My dad and I have been coming here for 14 years and it has been the highlight of the Christmas season for us. Thank you so much to all of the workers there for many good experiences! So I decided I finally wanted to create my own Griswold family Christmas, LOL. It was a two hour drive or so to this place. What the heck, more time to sing Christmas songs as a family, right? Haha. I've never cut down my own tree. But I'm sick of buying dead trees from the local places here. Here's a clue, if you make a fresh cut on the bottom and put it in the stand with water, it should be suckin up that water. Especially during the first week or so. If it's not suckin up water, its dead and probably been that way for awhile. It will be dropping needles, a fire hazard, and have little to no odor. I gotta tell you, I absolutely loved the experience here from beginning to end. I brought a saw but they provide one if you forget. They have a handful or so of varieties that grow on the property. You just wander around on the acreage and look. All the trees for sale have a price tag. No price tag; not for sale. After you figure out which one you want, you cut it yourself. Then they have carts to lay it on and haul it out. Free popcorn and warm apple cider too! Employees were real friendly from entering the property to buying the tree. I loved exploring the property and not feeling rushed. Really cool! We settled on a 9-10' White Fir for $125. Really loved some of the Blue Spruce Trees but just couldn't justify the price. Check out my pics. Looked at a beautiful one that was $300. I just couldn't justify the money for something that was going to die. On that subject, don't believe the bad press about real trees. The fact is, if you drop them off in the proper place, they are turned into mulch. They are much less harmful to the environment than disposing of an artificial tree. Plus they improve the environment and air quality the whole time they grow. By the way, they also have fresh Noble Firs which is usually what I buy at the tree lots locally. They don't grow on the property but they ship them in. They only grow up north where it is colder. They are kept in 5 gallon buckets to stay fresh so even if you are not cutting down these, they will be fresher cause they are kept in water. In conclusion, I spent a little more than I normally spend for a tree. I would definitely say the experience made it worth the price difference. Plus, we cut down the tree and had it set in the stand with water that night. You won't find fresher if you buy local. They complimentary shake it by machine (to remove critters and loose needles) and optional netting for a small fee. A+. I'll come back next year. BTW. I visited between last week of Nov and first week of Dec. Maybe if you procrastinate, the selection becomes slim pickins?? Not sure, I'm just trying to make sense of some of the negative reviews. First things first...it takes time to find the "one" and the property is huge and not entirely level. Considering how early it gets dark, I recommend coming by like 3pm at the latest to ensure you have plenty of time and daylight. Really amazing selection of hundreds and hundreds of trees to choose from - many different varieties and all shapes and sizes. Some of our favorites weren't ready this year, but we found the most beautiful Blue Spruce here. If you're looking for a traditional hunt and cut kind of experience I highly recommend this place. They also have a small number of pre-cut trees too if that's more your style. The owner and all the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly. The trees are super reasonably priced and they have so many to fit just about any budget, style, and size. We found our gem way back in lot 3, and there were lots more in lot 4. I suggest making the trek back there where not a lot of people go for the best selection. read more

My wife had never cut a tree down herself so we decided to give it a go this year. Thankfully she found this great tree farm in Atascadero. There were a lot of families out having a blast. The staff was really friendly and helpful. They have a large selection of trees to choose from over 10 acres which was great. I'd never had carts at a farm before so that was a nice touch. They shook the tree, which I'd never seen before, and wrapped it up for us. All in all a great experience for everyone. Free cider and popcorn for the kids too. read more

I'm torn. We've been coming here all but one year since we moved to Atascadero in 2011. After this year I don't know if we'll be back. They have a policy where only the tagged trees can be purchased. Now either there were less tagged trees this season or I am having a serious memory lapse on our past experiences. I will be honest that if this were my first trip the rating would be lower, it's only past experiences that are keeping it at 3. First we tried lot 1. In our brief foray we saw about two tagged trees, both of which were massive and would not fit in our home. Next we went across the way to the lot with white firs. After passing the "Seuss Spruce" running $200 and the Blue Fir at $250 we came across a handful of white firs that were tagged and in range. This was after passing many trees I would have loved but weren't for sale. Then it became like the Hunger Games and we were racing for the Cornucopia, battling against all the other families hunting for a tree. We were positioning our children at trees until we could find another one we liked more, for fear of losing out while other families circled like sharks. It felt stressful and strange. They've added a new central barn this year that is absolutely stunning with what looked like pre-cut trees but it wasn't enough to change the vibes this year. Especially once I heard one family talking about leaving for one of the local tree lots and watched people stare at the trees we were standing around. The farm just didn't have the same feel this year. I confirmed we didn't actually pay more this year compared to last and confirmed we visited the same weekend as last year, but we did have a noticeably different pool to choose from. read more

We wanted cut down our own tree. This was the best rated place we found. The staff were amazingly nice and they provided all you needed to get the job done, plus cocoa! We brought our own tools and that was not an issue. Each tree is tagged that can be cut with its price. There were several that we wanted that were not for sale, which was too bad, but we finally found the one we liked. The prices all seemed very good, we got a Douglas Fir for about $90 that was a good 6 feet tall. Seems fair, though they have many other varietals that were much less. I just wanted a Doug Fir as they're my favorite tree for Christmas trees. Everyone was helpful, though the trees were a bit more sparse, they had a decent selection at the end of November, though this looks like a place people come to early to get the best choices. Only tagged trees are for sale, so maybe 1 out of 10 trees you see is actually for sale. Unfortunetly, almost all their trees are less than ideal..tagged or not. I'm not sure if it's because of the drought. They offer pre- cut trees shipped from Oregon and they are by far they best trees on the lot, but that's a huge disappointment for a tree farm and the high cost of pre- cut trees make it a huge turn off. I left without a tree, but the people working their seemed nice. read more

We have been coming to this family tree farm for years. It is one of the highlights for our family. The kids love searching out the perfect tree. The staff and family who owns it are so kind and welcoming. Yes, you will spend more then Home Depot or Lowe's, but the experience for us is priceless and we love supporting local. read more

We had a great time hunting for our Christmas tree last year at the 55 year old farm! Four great lots with a huge tree diversity; we saw trees marked from $5-200 with the majority right around $75. The staff provided a map of the lots with few stops to grab a bow saw, cart, knee pads, etc. After finding and cutting down our tree, the optional shaking and drilling are free with the bail/netting only $3. Cute photo ops with free apple cider and small treats for purchase, family and looked like dog friendly as well. Lots of fun, friendly staff, and good tree selection - we'll be back! read more

We were really excited at the prospect of getting to cut down our own tree- my husband had been saying for years he would love to do it, but living in SoCal, it wasn't an easy task. Now having relocated to central coast I figured I would surprise him. Took him there and walked around the big lots to check out the trees, but any one we thought looked decent was very expensive. Trees that were mostly one large stick with branches were around the amount we spend every year, but trees filled out with green were around $300. We definitely want to eventually buy local and contribute to that farm, but it was far more than what we could afford. Ended up buying a tree at Home Depot for $60 that was full of branches and pine needles. read more

It'd be 5 stars if the old lady wasn't so rude. I made sure to ask 2 different people on the way in if it was okay for me to take some pictures of my daughter and niece, they both said it was okay. Then in the middle of doing so this lady walks up and says we needed to make an appointment and starts questioning me about all sorts of things, took my name down and accused me of doing this before even tho it was my first time even knowing about the place. We were going to come back for a tree but not anymore. But aside from her, it's really pretty and everyone else is super nice and inviting. read more
