Walked in yesterday after a friend recommended HiFi Buys to me as I was looking for a turntable. I had previously looked at a Project RPM3 at a different store but that purchase did not work out. As soon as my partner and I walked in to HiFi Buys, the owner, Alan, greeted us and spent time demonstrating various turntables which all sounded great. We decided on a Rega P3 with an Exact 2 cartridge as well as a MoFI phono preamp - great value and amazing sound! Full disclosure, I haven't purchased anything from HiFi Buys yet. Emphasis on the yet. So if I hadn't bought anything, why am I leaving a review? Simply put, this store and its staff deserve recognition for customer service and an experience that I haven't felt from any retail business. My wife gifted me an amp that was an upgrade from what I was using for 2 channel listening. Upon connecting the amp to the setup, I noticed that I found my speakers to be overly bright and fatiguing and as such, I wanted to upgrade them. On our first visit, Bryan walked us through the showroom and let us listen to a few sets of speakers and near the end of the visit, I was leaning towards some KEFs. I asked for his business card and said I needed some time to think about it. Later that evening, I emailed asking how long it would take to get the speakers and what their return policy was. Instead, Bryan recommended that I borrow the floor model of the speakers I was eyeing to see if I liked how they sounded in my space since I live and work close to the store. I mulled it over and before I agreed, I visited one more time to listen to the speakers. While Bryan wasn't there that day, Russel was just as courteous and played some other tracks for me to listen to. I should note that during both visits, the owner Alan came over to me to talk about what I was looking for and talked about what he liked about the speakers I was eyeing. It wasn't in a pushy salesman manner; more like providing guidance in a shared passion. Anyway, I took the speakers home and they weren't impressive in my space, as there wasn't anything overly night and day different than what I have. I admittedly was devastated. These speakers are beautiful and really stirred emotion while listening to them at the store. My wife and I realized that it's probably more or less because of the space I have for a listening room (it's a weird space and a by-product of having to cram a home office in because pandemic). The other thing is that these were bookshelf speakers and I think I lean more towards tower speakers (plus we have a troublesome cat that knocks over furniture and speakers on top of stands put a fear of god in me). We talked about it and decided that I'll redo the space so it's more in line with what it was pre-pandemic so I can have a larger listening space again. Additionally, as I approach 50 (f-----ck), we're trying to be more purposeful with our purchases; buying things that we can use and enjoy for decades (end game type stuff) and leaning towards a more higher end speaker (towers of course). When that time comes in the next few months, without a doubt and without hesitation, we'll be buying them from this store. read more

Alan and the entire staff at HiFi Buys are just extraordinary. I dropped in today because I happened to be in the area and I hadn't popped by in a while. I spent about an hour sampling some vinyl in one of their music rooms and then Alan moved me over to their streaming setup to compare a couple of DACs. You can tell the entire staff truly comes from a place of passion for what they do and they're extremely accommodating and low pressure. I get the sense Alan understands that HiFi audio is a unique niche that allows the music and gear to make the sale. Other than knowledge and likability, very little is required of the sales associate to gain a lifelong customer. The facility and selection of gear are excellent, but refined and selected with purpose. In other words, it's not the Walmart of HiFi gear. I brought my Rega in about a year ago with concerns that I'd damaged the stylus in my cartridge. The guys checked it out, gave me a clean bill of health, and didn't charge me a thing for their time. I didn't buy my turntable from HiFi Buys either, so that made an impression. They'll definitely have my business in the very near future when I upgrade my current system. read more

I cant say enough positive statements regarding HIFI Buys staff and support. I purchased a new Samsung TV and could not connect my SONY (purchased at HIFI BUYS) receiver to my TV to get audio from the receiver to my KEF speakers. I tried numerous times and hours trying to figure out what I am doing wrong!!! I couldn't get it to work!!! I called HIFI Buys and talked with OMRI WILLIAMS, he told me to bring my SONY in and they will take a look to see what's up. He mentioned they will take a look but I might need to leave it. When I arrived OMRI remembered my call and started talking with the staff to help me with my issue. Install Manager CHRIS LOWE starts troubleshooting my SONY. HE WAS AWESOME...It took a while to figure it out (I felt good not feeling like an idiot) but he solved the problem and I felt confident it would work when I got home. During the time we had to wait, OMRI was awesome making us