There are 3 courts for badminton, and the same space is used for other sports. There is also a running track upstairs where you can run 19 laps, which is equivalent to 1 mile. There's also a nice swimming pool, along with an area for ping pong. I heard there is a workout room somewhere, but I have still yet to explore the rest of the facility. Just today I discovered some music rooms downstairs!!!! This community center keeps surprising me with new discoveries lol. The quality of this place is not too new, but it's not falling apart either. It is nicely maintained. The best part.... free parking lol.

There's a small but smart weight room, great pool, gym with a new floor and lots of multipurpose and studio space. For new parents, families new to the area, or anyone who wants to get or stay active, it's the perfect place. My only criticism ever was with the kids karate instructor. He seems to like to make kids cry, seems to have a chip on his shoulder and in general isn't that good at karate. That's one minus in 3 years of pluses, so whatever.

If you can get over the Soviet-era architecture, lack of natural lighting, "asbestos" warning…read moresigns, and maze-like interior, then Athletic Centre is right for you. It will make you an athlete and there's plenty of equipment and facilities to show for it. Membership is already included in your UofT student tuition, but you can always opt out. The gym features an indoor track/field house, dance and fencing studios, squash courts, and Olympic-sized pools. In spite of the intimidating, performance-athlete-only vibe that emanates from the front door, you can still get inspired by the many jacked powerlifters and kinesiology students that frequent the SCC (Strength & Conditioning Centre). In this glorious facility you'll find at least 5 squat/power racks (grab them while you can), sizeable weights, and lots of cable machines. One of the leg machines are always broken but IMO they're not the important ones anyways. The olympic weightlifting platforms are where the gold's at. If lifting's not for you, then take advantage of the free fitness and conditioning classes on offer, or the paid lessons for finer things like karate or fencing. They're lots of fun, taught by masterful instructors in their field, and open to non-students too. In fact, unlike the rest of University of Toronto, a class at Athletic Centre will actually equip you with real skills. -1 star because you don't want to die alone in here, where the sun don't shine; the older AC staff are usually grumpy (always approach the younger student workers); and there really should be more cardio machines.

It's a…read moreperfectly adequate facility if it's free with your tuition; however, paying it for it was quite a waste of money for me. Unfortunately, I left more disappointed than satisfied. The GOOD: If you like to swim, they do have a nice Olympic size pool. I think this is by far the best aspect of this facility with good dedicated lap swim time. Also, if you like running indoors in winter, they have a 200 meter track. Hours are also quite generous. The BAD: They only have something like 12 elliptical machines...this is for a campus of 80,000 staff and students. Prepare for the hassle of signing up and waiting. The locker rooms are dirty, crowded, and dingy. The weight room is a mixed bag: they have a lot of equipment, but it's undersized for the usage and filled with more meathead types. Not an environment I like. The facility is also very awkwardly spread out without much natural light...kind of depressing. The UGLY: No treadmills, no stairmasters...how can these staples of cardiovascular torture (I mean fitness) be completely absent? Classes like spinning or yoga cost extra and are not cheap. OVERALL, I went here because it was close to my office. The waits and lack of cardio equipment resulted in under-utilization. I also just never enjoyed working out here. I've switched to GoodLife and haven't looked back.

It's relatively new, clean and modern. There's free parking, although during the day, the parking that faces the front entrance tends to be pretty full because it shares a lot with the Catholic school next door. However there is plenty of parking around the sides. The classroom is easily accessible on the first floor just past the information desk, and is nice and big - tons of space. The pool is very nice - it is accessible downstairs, so if you have a stroller you need to take the elevator down one floor. There are male and female change rooms, but also there's a family co-ed change room which is nice when I've come with my husband, we can be tougher getting our son changed etc. The change rooms are clean and pretty easy to use with a baby - plenty of benches to lay them down for a second while you get dressed. What's really nice is that you can not only bring your stroller into the change room, but you can also bring it onto the pool deck and leave it in a designated area, which is super helpful. The pool itself is pretty warm, and has a ramp which makes it easy to hold your baby while walking in. The only thing I don't like is the time for pre-school swim time, which is Thursdays at 1:45pm, smack in the middle of nap time. Who plans this stuff? The swim is free to do, and is a great way to get an epic nap from your little one. All in all, I really like Memorial. I just wish they'd fix the wheelchair automated doors to the exterior, they always stick and it makes it tough with a stroller.

As of July 2011…read more.. Alexandra Park pool water temp is COLD. I was told by a lifeguard that the pool is leaking, and to compensate they are pumping in fresh tap water 24/7. I repeat, the water is COLD. I'm a competitive swimmer and enjoy training in cooler water (70-72F) but this is kind of ridiculous. I would say it's not more than 63F-ish. Alexandra Park pool is 50 yards long. Weird and a bit rare to see that in North America anymore. All City of Toronto outdoor pools are all free for everyone to enjoy. The showers in the men's changerooms kind of suck, the shower heads should be replaced, they kind of spit out water everywhere else than on your body. Other than that, the changerooms are clean and spacious. Not sure about the earlier poster's comments about people being young and beautiful. The patronage reflects the diversity of Toronto much like everywhere else in the city. I didn't notice any pervs or skeevs, just local residents enjoying a free city pool. I'm a swimmer and come for adult lap swimming at night, and just might have been the grape smuggler to which she makes reference. It's much easier to swim 4000 yds in a speedo as opposed to board shorts.
