gretzky, or Elvis Stojko, I recommend avoiding the rink after supervised hours, on the flip side if you want a no rules environment after they leave is the best time to go.