feel at home with his friendly hospitality. What I found amazing, after a couple hours of my SONY needing a long system update (which I didn't even know it needed - thanks Chris) and the time Chris needed to troubleshoot...what was my charge? What an awesome place!!! NO CHARGE....WHAT??? NO CHARGE. WOW, where do you get service like that today??? HIFI BUYS, THAT'S WHERE!!! I am not saying you're issue will be like mine, but you know you can TRUST HIFI BUYS in what they are doing. THANK YOU HIFI BUYS...you have my loyal support!!! I've been seeking headphones that met a set of criteria that meant slim choices. Made a couple of purchases through Amazon and Best Buy that I returned because they weren't satisfying, but there was no way to try them out pre-purchase. I knew HiFi Buys was an audiophile's dream and anticipated being intimidated and minimized by my budget of $400, which isn't much in the high-end audio world. I visited them on Saturday, July 10th, hoping to once and for all, find headphones that met my criteria, at a price I could afford. Entered the store to find a headphone bar. Broad price range but all good quality, nicely displayed and ready to try. Met Chris Doughty, who was easy going yet very helpful, friendly, informative and not at all intimidating or dismayed by my budget. In minutes I was testing a set of headphones he recommended and they were PERFECT. On top of that, at this incredible store with amazing gear and true expertise on staff assisting me, these were cheaper than I'd seen them priced through other more general retailers. I should have begun my search at HiFi Buys! After choosing headphones and making my purchase, then meeting their awesome resident pooch, "HiFi," as well as some other friendly team members,, and obviously with no more $ to spend, Chris asked if he could show my wife and I some cool equipment...just because it's fun and they seem proud of what they do and what they sell. Chris asked for a fav album choice from us, then teed up Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" on a system in one of their plush listening rooms. System cost as much as a nice house and was beyond anything I'd ever seen or heard. He then left, closed the door and let us chill on a leather sofa to soak up some Pink Floyd on a system that was mind-blowing. Disney World for audiophiles. Nothing more to sell us, yet he created a fascinating and fun experience for us. I will be back at HiFi Buys for EVERY audio purchase I make going forward. Got the perfect headphones, with expert advice, at a great price, met a bunch of no-pressure, friendly folks and one awesome pooch, and had a blast experiencing some out of this world audio gear. I've been an amateur audiophile most of my life, and one of the great pleasures is the quest to find that piece that is going to move the needle on your set while staying in (let's be honest, near...lol) your budget. Having knowledgeable salespeople help you find it with the patience to do the requisite a/b auditions is an experience that mostly just doesn't exist any more. But it does here. Alan and his team are absolutely aces, and if you're the least bit serious about home audio, they have something for you and are happy to show and tell you everything you need to know. I literally could not be happier with the experience. After much research, my selection was not even on my radar initially. Their staff is very knowledgeable, very attentive, accommodating and offers all the options and services you'd expect with a high profile licensed retailer. However, without the overbearing pretentious attitude. They definitely had positive control over their store, ensuring that the multiple protocols and mandates from both the CDC governing officials and local laws were indeed in enforced and in place. I called prior to my first visit to see if I could sample a setup and they ensured by the time I got there it was ready to go, and boy did I have an amazing time. I've lived in Atlanta since 1991, and used to love the original HiFi Buys before they were bought by Tweeter and subsequently out of business. They tried to evolve with the changing times of A/V, but were not able to. During that evolution in parallel enters Alan Jones in 1995 with a small audio focused shop in Lilburn. Fast forward roughly 20 years, and Mr. Jones moves his store to Buckhead and the HiFi Buys name is brought back to life. If you are in the niche market of very high end audio gear, you likely already know the story. I am sharing with Yelpers so that they are both educated and prepared should they choose to go to HiFi Buys. And let me be clear, anyone into decent audio equipment should visit HiFi Buys. If you are in the market for a turntable or higher quality digital/streaming gear, this to me is the only good option in Atlanta. There are a couple of other boutique options plus the Magnolia shops inside of Best Buy. I've been to them all, and in my opinion, Alan Jones has the best gear and the best staff. Even if you are not ready to buy, David or Alan will spend plenty of time with you to help educate and let you listen. Warning! If you are looking to spend a few hundred bucks on a component and/or system, this likely is not the place for you. They certainly have some awesome