I love coming here since I discovered this place. I used to bring my children to holidays show when they were young. It's been years since my last visit. This visit time I had the pleasure of having my husband. He loves photography and this year's spring flowers and garden show is just perfect. I enjoyed each showcases and love looking to those little children dressed up to have a pictorial with the fabulous flowers and plants display. This nursery is the biggest in Long Island. People as far as NYC or even Connecticut come to view its exhibits and its array of beautiful flowers, plants, trees , bushes. The store offers more than living plants. It sells garden accessories, home displays, even apparels and snacks. The popular children workshops easily gets filled so if you are planning to register your child, check their website first or make a pre visit phone call. I started visiting Hicks nursery over 40 years ago. My parents and grandparents brought me there every December to mail a letter to Santa. It used to be an absolutely incredible place. It's still nice but the vibe has changed and it just doesn't feel as 'special' as it used to. Really knowledgeable staff and pretty plants everywhere! They also have a storybook section for anyone to see during certain holidays like Xmas. We came here and purchased a tree and some Christmas decorations. It is on the pricier side of nurseries in my experience, but I also feel like all of LI is the same way. Overall you get quality service and insight here. This place is huge. They have an indoor and outdoor section. It also gets really warm inside; the staff say that they bake in winter and broil in summer. They also have a separate building on the property for picking up large items and landscape design. I remember a long time ago they had a little counter to order hot cocoa from, but I didn't see it this time or maybe no one was operating it. I have the black thumb of death and they helped me select a plant that is easy to maintain and though sometimes it looks like it's dying it's been alive since June or July of 2025! It's really pretty with purple flowers. And that reminds me I should check on it! We moved it to the shed because it got cold outside. Happy shops! Happy shops! read more

The interior green house is always stocked and has an abundance of plants available year round. The staff couldn't be more friendly. I have been coming to Hicks for years mainly for their live plants though I have gotten planters, seeds and other miscellaneous items from there. Their plants always look well taken care of unlike the ones at Home Depot/Lowe's but you do pay a higher price at Hicks. You get what you pay for! They recently renovated the place so it looks beautiful inside and is very clean. They also have annual flower shows which are gorgeous and free to visit! There's also events for holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, Easter but they are an extra fee for certain things. For the past couple of years I've been getting their hanging flower baskets during the summer when they have the BOGO free deal and the baskets are always full and beautiful, lasting me 3-4 months. One year, one of the baskets died off rather quickly and I wasn't sure what happened so I brought it back to Hicks as I had gotten 2 of the same and only one died off. They told me what was wrong with the plant (watering issues on my end) and showed me what to do if it happened again which was very helpful. This most recent trip was because they had a Father's Day BOGO free deal going for their bigger planters but most of them looked very sad and the combo of flowers for each pot wasn't appealing to me. I ended up purchasing a BOGO 50% off deal with their hanging planters. Aside from their bigger planters looking not too great (maybe that's why they were on sale), everything else, especially in their indoor greenhouse had a huge variety and all the plants looked happy. I purchased a Jasmine plant (smells so good!) as well as a Zz plant (had a sale going on!) from that area. I've also gotten air plants from here in the past but for some reason, cannot keep them alive after several months even though they are supposed to be super easy to keep alive. I did speak to someone there regarding it but they were not very helpful. I've gotten air plants from elsewhere that had stayed alive for years and when they wilted, that's when I purchased some from Hicks. I'll keep trying! Approximately 3 years ago, I purchased a bunch of Justin Brouwers Boxwood shrubs for the front of the house. I was specifically looking for little ball shaped shrubs that stayed small and Hicks had them. I believe they have a one year guarantee where if the plant doesn't survive the first year, they'll replace it but don't quote me on that. I had done a ton of research prior and the Hicks staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Today, the shrubs still look beautiful and have gotten slightly bigger as they should! If you have kids with you, there are some children's toys at the checkout line for purchase that are good quality and reasonably priced. Another plus is Hicks is dog friendly but the dog must be leashed and inside the cart or I'd assume a dog stroller. Even if you don't purchase anything, it's so relaxing just to walk amongst the plants! read more

