The Cold Brew was outstanding. Sandwiches were light on ingredients but very tasty. Reminder me of Pascuals in Santa Fe NM. This is such a cozy little spot! They're right on the corner of the walking mall so when the weather is too hot or too cold, I like to stop in here before heading back down to the other end. They have coffee drinks, I love their cafe au lait, and teas. My daughter usually gets an iced herbal tea and is always happy. They also have a few beer and wine selections. I have never tried the food here but there's always someone eating when I'm there so it must be alright. They also have cute little mugs and gifts to buy. It's a sweet little spot. read more

This is by far my favorite coffee place in Winchester. The owners and staff are always friendly and greet you, even when there's a rush. I've never had a bad drink here; I usually get the plain latte or, in season, the pumpkin spice latte, but I've also had a great mocha latte here. Iced coffee is good too. I've only had sandwiches from the menu, but they've always been excellent. It's a great location if you're going to be in downtown Winchester. read more

I love this place so much! It's progressive, lovely, and has a true sense of community. The staff are so kind and the drinks are delicious. I really enjoy their chai latte and house coffee. This is a very LGBTQ+ friendly atmosphere but many people come to gather here including book clubs and those running drives for charity. I highly encourage you check it out - it is a true gem and one of my favorite things about Winchester. I'm hoping to check out a drag show here sometime in the future. My husband and I stopped in with our two toddlers for some coffee and some breakfast sandwiches. The bacon, egg, and cheese croissant wasn't much to look at, but the second it hit my mouth I knew I'd made the right choice. The croissant was light and buttery, the cheese was real, and the eggs were, too. It proved to be warm and delicious simple breakfast perfection. My husband said the coffee was very good and I found the chai tea (brewed in house) to be tasty as well - I added a couple splenda to mine as I like everything on the sweeter side - but it was a very nice blend of spices. Service was quick and the man taking our order was very pleasant. We liked the decor and there is plenty of room for folks to come in and stay a while. It's on the far corner of the walking mall by First Pres, so we opted to street park rather than park in the garage on Braddock Street. My only regret is that I wasn't able to try a cinnamon roll - they didn't have any available at the time we went - so we'll have to return. Might try a scone, too, while we're at it. read more

As a tea drinker in a coffee area, I've learned to not expect much but the Hideaway is a gem in this regard too and the choices here are outstanding! The owner took the time to discuss my preferences with me and explain a bit about several of the different teas they have available to help me decide...in the end, I decided to try more than one and they are all delicious! One word of caution - it's not a big place, and there's only one person preparing the food, so if you happen to arrive at a busy time, you will be waiting for your food for a while, and if there's more than 1 person in the party, it's likely you'll not receive the food at the same time. Came here early in the morning. It was hard to find as the entrance is well "Hidden" just like the name. I love the place decor and how spacious it is. There was limited pastries and the coffee tasted sour. Both of drinks were very sour and we addressed it to barbista. She said it may due to the machine off calibrated over night. Lovely little place and I loved being able to go there with my kids after a library date. Atmosphere is so relaxing and my son enjoyed the table games and coloring sheets. However, we no longer go after my son asked me for candy from what looked like a candy jar but instead was a condom jar. I understand having all that available but putting it in candy machines and jars in colors that appeal to children and having to explain why he can't have this "candy" is not the type of conversation I want to be having with my four year old. read more

My husband and I were here this morning- service was terribly rude, pretentious and coffee was good but not good enough to come back. I recommend going to the other end of the walking mall where you can get coffee an hour earlier with much more pleasant company. This was my second visit to this shop and the gentleman who made my coffee didn't even look me in the eye when he handed it to me. They claim to be open minded but we felt very unwelcome. Came here for the first time the other day. I ordered a cappuccino which was very small and not the best I'd ever had. My partner ordered a regular filter coffee with milk and it was terrible. First of all, prior to today, I never had a yelp account, I never left any reviews and I never even gave surveys a second thought. However, Hideaway Cafe gave me such a great experience that I not only plan on coming here regularly, but I want to tell everyone I know about this Winchester hidden gem. I need to address something that no one will bring up but should. The Bathroom. You heard me correctly. Hideaway Cafe has the most majestical bathroom in the planet and I simply have to exclaim the glorious gem that is their restroom. Picture this if you will. You see a teal door with a Unicorn with flowing pink locks and the word "restroom" in big black letters. You will also notice the door nob is textured with yellow and blue flowers and raised white dots. The very second you walk in this tiny little bathroom you are bombarded with bright pink walls, A human sized mirror and a polite, framed sign asking you to properly dispose sanitary items. While your sitting on the porcelain throne you look up and notice a petite chandelier is your prime source of light. And yes, they use soft toilet paper. Not the cheap paper like material you tend to get at other restaurants. As you wash your hands on this bitty little sink, you notice a Kraken has graced its presence over the sink with black words across his tentacles stating that water comes faster then you think. Thus it warns you not to release the Kraken. In the end you leave the magic of the bathroom feeling both clean and majestic. I can not make this up, this bathroom is amazing and accurately represents the fun and the care free attitude that is Hideaway Cafe! read more

Okay so I am going to give the reason why I gave this shop only 4 start up front. Although their website does say everyone is welcome, to include individuals with disabilities, the entire shop is not accessible if you use a wheelchair, walker, four arm crutches or you cannot go up and down stairs. Now, the shop is required to provide quarters for the public restrooms which are located on the Winchester walkway. Great, if a) the restrooms are accessible and b) the weather is not super ugly. Seating: on the lower level the only fully accessible table is the nice picnic type table right in the front of the shop. If you can transfer from your wheelchair or are more mobile there is a nice couch with a coffee table in front. There is more sitting room on the upper level, again only if you can get up/down the few stairs - there is no rail which could make it difficult for some people with mobility issues. Okay - not with all that said - the shop is not huge which means that depending on the size of your wheelchair you might not be able to negotiate the entry way or turn your chair around; however, there is NO DOUBT in my mind that the lovely owner or the two very nice men/staff would be more than willing to move some of the furniture so you could turn around. Now that all of this is out of the way...on to the review of the coffee - since that is the reason I walked into the shop. One I truly liked the idea that everyone is welcome, after all if we are not going to embrace our difference, if we are not going to respectfully agree to disagree and if we are not willing to not think that "we" are better than XXX type of person, then by golly this world is doomed. So, everything you needed to know you learned in kindergarten, share your toys, play nice in the sandbox, say please and thank you, and the kid next to you might turn out to be your boss one day...he/she might remeber if you kicked sand in their face. The coffee - great, excellent, nice roast, Costa Rica was an option for a pour over (ask this is not on the menu), the drip coffee was a blend which also was smooth and had great notes of chocolate and nuts. If you do not think coffee has after notes, very much like wine, they you have been drinking really bad/stale/over processed/sugary coffee. STOP - go drink good coffee, you might find it a challenge at first, keep coming back to Hideaway after a few trips around well developed roasted coffee you will thank the ower!!! In addition to great coffee, the veggie "sammie" was a nice breakfast and kept me well satisfied all day. At the time of my visit they were collecting food to help feed those who simply have an empty pantry. Since I do not live in Winchester, a monetary donation was made. No one should go hungry! Bottom line - drink coffee for a happy life!!! read more

I was craving a mocha so I ordered one and an iced tea for my mom. My mocha is not a mocha it's a latte, if it is a mocha apparently they make theirs with no chocolate and its unsweetened? Unfortunately I was in the car and on my way home before I realized my drink is not what I wanted. My mom likes her ice tea so it wasn't a complete fail but I just paid $4.25 for a 12oz cup of disappointment. read more
