I contracted with a tree trimmer and paid $375 to have the branches removed. The tree trimmer was recommended by Beth from Peter Leland/Farmers. Farmers/Leland then wrote a homeowners policy for the property (#95401-98-37). Less than a month later, a representative from Leland's office called me to tell me that the policy was being canceled for reasons unrelated to the branch removal (the presence of a particular large tree in close proximity to the house was acceptable on the pre-insurance inspection, but the company later changed its mind and decided that the tree's presence was unacceptable and canceled the policy which it already had written). Since I had spent $375 solely to comply with the insurer's requests, I demanded a refund of that money. The agency refuses to respond to email and telephone requests for refunds. Peter Leland and/or Farmers should immediately issue a refund of $375 to me. The only reason I spent that money was to comply with their demand that the branches be trimmed as a prerequisite for obtaining a homeowners policy. I spent the money at their request, and they have reneged on their representation that I would be insured as a result of spending that money. The above is a copy of the complaint that I am filing with the state Department of Insurance. I have copies of the email in which Leland's office recommended a tree trimmer, copies of the invoice, and (obviously) a copy of the cancellation notice. Simply put, my wife and I are out a stack of cash because we trusted this insurance agent who told us that if we spent the money on branch removal, we would get an insurance policy. We are writing this review in the hopes that other potential customers will not suffer the same fate.