This place is awesome. They have tons of indoor plants. Everything is super organized. They had Christmas decorations out and a whole area dedicated to Christmas. We went specifically for the Halloween walk through and to play outside. The indoor Halloween walk through was very creative and cute. Outside they had golf, ring toss and a bunch of places to take photos. On the weekends for a fee I believe they had pumpkin decorating, hay rides and other activities. This was our first visit to this Nassau nursery (driving from mid-Suffolk). We came to this nursery mid-March for the advertised Flower show, on an early Sunday morning, missing the rush. It's quaint, cute, about a 10-15 minute walk thru at moderate pace. Each section was designed by a different person with a different theme. All beautiful, well planned and thoughtfully pieced together. For a March morning it was chilly but do not fear the display is inside and fairly warm. Still very early in the season most of the plants for sale were for indoors at least for the next month. They had several Easter arrangements for sale as well in a small outdoor section. They have everything and more for your gardening needs, even a repotting stand if you don't quite trust yourself. There are tools, pots, statues, outdoor furniture, bulbs, wind chimes, bird houses, the list goes on and on. We are looking forward to returning later in the season to see the assortment of summer flowers and festivities for a review update. Bring your checkbook or at least Apple Pay, you will spend a pretty penny. read more

It's the time of jollity and festivity - that time immediately following Thanksgiving when Christmas trees and lights, holly and berries, garland and ornaments twinkle upon the many trees both pines and plastics. One day I shall have candles upon the trees arms of my Christmas trees, just like in the Walton's Christmas Special, how do they balance them so safely and snug as the cricket in the hearth? The entitled Long Islanders sipping Starbucks are impatiently waiting in their German engineered suburban SUV sleds making a belt around the entire extended parking lot. I guess they were in a drive up and drive thru line to pick up their Christmas tree that they must have ordered online or by the phone, I took little notice. It's a disturbing site to behold, what a situation to take part in and I'm walking into the store quickly to remove myself from this potentially volatile situation if there's a tree or wreath shortage. I could just see the windows pop as with the Cabbage Patch run of 1984 at Macy's Herald Square, people can turn quickly if they don't get what they want, when they want it and 34th Street will never be the same for me, we need another Miracle on 34th. The prices seem kinda higher than I'd remember from Christmas past on the artificial trees so the fun of window and wall shopping seems to be the plan minus some chatchka ornaments as tree hole fillers we might need. Nearing the thousand dollar level for a seven to eight footer isn't making me merry and Santa has to be slightly pissed too as he observed from his looking glass globe at the prices and rubs his white gloves upon to examine more clearly the pricetags. I guess If the elves built these artificial trees with elvish pixie wood and came home with us to set it all up, decorated and made me gummy muffin treats, candy canes with sweet syrupy toppings and raspberry dressing. I've no idea what it is but that and Figgy Pudding is a Must before the clock strikes midnight on 12/24/2024. If these elves popped out of the Christmas tree box with WARNING: ELVES INCLUDED INSIDE, I'd delight in that Christmas Day morning with all of us together. Dogs and Elves tearing wrapping papers together to reveal what Santa Claus brought them, imagine that. Upon reaching the decorated Christmas tree section, I was feeling the Christmas spirit with a dazzling display of the cherished traditions of green to white to multicolored display trees, one as beautiful as the next. It's all about the uniqueness to your families style, things have changed since I was a boy. The vibrant colors of LED lights reflecting off the garlands layering and large doll ornaments and the glittery ones are the ones I like best, how they reflect the lights and the beauty of the holiday. Stars and angels towards the top compliment the decorations below. We walked outside and immediately the wonderful pine scent of Douglas Fur, Frazier Fur hit us, gosh what a fully encompassing moment that was to behold. My family always has taken the artificial tree route and I always wanted a real one, parents just didn't listen to us kids back then As we continue passage through the leaning shrubbery, lifting and spinning with them like a little dance to locate the prices. Gosh how I love the authenticity of the pine needles and the feel of the bark of the trunk as we twirl together. But their prices were double from what's sold in Queens and the supply was running a bit thin in the time that we were there, (3pm) so we left. read more

We visit Hicks Nursery for their annual Meet Santa event. Children and families can take a picture with Santa for free! They also have a helper on site that will take the photos if all of your attendees want in on the action! Check the website for Santa hours but generally runs until December 23rd, Mon - Friday 1 - 4PM then 5-8 PM and weekends 10 -1PM then 2-6PM. We usually went early in the morning but we've waited an hour on line. A few weeks ago, we decided to go on a Saturday around 6:30 PM and surprisingly, only waited about 20 minutes. A few notes: don't take up upwards of 5 minutes to try and get your perfect shot. There's a long line of children who've been waiting for an hour. Bring your own camera. And most importantly, get a shopping cart and have your little ones sit in there. They are much more willing to wait with a phone or tablet in their hands and an added bonus, you know exactly where they are! They also have a HU-GE selection of real and artificial trees, decor and cute knick knacks. As always, their botanicals and potted plants are super fresh. Definitely not cheap but if you're looking for quality and plan to keep your decorations and plants in pristine condition, they will last a long time. We picked up our 7' artificial tree 3 years ago and it's still shining bright. read more

