I booked an appointment with AJ and went for a tapered fade with more length on top. The moment I walked in, I loved the real retro San Clemente feel of the shop. It has personality, character, and zero cookie cutter barbershop energy. Different from what I was used to, but in the best possible way. AJ absolutely knocked it out of the park. He was relaxed, confident, and genuinely personable. At no point did I feel unsure or second guess the process. You can immediately tell he is a true professional who knows exactly what he is doing. Watching other clients come and go, it was obvious everyone was leaving happy and looking sharp. This is officially my new spot. I walked out feeling like a kid who just got a fresh haircut and immediately started doing the happy dance all the way to the car. He was very rude, and absolutely butchered by hair. He tried to buzz the top with clippers, and I told him I wanted scissors and he said he doesn't do that. Then he asked me why I wanted it that way. I told him it looks better and he replied "bro, you ever cut hair before?" Nope. Can't say I have. But I have eyeballs and can see when an unskilled barber butchers a haircut. Sad that this shop as gone downhill. I know good help is hard to find, but Victor used to give the best cut in the area. Sad that he left to open up his own place. I'll be visiting his shop next time I'm in town. Never again will I be visiting this shop. My wife said the guy who walked out before I walked in, who had the same barber, was also upset with his cut. Him and his buddies were taking a good look at the job and were disappointed.