deals. For example, they have ELAC bookshelf speakers that get rave reviews and are roughly $400 a pair. And then they have other brands like KEF and Vandersteen that put you into 5 digits. Lots of choices on turntables from $300-$2000 Pro-ject and Regas. Then 4 and 5 digit brands like VPI and Brinkmann. Plenty of A/V receivers from Sony for the more standard consumer prices. Then NAD and Anthem for the really high end. Plus plenty of A/V separates from brands like NAD and Parasound. Interested in Hi-Fi streaming instead of the compressed world of Apple Music or Spotify? THIS IS THE PLACE! They have a good selection of Audioquest cables and other accessories. I know they also do custom work and Home Theatre installs. That isn't the world I live in so I can't speak from direct experience, but based on the experiences I have had with Alan and staff, I am willing to bet they are the best there too. The location is well marked with a sign on Peachtree bearing the original HiFi Buys logo. But the actual shop is behind the Peachtree facing side of the building. Parking is sufficient as it is the kind of business that usually only has a handful of clients at a time. If you are into decent, high-end, super high-end, or stupid high-end gear, this is the shop for you. Go in, ask for Dave or Alan and be prepared to drool and/or spend. If you are looking for a budget sound-bar or a great deal on TV, that is awesome and there is zero wrong with that. I have plenty of that kind of gear, and for that, Best Buy is perfect. I just want to make sure I am properly setting expectations. I also want to clarify that the staff there in no way are elitist. They treat everyone with the utmost respect, and they will steer you appropriately based on your needs and budget. So don't be afraid to go in and see if they have the right gear for you even if you are not sure if they are the right kind of shop for you. read more

Over the past 12 years or so I have visited the store in Buckhead and previously in Lilburn and have always had my questions answered whether I was buying or not. I purchased speakers, then upgraded my system (their advice on setup before we built out the room saved me a lot of time and looked much cleaner). Recently had a much smaller budget for a system and they nailed that too. It sounds great. Tom came out recently after the cable crew unhooked several cables and told me my system hookup (which had worked fine for years) was the problem. He reconnected my prepro properly and, guess what? It works fine with the cable again. My advice, give them a visit. Tell them your budget and they will work up a nice sounding system in that price range. A simply sublime hifi shop run by a Mr. Alan Jones. Lots of square footage (a real treat for someone used to the smallish SF shops) of great gear. 1st review after a few visits. I was looking for some updated home stereo equipment to enjoy my record collection. I don't know the entire backstory, but HiFi Buys has been around ATL for decades under different ownership. Sounds like the current owner had a successful shop in a different location prior to obtaining the shop. You will find a wide selection of high-end stereo equipment at the shop. Nothing is cheap, but they do have entry level pieces. Salesmen seem very knowledgeable and can help with building your system. Installation services are also available and I had a very good experience with Tom who heads this division. If you are planning on investing in a stereo system this is a shop that you should consider. Check the website for details. read more

I have been dealing with this HiFi store since it was located in Lilburn, GA, as Audio Alternative.  Allan has been there the whole time.  I have SLOWLY upgraded over the years, and he has never been pushy.  I assembled a fairly motley high end system, mostly with used pieces.  Thiel CS3.6, which they sold a lot of back in the day, and they were very helpful.  More recently, we added a record player to the system and began collecting vinyl.  With each upgrade, HiFi buys was there.  Ultimately got to the point where my preamp and expensive analog to digital converter were fighting.  Allan asked me to bring in my entire system, and proved that what was between the turntable and the speakers was the problem, because my turntable sounded great with the correct equipment.  They let me bring in my records and spent hours with me listening to music.  Ultimately I left with the Parasound Halo P6 preamp with phono stage.  That was a big improvement.  But Allan dropped a hint that a new amplifier, the Parasound Halo A21+, would really bring my Thiels to life.  He was right.  We have spent more time listening to music as a family with the arrival of that amp than ever before.  My wife can hear the difference.  And chooses to go listen on the stereo.  That's the most impressive thing I can say.  That a non-audiophile can appreciate that one product is clearly superior to another amp that was in the system.  Allan and the team will be patient with you, building a relationship over years.  And they'll never push you to purchase something of poor quality to make a sale.  The entire team comes highly recommended.  If you're in the area, stop by and give things a listen.  You'll be glad you did. read more