This is a family friendly event where kids can do a mini scavenger hunt within the huge flower shop, and adults can browse around the store in peace while viewing some exciting new gardening decors. Such a great place to bring the kids during the month of October. They display a whole bunch of pumpkins that are all different sizes and shapes. My kids especially love the scary pumpkins that look like warts are growing all over them in different colors too. They also have Halloween festivity for the kids. Hick's Nurseries is such a holiday gem. I stumbled on this place when I was searching online for Santa photo ops in Queens/Long Island. I went in not knowing what to expect and oh was I impressed. We walked in and was immediately amazed by all of the decorations on display. There's a section with Christmas animatronics, which is a quick walk through. They have a ton of Christmas trees, ornaments and decorations available. When we went, there was a live performance with brass instrument players - playing Christmas music, of course. We stood there watching and listening for a good half an hour. The line for Santa was long but that's because Santa not only takes pics with everyone, but he talks to each and every one of the kids. Nobody is rushed off, and Santa is super patient. The backdrop for the Santa pic is beautiful and best of all , it's free! Families are dressed in their holiday outfits and it's so amazing to see. You just need to bring your own camera. They don't ask for tips or charge anyone. It's really a true definition of Christmas in Hicks Nursery and I'm definitely coming back every holiday. read more

Love love love Hicks Nursery. They have acres of healthy, colorful, fragrant flowers and shrubs. When I lived in New York, I came here annually around Labor Day for their big 75% off sale. It was a great time of year to put a magnolia tree, Dogwood and even wisteria in our garden. My pink and lavender giant climbing hydrangeas filled a wall with huge flowers all summer. I miss the colorful hydrangeas, day lilies & many herbs from New York. Happily, when ever I need to have a gift either a gift certificate or plant from Hicks is perfect. The garden, decorations, furniture, cushions, flags, tableware & tchotchkes are displayed beautifully and are always tempting. In this area is a small food counter with cold drinks, fresh salads, and delicious baked goods. This is one of the largest nurseries that I've visited. What makes I special are the exhibits with mazes during pumpkin season, holiday animated stories during Christmas, and other good eats, ranging from apple cider donuts to pies. It's a great escapade for families with kids to walk, play, and nibble on yummy treats. If you enjoy gardening, there is a wide assortment of horticulture to learn about or buy and grow at home. Well, this is what it looks like two days later. I bought led candy cane's last Christmas and used them for 1 month then packed them up in their boxes and saved them. I put them up this week and 2 of the 3 had led's that are not working. These were not cheap and led's should last for years but when I spoke to a manager they said only a 30 day guarantee. They still sell these and should exchange them I feel. I will no longer shop at Hicks and wouldn't recommend any one else to shop at this store either. Very dissaointed since I have shopped here for many years. I love Hick's Nursery. The place to go to shop for all things plant-related/landscaping/seasonal greens and flowers/garden tools and decor for all year round. This is probably one of the fancier plant nurseries I've shopped in. Not only is the store and parking lot huge, they have enough space to have both indoor and outdoor space to show off everything! I must admit, I'm usually not shopping for the plants and tools. I come here seasonally especially in the Fall and Winter to see the exhibits they have going or for the Holiday stuff. And while perusing, I do get bit by the shopping bug and never leave empty handed. This visit I came for a planter, the water tray to put it under and for ornaments. My favorite exhibit is their Halloween Showcase where you get to see Otto, their adorable friendly ghost mascot, in a series of scenes. He was showcased this year along with some furry friends. Very cute. And FREE!! My kids love coming here too for the annual Hay ride and the Not so scary outdoor decorations. The other reason why you must come here, calling all Christmas/Holiday fanatics. Best tree displays and ornaments throughout the store. They also have a miniature display of a bustling town setting with lights, moving figures and nostalgic winter past times. I grew up in Westbury in the late 1950's/early 60's. I always knew "Hicks" and my folks purchased some things over the years. However it wasn't until a few months ago I actually availed myself of their services. We purchased, with the help of several employees of the Nursery Planting department, a fairly diverse grouping. The delivery was scheduled and 2 weeks later went off without a hitch. "Pepe" and his crew arrived well within the time frame given to us. They were very patient as my wife and I positioned the plantings and were incredibly efficient in the actual installation. It looks even better than we had envisioned.