It is so nice to see the HiFi Buys brand return to the streets of too rapidly changing Buckhead... The new shop is gorgeous, friendly and full of fantastic audiophile gear that spans the range of entry level to "You gotta be kidding me...but, if I win the lottery well..." Audiophile shops can be intimidating and it was a great relief to feel welcomed by Chris and the owner, Alan. Both spent time with us making sure that we were getting this ohmage and sensitivity stuff straight. Over nearly two hours we discussed our budget, room constraints and wants and needs with Chris as demoed speakers in our price range (even aiming for the low end of it!). He's the kind of dude who knows about gear and truly wants to share that appreciation with the customer. He never made us feel like rubes or unworthy just because we were working on a budget and probably don't fit with the profile of their average customer. For anyone who has spent time in audiophile shops and come away feeling confused or condescended to, HiFi Buys is just the opposite experience. I have never personally bought an item from HiFi. With that said their customer service is top notch. I have some audio equipment and have gone in to check the store out and ask questions. They are more than helpful and will point you in the right direction without trying to force a sale. They are a wealth of knowledge in audio/video equipment and are happy to have you experience the amazing equipment they have set up in store. You can stay on your couch and order your equipment from Amazon. There is probably a Best Buy near you. However, you are missing out if you don't make the trip down to HiFi Buys. I was fortunate enough to work with David in picking out my relatively low-end equipment. He spent a significant amount of time explaining differences in systems and letting me listen to multiple systems. He did not try to upsell me, and, in fact, I ended up with something less than what I told him my budget was. If you are someone who just has music on in the background or because you think people will think you are cool with your fancy equipment, then MAYBE you would be fine going somewhere else and buying whatever. However, if you are somebody who truly loves music and gets into it at a deeply emotional level, you will find your squad at HiFi Buys, and there is no place else you ought to go. read more

I love the experience, expertise and customer service owner Alan Jones and his staff consistently deliver. I've owned a vinyl collection and turntables for 40 years. I first purchased a Rega turntable from Alan back when he owned Audio Alternative in Lilburn. A few years later, I phoned him to inquire about replacing my cartridge and after asking about my listening habits, he told me my current cartridge would still serve me well. Now as the owner of the revived HiFi Buys in Buckhead, Alan and his staff were my first choice when I finally needed to replace my cartridge and belt. Staffer Mike Doughty patiently talked me through my various options and I opted to upgrade both my cartridge and belt. My table has never sounded more pristine. For vinyl enthusiasts, they also carry a carefully curated selection of LPs to thumb through. When I came in to pick up my table, Alan had it hooked up and ready to play so I could hear the enhancements before I left the store. He personally carried my turntable out to the car for me. I recently purchased a piece of equipment from HiFi Buys here in Atlanta following the suggestions of the staff and after some listening for both myself and my wife. Firstly the staff took the time to understand my needs and provide solutions that met my requirements over two listening sessions. I am delighted with the choice and the purchase. But that is only aspect one of the experience, indeed I had a problem, a fuse went off and I needed help. These are the times when you need your store to support you the most, and now that we are almost all working from home being able to listen to our preferred music is not only a pleasure but is also much needed therapy. The staff was amazing in both troubleshooting, providing the answer and providing the parts I needed to get back up and running. Despite all the restrictions they went to Fedex and dropped off what I needed even though they were closed and got the things to me in record time. Working with Tom and the rest of their knowledgeable staff made the experience a breeze - they helped us choose the right components (purchased from their store at prices comparable to the competition), worked with our contractor to ensure we had the right electrical and structural support, and installed the new equipment. Too bad I can't make this a zero star review: Apparently this business needs to make money after their doors close at 7pm, so be warned. We went to dinner across the street, parked in an empty parking lot, across the street and received not one, but two boots on our car. Our dinner reservation was at 8pm. The restaurant was able to show us shredded warning signs about parking next to their restaurant. Truly bad form and obvious desperation for dollars. As an added bonus, the poor person who took this job and came to take the boots off the car, doesn't even make change..... read more
